THE SETUP
Originally an empty front living room, this space offered a blank canvas for transformation. Alicia’s client — a financial wealth management professional facing a career shift towards more home-based work — was excited to make it her new office. Capitalizing on the space’s abundant natural light, perfect for on-camera meetings, Alicia helped convert the area into a primary workspace.
Design Objectives:
- Create a functional and professional home office
Cultivate an aesthetic that is both comfortable and feminine
- Optimize the office for the space’s ideal lighting and provide an appealing background for virtual meetings
Design Challenges:
- Transforming a large, undefined space into a structured, functional office
- Selecting a color palette that enhances focus and professionalism, balanced with a feminine touch
- Strategically placing the desk to maximize functionality and aesthetics within the large area
Incorporating solutions for effective real-time stock trade tracking and analog task management
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design Solutions:
Workspace Configuration: Centered the desk to utilize indirect light, ideal for video calls, while providing a commanding view of the office, the outdoors and the entrance. A floor-installed power outlet under the desk ensures a clean, cord-free setup.
Aesthetic and Palette: Anchored by a striking wallpaper chosen by the client, Alicia developed a soft, neutral color scheme that complements the room’s black window frames and maintains a feminine touch.
Digital Integration: Included a screen dedicated to monitoring daily stock trends, positioned for easy viewing. The energy efficient monitor doubles as artwork when not in use, seamlessly blending functionality with style.
Organizational Features: Implemented dual large bulletin boards for task and project tracking, integrating them aesthetically with custom cabinetry and interesting, yet subdued, fabric backing.
Our client is thrilled with her new home office, which not only meets her professional needs but also adds comfort and style to her daily work routine. The space is highly functional for both solo work and client appointments, providing a perfect blend of business professionalism and personal comfort. It embodies the essence of a #girlboss, combining a professional atmosphere with feminine elegance, making every workday enjoyable and productive.

A traditional 1926 cottage was transformed into a stunning, contemporary home. The focal point from both inside and out is a 3-story floating wood and stainless staircase, showcased by oversized windows and dramatic lighting. Walnut cabinetry with a distinct stain and natural slab surfaces offset the metals used throughout – Including at the interior and exterior of the fireplace. Reclaimed wood floors pay homage to the industrial area the home is situated in.
In designing this home restrictions set forth by the building department were key. For instance, in order for the project to be considered a remodel the existing 8’ tall perimeter walls had to remain in place. The homeowners desperately wanted 9’ tall ceilings, so with crafty engineering and framing we were able to embellish the existing wall framing to achieve the added height.
Clearstory windows allow much needed light into the spaces and creates the illusion of spaciousness, while maintaining wall areas for key furnishings and artwork. Every inch of space maximizes storage throughout the 2,600 square foot home.
A cabinet for shoe storage immediately inside the front door also serves as a key component at the staircase and provides a platform to highlight sculptural artwork. Unique products and details, such as a metal link shower curtain and custom built-in guest beds with strategically placed outlets and horizontal surfaces to allow for electronics to be close at hand, elevate this home to the next level.

Interior designers often shape a home's exterior as well! For this residence, we maximized curb appeal by designing the siding with compelling color contrasts and rich textures from various materials, giving the house a truly luxurious and high-end feel.

The Challenge
This beautiful waterfront home was begging for an update. Our clients wanted a contemporary design with modern finishes. They craved improved functionality in the kitchen, hardwood flooring in the living areas, and a spacious walk-in closet in the master bathroom. With two children in school, our clients also needed the project completed during their summer vacation – leaving a slim 90 days for the entire remodel. Could we do it? …Challenge accepted!
Our Solution
With their active summer travel schedule, our clients elected to vacate their home for the duration of the project. This was ideal for the intrusive nature of the scope of work.
In preparation, our design team created a project plan to suit our client’s needs. With such a clear timeline, we were able to select and order long-lead items in plenty of time for the project start date.
In the kitchen, we rearranged the layout to provide superior ventilation for the cooktop on the exterior wall. We added two large storage cabinets with glass doors, accented by a sleek mosaic backsplash of glass tile. We also incorporated a large contemporary waterfall island into the room. With seating at one end, the island provides both increased functionality and an eye-catching focal point for the center of the room. On the interior wall of the kitchen, we maximized storage with a wall of built-in cabinetry – complete with pullout pantry cabinets, a double oven, and a large stainless refrigerator.
Our clients wisely chose rich, dark-colored wood flooring to add warmth to the contemporary design. After installing the flooring in the kitchen, we brought it into the main living areas as well. In the great room, we wrapped the existing gas fireplace in a neutral stack stone. The effect of the stone on the media and window wall is breathtaking.
In the master bathroom, we expanded the closet by pushing the wall back into the adjacent pass-through hallway. The new walk-in closet now includes an impressive closet organization system.
Returning to the master bathroom, we removed the single vanity and repositioned the toilet, allowing for a new, curb-less glass shower and a his-and-hers vanity. The entire vanity and shower wall is finished in white 12×24 porcelain tile. The vertical glass mosaic accent band and backlit floating mirrors add to the clean, modern style. To the left of the master bathroom entry, we even added a matching make-up area.
Finally, we installed a number of elegant enhancements in the remaining rooms. The clients chose a bronze metal relief accent wall as well as some colorful finishes and artwork for the entry and hallway.
Exceptional Results
Our clients were simply thrilled with the final product! Not only did they return from their summer vacation to a gorgeous home remodel, but we concluded the project a full week ahead of schedule. As a result, the family was able to move in sooner than planned, giving them plenty of time to acclimate to the renovated space before their kids returned to school. Ultimately, we provided the outstanding results and customer experience that our clients had been searching for.
“We met with many other contractors leading up to signing with Progressive Design Build. When we met Mike, we finally felt safe. We had heard so many horror stories about contractors! Progressive was the best move we could have made. They made our dream house become a reality. Vernon was in charge of our project and everything went better than we expected. Our project was completed earlier than expected, too. Our questions and concerns were dealt with quickly and professionally, the job site was always clean, and all subs were friendly and professional. We had a wonderful experience with Progressive Design Build. We’re so grateful we found them.” – The Mader Family

A beautiful Transitional kitchen design with Traditional elements. A decorative wood hood with tile insert details was incorporated over the range. X mullion stacked upper cabinetry with glass and LED lighting highlights this impressive feature. Magic corner & corner drawers base storage cabinets were used to maximize storage in the base corner locations. Existing drywall vent cover & wire rack closet pantry was removed and cabinet pantries were cleverly used to house vent and allow a storage of narrow items around the vent while full depth storage was accessible by the old closet area. Bar storage drawers were added to the wine cooler area. Fridge & Freezer were enclosed with cabinetry materials and an added narrow pantry for spice storage. Products used were Miralis cabinetry, Fully Integrated Liebherr Fridge & Freezer, LED cabinetry & ceiling lighting, Silestone Altair quartz tops, C-Tech Lucerne Ice White Quartzo sink, Vent a Hood blower and Walker Zanger vintage Oyster backsplashes that added a beautiful flavor to the kitchen. This visionary homeowner found an idyllic property surrounded by gorgeous pastoral views, fertile soil perfect for a Truffle farm, and an easy distance to downtown Corvallis, Oregon. What was not ideal, however, was the existing house. Built in the 1980’s, this ranch had some undesirably unique features that were not at all the style that our client was imagining for her dream farmhouse.
She came to us with the challenge of transforming this dated ranch into a classic southern style farmhouse complete with covered porches and wood burning fireplaces. She had dreams of hosting large parties as well as intimate family gatherings, requiring a modern open concept layout alongside more secluded areas, all while preserving the traditional aesthetic that she desired.
Having lived in a wide variety of homes around the country, there were some features this homeowner knew she wanted to incorporate into this major rebuild. We thoughtfully considered how to include those elements in the design while addressing several structural challenges, remaining within budget, and creating a final product that would be both stunning and practical.
Historic trim work, white oak flooring, and warm white walls provide the ideal backdrop for showcasing her treasured heirloom rugs and artwork. Incorporating numerous windows on every exterior wall possible, we were able to maximize natural light, and access panoramic views of the countryside, while allowing the fresh air to breeze through. Multiple sets of French doors lead onto the expansive front veranda that wraps around the main living room. This deep, full-length porch is an inviting, shady spot to enjoy the outdoors. The combination of these design features provided the framework to capture the vision she had for her home.

The DSA Residential Team designed this 4,000 SF Coastal Contemporary Spec Home. The two-story home was designed with an open concept for the living areas, maximizing the waterfront views and incorporating as much natural light as possible. The home was designed with a circular drive entrance and concrete block / turf courtyard, affording access to the home's two garages. DSA worked within the community's HOA guidelines to accomplish the look and feel the client wanted to achieve for the home. The team provided architectural renderings for the spec home to help with marketing efforts and to help future buyers envision the final product.

Designing a single bathroom to serve the needs of three teenage girls presents a unique challenge, requiring a delicate balance of personal style and exceptional functionality.
Located in Maple Grove, this bathroom was conceived as a durable and stylish solution for a busy family.
Our primary focus was on maximizing storage without sacrificing aesthetics. The design features a beautiful white oak vanity with spacious drawers, complemented by an ingenious triple-mirrored medicine cabinet that provides dedicated storage for each sibling. We further enhanced the space with a custom-built, between-the-studs cabinet, a clever solution for storing shampoo and other essentials.
Aesthetics were equally important. The clean lines of the Taj Mahal quartzite countertop and the natural wood tones create a bright, inviting atmosphere, while a splash of color and texture is added with a beige zellige-style tile backsplash and a fun, floral shower curtain. Within the shower-tub area, a recessed, wall-to-wall niche ensures ample space for everyone’s products.
The result is a shared space that is both organized and elegant. This bathroom proves that with strategic design, even a high-traffic family area can be a beautiful and harmonious sanctuary, built to withstand daily use while providing each occupant with their own dedicated space.

This traditional 4,000 square-foot home is located on a quiet cul de sac in Alamo, California. It served as a family home for San Francisco city professionals, but it was due for a remodel following a change in the lives of the owners. The homeowners are now empty nesters and came to Yoko Oda Interior Design to update their home. Our aim was to create a sophisticated timeless modern environment for this large estate in the San Francisco Bay Area. We were excited to take on the challenge and give the home a new lease of life now their children have grown up and left home.
Our sophisticated clients were drawn to traditional architectural details, global influences (i.e., Yoko’s Japanese modern aesthetics), contemporary clean lines, and neutral sophisticated color palettes. We have incorporated these interior design elements throughout the home, helping to maximize the space and features available to them while creating a more adult-friendly space to live. Neutral colors allow our clients to continue adding to the home in the future without committing to any colors that they may get tired of after some time. They are a classy option to add to any space and act as the backdrop for any artwork or home accessories that may be added later on.
Yoko’s design inspiration came from the clients’ personalities and the color palettes in their wardrobe. Our wardrobes say so much about us, and it’s a great way to learn more about the clients we are working with. A home needs to reflect the personalities of those living there, giving them a space to come back and relax in Alamo after a busy day.
We utilized the architectural features in their home such as a 22’ high ceiling, the large windows with natural light and the beautiful gardens outside. We incorporated each of these elements in an intentional way, with the goal of creating a home that was distinctive, layered and that felt collected over time. Yoko created a calm, global, understated city vibe in this family home, which is something that can be a challenge to cultivate in the San Francisco Bay Area. We hope the family will enjoy many more years of living in this beautiful property during this new stage in their lives.
Make sure you check out the other remodel projects we’ve completed on our site, to give you more inspiration for how we could help transform your home in the future.

Our Client in Northville, MI had an existing raised patio that did not have much usable space. After renovating the lower level they contracted Landforms Inc to continue the transformation outside. They wanted to remove the old patio with wooden railings and a cramped seating area. Then create a outdoor kitchen with a prep area, gas grill, Big Green Egg smoker, fireplace with ample seating and dining space. By pushing the patio out to the edge of the wall and incorporating a seating wall both for safety and seating. We were able to maximize our usable space for the kitchen and entertaining. Now the space now feels like you are dining in the tree tops.

The Home
A family heirloom full of warm memories passed down for generations to come greets you after opening the beautiful knotty alder front
door. The rear staircase and separate back entrance allows for multi-generations to share this home.
The Eagles Nest is a place for all to land. The five bedroom, four bath mountain modern plan offers several areas for relaxing and
entertaining. Upon entering, you are welcomed by the warmth of the beams, hickory floors and inviting fireplace. The overall environment gently whispers, “come in, sit down and relax”. The back staircase off the kitchen leads you to a private oasis. The lower level is designed to serve two purposes. It can be a separate living quarter because of its private entrance, or an extension of the house for entertaining.
The open floor plan maximizes square footage for all to enjoy and partake, or for one to find their own quiet space.

The Interior Design
Inspired by nature’s palette and a touch of modern, the Eagles Nest is a calm haven of earth tones and casual elegance. The interior is an inviting blend of subtle neutrals and pops of color, combined with metals, textures, and fine finishes, creating a transitional rustic design. Entertain guests in the large downstairs rec room with a glass of wine at the built-in bar, or take on an opponent with a game of foosball.
The homeowners joined forces with Caprice King at Upstage Furniture Consignments to paint the pallet of the home. Caprice King staged the home with additional furnishings and accessories, lending the home a designer’s touch while utilizing her spatial expertise and attention to detail.

This recently completed outdoor living space was created for a really great family in Chatham. Their original backyard design included a deck surrounded by mulch planting beds. We demolished all original elements and constructed an all bluestone patio that ran the entire width of their home. This made it possible to double their usable space. We used uniformly sized all blue bluestone tiles. We built them an outdoor kitchen and bar - complete with grill, shelving, built-in trash can and refrigerator. Pearl Blue quartz was used for the counter top and we rounded the bar side in order to maximize sitting space. The perimeter of the patio received a 20" high sitting wall with a 2" thick bluestone tread cap. LED strip lighting was installed below the wall cap to provide accent lighting at night. At the yard entrance, we built (2) raised piers complete with centered light fixtures on top. The custom gas-start/wood-burn fireplace really sets this patio apart from most. By curving the hearth and hollowing out the interior, we were able to create a wood log storage area without sacrificing any of their usable space on the sides. The gas dial is concealed on the side of the fireplace and is operated by key. Throughout the entire patio you will see cultured stone siding that provides the perfect blend of continuity and complimentary colors. This project was a huge success and the client is very happy with the finished product. We couldn't have asked to work for better people.
