Butler Developments worked as a general contractor on this two story custom home in Pinetop, AZ. Coordinating project managers for design and multiple specialists we built the home from start to finish to the owner's specifications.
The exterior design consists of a combination of masonry on the lower level and shingle siding on the second level. The modern rustic look matches the natural materials and colors used in the support beams, the brick driveway, natural wood doors and shutters, and abundant trees on the lot.
Here we revisit the entry. At this point in the project, we stained the upper beams to brighten the home while matching the darker color of the eaves. With more sunlight, you can see how the different materials blend together in a natural way.
Note the decorative and functional rain chain at the end of the gutter. The chain adds a unique look to the home while removing water from the roof and allowing underground dispersal without annoying puddles.

Prairie school architects are heralded today for their genius use of wood and detailing to frame and define organic style. The Design-Craft Sonoma Reversed Raised Panel kitchen pays homage to those architects with its unusual soffit treatment and use of wood panels. Not one to take itself too seriously, Sonoma finds whimsy in the shaped support legs of the smart L-shaped island. Multiple work surface heights on the island make room for more than one cook in this traditional kitchen.
Discover more functionality with matching wood tops or shelves to keep frequently used items easily within reach. A modern flat panel television over the simple hearth of a kitchen fireplace is a smart way to bring warmth and today’s living style to a classic bungalow or prairie style home.

"Let There Be Light" is a complete re-imagining of a 1920's Tudor-style mansion, that garnered multiple Georgie and Ovation awards, and earned Versa Homes a trophy for Best Renovated Room of 2017.
The existing estate had a dark and sombre feel. The young couple and their three children wanted a bright, liveable, kid-friendly home with modern amenities, while preserving the traditional beauty and grandeur of the house.
A 3,000 square-foot unfinished basement was transformed into a wonderland of home entertainment, with a home theatre, indoor hockey rink, gymnasium, arts and crafts room, billiards room, bar and seating for dozens of guests.
Felipe and the Versa team worked closely with the family to select finishes and materials that were "just right". Every room is endowed with a unique motif. The finished renovation combines classic stylings with modern chic, and rustic "New York Loft" elements, in a playful ensemble that is a true expression of the personalities in the household.

This Parkville, MO basement remodel transforms an unfinished lower level into a clean, modern space designed to support everyday living and grow with the family.
Guided by a simple and intentional aesthetic, the layout was designed to create distinct yet connected zones within an open-concept plan. A dedicated media area accommodates multiple screens, while adjacent spaces provide room for active play and a functional workout zone with space for weights and equipment.
A wet bar positioned just off the main living area adds convenience for entertaining without interrupting the flow of the space. Throughout the design, durability and organization were prioritized to ensure the basement functions effortlessly for daily use.
Even the bathroom was treated as a design opportunity, incorporating a unique feature that brings personality and character to the lower level.
The result is a bright, flexible extension of the home that feels cohesive, highly functional, and built to evolve with the family over time.

The island divides the kitchen into two distinct work spaces. All the storage on the side with the gas cooktop has the essentials for cooking and food prep. The storage on the side with the wall oven has everything needed for baking. Ample space around the island supports good flow and prep space for multiple cooks. Vern Uytake, photographer. As dusk sets in, soft uplighting and warm interior glow transform this one-story pool house into a serene nighttime retreat. The rectangular pool anchors the backyard layout, surrounded by smooth pavers and illuminated from within by LED lighting that casts a cool blue reflection against the minimalist stucco façade.
Symmetrical glass doors and windows form a balanced rear elevation, offering unobstructed views into multiple lounge, dining, and living zones. At the center, a recessed patio with ceiling fans provides a covered outdoor lounge area ideal for al fresco evenings. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor environments supports true resort-style living.
Perimeter landscaping is kept low and open, allowing the architectural lines and poolside symmetry to dominate the visual field. This modern pool house design blends functionality with aesthetic clarity—perfect for entertaining, relaxing, or vacation-style living year-round.

Wide sweeping windows up to 13’ and full-lite doors were installed throughout the home preserving the unobstructed views from the home. Additionally, four 12’ wide Lift and Slide doors were installed in the living room and dining room. Increased natural light, fewer framing members, and the ability to open the door wide for indoor/outdoor living are just a few of the benefits of such large sliding doors. The rear of the home takes full advantage of the expansive marine landscape with full height windows and doors.
Glo A5h and A5s Series were selected with concealed hinges. The Glo A5h, hidden sash, ensures that operational windows share the same profile thickness as fixed units. A uniform and cohesive look adds simplicity to the overall aesthetic, supporting the minimalist design. The A5s is Glo’s slimmest profile, allowing for more glass, less frame, and wider sight lines. The concealed hinge creates a clean interior look while also providing a more energy efficient air-tight window. The increased performance is also seen in the triple pane glazing used in both series. The windows and doors alike provide a larger continuous thermal break, multiple air seals, high performance spacers, low-e glass, and argon filled glazing, with U-values as low as 0.20. Energy efficiency and effortless minimalism creates a breathtaking Scandinavian-style remodel.

This kitchen was thoughtfully planned to support both efficiency and ease, with clearly defined zones for cooking, prep, and gathering. The layout allows multiple people to work comfortably at the same time, making the space equally suited for quiet mornings and large gatherings.
Open sightlines connect the kitchen to the dining and living areas, while the adjacent working pantry provides additional storage and prep space without crowding the main kitchen. Custom cabinetry, integrated appliances, and durable finishes create a calm, organized environment that feels intentional rather than busy.
Designed around how the homeowners live day to day, this kitchen reflects a balance of practicality and timeless design — a space built to serve the home well over time.

Elevate your wine cellar to new heights!

This beam was added to frame the kitchen and compliment the wood detail that covers the vent hood while adding some warmth in color to the white cabinets. Additional space was captured when we removed the table that was positioned on the window wall. We now have space for more base cabinets and a wine fridge. The window above opens out to the patio, convenient for passing food while entertaining guests outside.

Welcome to a newly built home in Redwood City, crafted from the ground up with over 25 years of skilled construction expertise. Original home was demolished. Every detail was thoughtfully designed to meet city standards, limitations, and requirements—resulting in a residence that feels light, crisp, and deeply connected to nature. Wood floors run throughout the home, creating warmth and continuity from the moment you step inside.
*Entry & Living Spaces*
As you enter through the clean, modern 8-foot door—perfectly aligned with the 9-foot ceiling—you’re greeted by a bright, open feel. The living room centers around a custom fireplace clad in artistic tile, paired with a built-in TV stand. Directly across, double sliding doors invite natural light and seamless indoor-outdoor living. The entire home enjoys a ceiling of 9' with a combination of vaulted ceiling in the primary bedroom.
*Kitchen – The Heart of the Home*
The kitchen is the true centerpiece. Designed with an open concept and surrounded by generous windows, it features quartz on both the countertops and full-height walls for a luxurious, cohesive aesthetic. A large island—topped with a full slab of quartz—anchors the room, offering extra space between the island and main counters for comfortable movement and entertainment. Two elegant clear pendant lights highlight its presence. Outfitted with top-tier luxury appliances designed for both performance and visual refinement.
White cabinetry keeps the look clean and minimalist, while oversized drawers provide functional storage for cooking utensils. The induction cooktop, paired with a pot filler, reinforces the modern and streamlined design. A double oven and an almost-hidden pantry maintain the sleek look, keeping the focus on the kitchen’s architecture and flow.
Mudroom & Dining Area Adjacent to the kitchen is a mudroom with a charming barn door leading toward the garage. A half-wall accent features eccentric black-and-white tile, complemented by bold black fixtures. A small custom hidden closet maximizes storage while maintaining a refined appearance.
The dining room, open and airy, continues the wood flooring and is adorned with stylish pendant lighting—perfect for gatherings and everyday meals. The wide, open staircase is fully exposed to the dining area and first floor, creating a striking architectural feature that visually connects the spaces. Its modern wood-and-metal design contributes to the home’s open flow while serving as a sculptural centerpiece within the main living level.
*Bedrooms & Laundry*
Guest and secondary bedrooms are bright and inviting, each with multiple windows framed in sleek black for a modern edge. Every bedroom enjoys its own bathroom, offering comfort and privacy. A compact but well-designed laundry room includes a sink and drying rack, making smart use of space.
The second story features an open layout with wide hallways, enhancing the sense of space and natural flow. This home also includes an office and one of the bedrooms is used for a workout space.
*Primary Suite*
Set apart from the other bedrooms for privacy, the primary suite is a luxurious retreat. An accent wall adds character, while a large walk-in closet offers abundant storage. A skylight fills the room with natural light, enhancing the open, breathable atmosphere.
*Bathrooms*
Each bathroom was thoughtfully designed with its own personality:
- Primary bathroom: The primary bathroom embraces a concrete-inspired look, featuring dual sinks and a spacious shower with double-sided niches—one for each person. An LED makeup mirror adds functional elegance.
- Second bathroom: Gray cabinet, tile wall, black fixtures, frameless shower door, and a striking floral tile accent.
- Third bathroom: White cabinets, gold fixtures, white tile floors, a shower stall, and a bold green tile feature wall with a large niche.
- Fourth bathroom: Blue cabinet, gray tile floors, a tub with frameless shower door, and gray wall tiles paired with sleek chrome fixtures.
- Powder Room: Half wall crown molding with black tile design and fixtures.
*Exterior & Landscape*
The planning process also emphasized low-maintenance landscape design, using easy-care plants that enhance the home’s natural feel without demanding constant upkeep. The home is also equipped with a dedicated EV charging station and solar panels, supporting energy efficiency and modern sustainable living.

For years, this family felt like their main floor was working against them. The kitchen was a tight galley where only one person could comfortably stand at a time. An old addition felt disconnected and awkward, making everyday life a struggle.
Rethinking the Space
They thought the only solution was a big, expensive addition. But after walking through the home and completing a feasibility study, we found that the square footage was already there. It just needed a smarter plan.
Designing a Floor That Works
We reimagined how the home works day to day. The kitchen became a bright, open hub with a generous island perfect for cooking, homework, and family time. Awkward corners were given clear and useful purposes. A long steel span replaced an exterior wall that could not carry the load, opening the space safely and effectively.
Personal Touches
We made sure the house reflected the family. A custom basement door with a built-in cat door adds charm and function, and cat-shaped handles in the laundry room bring personality throughout the home. Even the piano room feels warm, inviting, and easy to live in.
A Home That Flows
Now, multiple people can cook together comfortably. The rooms feel connected and welcoming. The previously awkward addition feels fully integrated. Daily life flows naturally, and the house finally supports the family instead of working against them.

Our long-time clients wanted a bit of outdoor entertainment space at their Boston penthouse, and while there were some challenges due to location and footprint, we agreed to help. The views are amazing as this space overlooks the harbor and Boston’s bustling Seaport below. With Logan Airport just on the other side of the Boston Harbor, the arriving jets are a mesmerizing site as their lights line up in preparation to land.
The entire space we had to work with is less than 10 feet wide and 45 feet long (think bowling-alley-lane dimensions), so we worked extremely hard to get as much programmable space as possible without forcing any of the areas. The gathering spots are delineated by granite and IPE wood floor tiles supported on a custom pedestal system designed to protect the rubber roof below.
The gas grill and wine fridge are installed within a custom-built IPE cabinet topped by jet-mist granite countertops. This countertop extends to a slightly-raised bar area for the ultimate view beyond and terminates as a waterfall of granite meets the same jet-mist floor tiles… custom-cut and honed to match, of course.
Moving along the length of the space, the floor transitions from granite to wood, and is framed by sculptural containers and plants. Low-voltage lighting warms the space and creates a striking display that harmonizes with the city lights below. Once again, the floor transitions, this time back to granite in the seating area consisting of two counter-height chairs.
"This purposeful back-and-forth of the floor really helps define the space and our furniture choices create these niches that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.” - Russell
The terrace concludes with a large trough planter filled with ornamental grasses in the summer months and a seasonal holiday arrangements throughout the winter. An ‘L’-shaped couch offers a spot for multiple guests to relax and take in the sounds of a custom sound system — all hidden and out of sight — which adds to the magical feel of this ultimate night spot.
