We call this the "quiet room." A place to simply lounge and look out at the lake, watch TV, work a little at the built-in desks, or maybe just take a nap on the very comfy sofa. Rustic framing on the mirrors and a cowhide rug certainly feel like Texas lake décor, but, soft blue and grey leathers studded with brass nail details make this room as current as can be.

The room is designed with the palette of a Conch shell in mind. Pale pink silk-look wallpaper lines the walls, while a Florentine inspired watercolor mural adorns the ceiling and backsplash of the custom built bookcases.
A French caned daybed centers the room-- a place to relax and take an afternoon nap, while a silk velvet clad chaise is ideal for reading.
Books of natural wonders adorn the lacquered oak table in the corner. A vintage mirror coffee table reflects the light. Shagreen end tables add a bit of texture befitting the coastal atmosphere.

Bursting with comfort and style, the Annaliese Sofa in Blue is the statement piece you have been searching for. We used solid wood and carved it into a sexy low-lying base. The two angled legs add a posh distinction to its overall profile. Overstuffed cushions and armrests create a relaxing environment for a nap, and chic tufting lends to the mid-century aesthetic. The turquoise blue fabric hugs every curve, mimicking the pristine Caribbean Sea.

Embracing the challenge of grounding this open, light-filled space, our Boulder studio focused on comfort, ease, and high design. The built-in lounge is flanked by storage cabinets for puzzles and games for this client who loves having people over. The high-back Living Divani sofa is paired with U-Turn Benson chairs and a "Rabari" rug from Nanimarquina for casual gatherings. The throw pillows are a perfect mix of Norwegian tapestry fabric and contemporary patterns. In the child's bedroom, we added an organically shaped Vitra Living Tower, which also provides a cozy reading niche. Bold Marimekko fabric colorfully complements more traditional detailing and creates a contrast between old and new. We loved collaborating with our client on an eclectic bedroom, where everything is collected and combined in a way that allows distinctive pieces to work together. A custom walnut bed supports the owner's tatami mattress. Vintage rugs ground the space and pair well with a vintage Scandinavian chair and dresser.
Combining unexpected objects is one of our favorite ways to add liveliness and personality to a space. In the little guest bedroom, our client (a creative and passionate collector) was the inspiration behind an energetic and eclectic mix. Similarly, turning one of our client's favorite old sweaters into pillow covers and popping a Native American rug on the wall helped pull the space together. Slightly eclectic and invitingly cozy, the twin guestroom beckons for settling in to read, nap or daydream. A vintage poster from Omnibus Gallery in Aspen and an antique nightstand add period whimsy.

The master bathroom tub is the sculptural focal point of the space. Radiant floors throughout the house ensure a comfortable surface for bare feet, even in winter.

This tranquil Seattle home sits high on a hill with a lovely view in the Queen Anne neighborhood. The delightful family of four needed help filling the living spaces with furnishings that would be cozy, comfortable and work beautifully with the classic aesthetic of the home. Together we choose swivel chairs to maximize both conversation and the view, a nap worthy sofa in a lovely shade of blue and a cocktail table that is easy to move when the kids need an open space but also serves as an excellent place to play games and build puzzles. A soft and colorful rug, bold patterned drapery and a splash of accessories and accent furnishings were layered in to complete the room. The powder room received a rich new paint color to highlight some beloved family artwork and a decorative ladder was installed to add visual interest and provide a much-needed storage place for hand towels. The entry was lacking storage which we remedied with custom designed and built shoe storage benches. An easy to care for indoor/outdoor rug was added to protect the floor and provide a layer of texture to the room. The new cozy space now serves in function when entering the home plus is a great curl up place to enjoy the view while reading a good book!

These clients wanted to connect their
new kitchen bump out to the outdoors
via a sheltered area that would block
bugs and rain but not the view of the
lake below. The NARI member
contractor exceeded those goals with a
design that actually makes the lake
appear closer and seamlessly integrates
indoors and out. It even expanded cool
weather use with strategically placed
heaters and a large fire table. The
project features an operable pergola
with motorized screen walls and
architectural columns over a bluestone
patio.
The client says it’s a lovely place for
open-air naps. “With the wall of Loewen
doors open and the pergola screens
down, our house has never been so
open. We love the design and the final
product. We definitely would hire the
company again and recommend
After Before them,” she said.
