This client loves to entertain and wanted lots of space for people to gather. The back yard backs up to several large Redwood trees and she loves to hike in the Redwood forests so she wanted her yard to be rustic, woodsy, full of native plants, trees, birds, and butterflies. She enjoyed our field trip to the rock store to choose these large boulders some of which double as seats around the fire pit. People siting at this fire pit area are situated perfectly to enjoy the stream we built with several lit-up waterfalls.

We were able to retain most all of the large trees on this urban infill lot in Bellingham. Note the xeriscaping... no lawn and native plants. Even the grounds are very low maintenance! All doors windows have Solid Heart Matai frames and Architrave. We sourced and Milled this offsite, kiln dried and machined to suit. Quite hard to get long lengths in Matai, due to Govt restrictions in Logging Native. Older matai trees are found in most central North Island podocarp forests, lying under the undergrowth of the forest floor. Sap wood was well eaten by Huhu Grubs, leaving the fine grain Heart wood. Durability of Matai : The in-ground durability (though once thought to be as good as totara) is only 5-10 years, and is not suitable for posts and piles. It is suitable for exterior purposes such as sills and doors, with an equivalent Hazard class of H3.1

A terrace level should be as inviting as possibly. This rustic elegant terrace level showcases Hickory leather sofas with barnwood sides. The coffee table is a one of a kind cedar stump with a Native American rug. Vietri pottery accents the color in the area as well as the elk sitting on the coffee table. Did you notice the beautiful leather pillows that were scattered around the room!

An angled view of the terrace level. As you come down the stairs you see comfort and rustic style. The room is complimented with leather, hickory, pottery, and barnwood. The view on the porch features cast aluminum bar stools and a sitting area. The mantle is a cedar log with lots of character. And, of course, the game table in the right corner is a special place for guests to gather. This table also turns over to be a dining room table.
