Bedroom - craftsman bedroom idea in Atlanta

Bradley Beach Residence | Situated on a corner lot in the seaside town of Bradley Beach, NJ. Our client wanted to update this 1930’s beach bungalow without losing its coastal charm. The design strategy was to strengthen the connection between interior & exterior spaces. In order to re-orient the internal organization, the main entry was relocated from the north to the east side of the house. On the north façade a new two level porch was added keeping the massing of the house in concert with the neighborhood fabric and provided views to the Atlantic Ocean from the Master Suite. Past renovations and additions caused a fragmented floor plan with no connection the backyard. By removing a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor we were able to enlarge the kitchen while creating a visual connection to the new pool area and backyard. The addition of a butler panty walk-thru acts as a transition between the informal kitchen and the new entry foyer. The interior design, material selections and articulations lend color & texture to the once bland palette. Every finishing detail unifies the coastal location, existing charm, & eclectic style of our client, resulting in a vibrant yet intimate space.

This over 100 year old home has some great features that the homeowner wanted to keep and improve on to keep the feel of the 1899 home, but still modernize it to today's comforts. A 600 square foot addition was added to the back of the home, enlarging the kitchen and master suite. Engineered hardwood floors were added throughout the home, distressed and custom colored stained beams were added to this period home. The stairs were completely redone with wood and white painted accents. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an open study. The soft patterned carpet is throughout the upper level and compliments the neutral tones in the home. A metal chandelier hangs over the stairs to add more light.

This timber column porch replaced a small portico. It features a 7.5' x 24' premium quality pressure treated porch floor. Porch beam wraps, fascia, trim are all cedar. A shed-style, standing seam metal roof is featured in a burnished slate color. The porch also includes a ceiling fan and recessed lighting.

Kitchen Deck Upper level deck off of the kitchen has easy access to the back yard. Cable railing allows for maximum visual access from each direction. Below the deck access is available to a large storage area below the house. Rear Additions The rear of the house was extended roughly 16 feet toward the back property line at the kitchen and even more at the master suite--and thus greatly enlarged the home's square footage. All of this was done, however, with attention to maintaining the scale of the house relative to its original design, to the site and to its neighborhood context. The porches, deck, stair access points and openings at the rear of the house tie the house and back yard together in a strong way, as was hoped for by the homeowners.
