THE PROBLEM Our client came to use with a kitchen that was outdated, didn't flow well or use space efficiently and wasn't offering the best views of their bucolic backyard. Their stately colonial home in a beautiful West Newbury neighborhood was in need of an overhaul. THE SOLUTION The primary focus was creating a more open and accessible L-shaped layout with oversized island and seating for 4-5 people. The appliances were relocated to optimal placements and allowed for a full 48" range, double ovens, appliances cabinetry with hidden microwave, in-island beverage center as well as dishwasher. We were even able to supplement the walk-in pantry with a free standing pantry for additional storage. In addition to a kitchen that performed better, we also increased the amount of natural light in the space with a larger window and through use of materials and paint, such as updating the trim to white, which reflects the light throughout the space. Rather than replace the hardwood floors, we simply refinished the existing oak floors.

A golf course view in the Brandywine Country Club was what these homeowners were hoping for in their new sunroom by PPASR. This gable style room features two large picture windows on the front wall allowing optimal viewing to the beautiful green outside. The colors of the room and the use of siding material helps this room look like the perfect addition to this home. Inside the roof features a ceiling finished with wooden planks and also plenty of room to relax after a long day.

Our NYC studio designed this gorgeous condo for a family of four with the goal of maximizing space in a modest amount of square footage. A custom sectional in the living room was created to accommodate the family without feeling overcrowded, while the son's bedroom features a custom Murphy bed to optimize space during the day. To fulfill the daughter's wish for fairy lighting, an entire wall of them was installed behind her bed, casting a beautiful glow at night. In the kitchen, we added plenty of cabinets below the island for maximum efficiency. Storage units were incorporated in the bedroom and living room to house the TV and showcase decorative items. Additionally, the tub in the powder room was removed to create an additional closet for much-needed storage space.

Judy & Wendy had plans to renovate their narrow master bathroom for optimal space utilization and improved functionality. They envisioned incorporating various features to elevate the overall design. They sought to create a space that reflected their style yet met their practical requirements. With the help of our designer, they were able to select the perfect items to bring their vision to life. They opted to keep the layout, but a custom shower was built and a free-standing soaking tub were added and completed with a Delta Trinsic tub filler and shower fixtures. The walls around the tub were tiled with Reside Brown Matte Porcelain tile, while the entire floor was finished with City Life Beige Porcelain tile. The new shower that has a stylish combination of Reside Brown Matte Porcelain and Cemento Rasato Bianco Porcelain tiles on the wall. The shower walls were complimented with Moroccan Habitat Moroccan Mix Ceramic tile accent in the wall niche.

For this project, we were brought in by a newly retired couple to create more of a social space between the dining room, living room, and kitchen of a split-level home. Previously the space was chopped up into three small spaces so we removed the L-shaped wall which was dividing the spaces while incorporating the structural post in the kitchen into the redesign. The new space flows much better and creates the open feeling perfect for their lifestyle. Additionally, we renovated and optimized the smaller footprint of the master bathroom. We did this by removing the bathtub and putting in a larger walk-in shower while also installing a linen cabinet for greater organization. For many, the idea of downsizing can be daunting, especially when moving from a spacious rural home to a compact condo. However, our clients were determined to embrace this change to simplify their lives and indulge in waterfront living. With panoramic views of Lake Nepahwin, they were eager to create a retreat maximizing space without compromising style. To optimize space, we adopted a minimalist approach, focusing on multifunctional furniture and clever storage solutions. By strategically placing furniture and incorporating a pantry, disguised as an built-in armoire in the living room, we were able to make the most of every square inch while maximizing the expanse. “Every inch of real estate is valued,” says Lauren Perry “and that is how downsizing becomes a delight.” The original pantry was excessive for the couple, but the primary bedroom was lacking closet space. Enter demolition. We opened a bathroom wall and converted the existing pantry into a walk-in closet for our client’s impressive wardrobe. Prioritizing the built-ins with plenty of drawers customized this space for our client’s personal needs and showcased her impeccable taste in clothes, shoes, and accessories. Every selection had to be carefully considered so the space is inviting, without feeling congested. The fixtures and decor were curated to layer interest, but not detract from the beautiful views of the condo, a delicate balance best left to the professionals.

The Book Club uses a variety of materials and creatively utilizes space to transform a small backyard into an urban oasis. A low concrete wall forms a lounge space with a cantilevered IPE bench and fire pit. Large-format concrete pavers connect the lounge area to a dining and BBQ space, protected from the elements by an overhead louvered roof. The use of synthetic turf, along with native and adapted plant materials, makes this space the low-maintenance, private getaway our client was seeking.

Bright and roomy, the floor plan includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a large vaulted great room, a second story loft with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, a first floor master suite, and a flexible “away room”. Every square inch of this home was optimized in the design stage for flexible spaces with convenient traffic flow, and excellent storage - all within a modest footprint. The generous covered outdoor areas extend the living spaces year-round and provide geometric grace to a classic gable roof.

This beautiful first floor full guest bath offers this homeowner a great choice of early morning options! The fantastic tiled bath/shower is modern, sleek and has a huge room feel since the color scheme is ever light. By optimizing the space's layout, ever wish list item was covered. Warm and efficient. This is a great example of how an old home can be fresh and new.

For this project, our homeowners’ bathroom was dark and gloomy – builders-grade that was no fun to use. Small, dark shower, old oak vanities, drop in tub with tile surround. She desired to have a bath with a spa feel, so taking baths and showers and preparing for the day would be more enjoyable. EKB Home redesigned the layout to include a curbless, walk in shower with body sprays, wand, rain head, and fixtures (in matte black) for optimal shower enjoyment. We then designed and placed this free standing bathtub with bottle shelf behind and focal light fixture above. Our custom floating vanities – with integrated lighting – were then built and installed and include several pull-out elements for enhanced storage and function. We then selected this mosaic tile for behind the new mirrors and sconces, along with the large format tiles for the floor. A complete transformation that thrills our homeowner. As happens with a majority of our remodels, our client hired us 2 years later to have us remodel her kitchen, laundry, pantry, two guest baths, dining room, and bar!

This storm grey kitchen on Cape Cod was designed by Gail of White Wood Kitchens. The cabinets are all plywood with soft close hinges made by UltraCraft Cabinetry. The doors are a Lauderdale style constructed from Red Birch with a Storm Grey stained finish. The island countertop is a Fantasy Brown granite while the perimeter of the kitchen is an Absolute Black Leathered. The wet bar has a Thunder Grey Silestone countertop. The island features shelves for cookbooks and there are many unique storage features in the kitchen and the wet bar to optimize the space and functionality of the kitchen.
