The kitchen features cabinets from Grabill Cabinets in their frameless “Mode” door style in a “Blanco” matte finish. The kitchen island back, coffee bar and floating shelves are also from Grabill Cabinets on Walnut in their “Allspice” finish. The stunning countertops and full slab backsplash are Brittanica quartz from Cambria. The Miele built-in coffee system, steam oven, wall oven, warming drawer, gas range, paneled built-in refrigerator and paneled dishwasher perfectly complement the clean lines of the cabinetry. Full kitchen remodel. Main goal = open the space (removed overhead wooden structure). New configuration, cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, panel-ready appliances (GE Monogram), farmhouse sink, faucet, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, track and sconce lighting, paint, bar stools, accessories.

When my client had to move from her company office to work at home, she set up in the dining room. Despite her best efforts, this was not the long-term solution she was looking for. My client realized she needed a dedicated space not on the main floor of the home. On one hand, having your office space right next to the kitchen is handy. On the other hand, it made separating work and home life was not that easy. The house was a ranch. In essence, the basement would run entire length of the home. As we came down the steps, we entered a time capsule. The house was built in the 1950’s. The walls were covered with original knotty pine paneling. There was a wood burning fireplace and considering this was a basement, high ceilings. In addition, there was everything her family could not store at their own homes. As we wound though the space, I though “wow this has potential”, Eventually, after walking through the laundry room we came to a small nicely lit room. This would be the office. My client looked at me and asked what I thought. Undoubtedly, I said, this can be a great workspace, but do you really want to walk through this basement and laundry to get here? Without reservation, my client said where do we start? Once the design was in place, we started the renovation. The knotty pine paneling had to go. Specifically, to add some insulation and control the dampness and humidity. The laundry room wall was relocated to create a hallway to the office. At the far end of the room, we designated a workout zone. Weights, mats, exercise bike and television are at the ready for morning or afternoon workouts. The space can be concealed by a folding screen for party time. Doors to an old closet under the stairs were relocated to the workout area for hidden storage. Now we had nice wall for a beautiful console and mirror for storage and serving during parties. In order to add architectural details, we covered the old ugly support columns with simple recessed millwork panels. This detail created a visual division between the bar area and the seating area in front of the fireplace. The old red brick on the fireplace surround was replaced with stack stone. A mantle was made from reclaimed wood. Additional reclaimed wood floating shelves left and right of the fireplace provides decorative display while maintaining a rustic element balancing the copper end table and leather swivel rocker. We found an amazing rug which tied all of the colors together further defining the gathering space. Russet and burnt orange became the accent color unifying each space. With a bit of whimsy, a rather unusual light fixture which looks like roots from a tree growing through the ceiling is a conversation piece. The office space is quite and removed from the main part of the basement. There is a desk large enough for multiple screens, a small bookcase holding office supplies and a comfortable chair for conference calls. Because working from home requires many online meetings, we added a shiplap wall painted in Hale Navy to contrast with the orange fabric on the chair. We finished the décor with a painting from my client’s father. This is the background online visitors will see. The last and best part of the renovation is the beautiful bar. My client is an avid collector of wine. She already had the EuroCave refrigerator, so I incorporated it into the design. The cabinets are painted Temptation Grey from Benjamin Moore. The counter tops are my favorite hard working quartzite Brown Fantasy. The backsplash is a combination of rustic wood and old tin ceiling like porcelain tiles. Together with the textures of the reclaimed wood and hide poofs balanced against the smooth finish of the cabinets, we created a comfortable luxury for relaxing. There is ample storage for bottles, cans, glasses, and anything else you can think of for a great party. In addition to the wine storage, we incorporated a beverage refrigerator, an ice maker, and a sink. Floating shelves with integrated lighting illuminate the back bar. The raised height of the front bar provides the perfect wine tasting and paring spot. I especially love the pendant lights which look like wine glasses. Finally, I selected carpet for the stairs and office. It is perfect for noise reduction. Meanwhile for the overall flooring, I specifically selected a high-performance vinyl plank floor. We often use this product as it is perfect to install on a concrete floor. It is soft to walk on, easy to clean and does not reduce the overall height of the space.

New custom cabinetry in an off-white finish offer storage galore. Hand made zellige tiles provide a pop of color in this otherwise neutral kitchen. New European range and hood provide a handsome focal point. Rectangle island with marble top is home to an undermount sink, dishwasher, trash bin, seating as well as extra storage. New panel-ready refrigerator and coffee station complete this classic look.

This eclectic kitchen design in Mission Viejo-Lake View brings light into the space through a large window, which is then beautifully reflected in the mirror paneled pantry doors. The mirrors add depth and light to the space, giving the kitchen a bright, airy feel. Glass pendant lights, recessed lighting, and under- and in-cabinet lights complete the multi-layered lighting design. The Columbia Cabinetry recessed panel kitchen cabinets bring a traditional foundation to the kitchen design. White perimeter cabinetry includes glass front upper cabinets with in cabinet lighting, offering the perfect place to display dishes and glassware. This is beautifully contrasted by gray island cabinetry, all accented by Top Knobs cabinet hardware. The island incorporates seating for casual dining and an angled undercounter power strip. A white engineered quartz countertop is a stylish and practical complement to the cabinetry. The white and gray theme carries through in the marble backsplash, which brings the natural texture and color of this material to the design. A porcelain tile wood look floor brings warmth to the color scheme, in a durable and easy to maintain material. Stainless steel appliances feature throughout the design, including the LG refrigerator and range, Sharp microwave drawer, and Zephyr chimney vent hood. A backsplash tile feature design adds a focal point above the range. The beverage center incorporates a Zephyr wine refrigerator. An Allia by Rohl white fireclay undermount sink is positioned facing the large kitchen window that overlooks a stunning view and is accompanied by a pull-down sprayer faucet. This Mission Viejo-Lake View kitchen design brings together materials, textures, lighting, and complementary colors to create a stunning space. This kitchen is sure to be the center of life in the home, perfect for daily family life, casual dining, sipping a glass of wine while enjoying the view, and entertaining friends. This amazing, U-shaped Memorial (Houston, TX 77024) custom kitchen design was influenced by the "The Great Gatsby" era with its custom zinc flared vent hood with nickel plated laminate straps. This terrific hood flares in on the front and the sides. The contrasting finishes help to add texture and character to this fully remodeled kitchen. This hood is considerably wider than the cooktop below. It's actually 60" wide with an open back splash and no cabinets on either side. We love to showcase vent hoods in most of our designs because it serves as a great conversation piece when entertaining family and friends. A good design tip is to always make the vent hood larger than the stove. It makes an incredible statement! The antiqued, mirror glass cabinets feature a faux finish with a furniture like feel. The large back splash features a zig zag design, often called "chevron pattern." The french sconces with nickel plated shades are beautifully displayed on each side of the gorgeous "La Cornue" stove adding bling to the kitchen's magnificence and giving an overall elegant look with easy clean up. Additionally, there are two (2) highbrow chandeliers by Curry & Company, gives the kitchen the love needed to be a step above the norm. The island bar has a farmhouse sink and a full slab of "Fantasy Brown" marble with seating for five. There is tons of storage throughout the kitchen with plenty of drawer and cabinet space on both sides of the island. The sub-zero refrigerator is totally integrated with cupboards and drawers to match. Another advantage of this variety of refrigeration is that you create furniture-style cabinetry. This is a truly great idea for a dateless design transformation in Houston with raised-panel cupboards and paneled appliances. Polished nickel handles, drawer pulls and faucet hardware complete the design.

The knee wall between the original kitchen and living room was removed. The island was planned with seating and the sink. Another opening to the back butlers pantry are was opened to allow easy access to stock items and an extra refrigerator.

Despite its diamond-mullioned exterior, this stately home’s interior takes a more light-hearted approach to design. The Dove White inset cabinetry is classic, with recessed panel doors, a deep bevel inside profile and a matching hood. Streamlined brass cup pulls and knobs are timeless. Departing from the ubiquitous crown molding is a square top trim. The layout supplies plenty of function: a paneled refrigerator; prep sink on the island; built-in microwave and second oven; built-in coffee maker; and a paneled wine refrigerator. Contrast is provided by the countertops and backsplash: honed black Jet Mist granite on the perimeter and a statement-making island top of exuberantly-patterned Arabescato Corchia Italian marble. Flooring pays homage to terrazzo floors popular in the 70’s: “Geotzzo” tiles of inlaid gray and Bianco Dolomite marble. Field tiles in the breakfast area and cooking zone perimeter are a mix of small chips; feature tiles under the island have modern rectangular Bianco Dolomite shapes. Enameled metal pendants and maple stools and dining chairs add a mid-century Scandinavian touch. The turquoise on the table base is a delightful surprise. An adjacent pantry has tall storage, cozy window seats, a playful petal table, colorful upholstered ottomans and a whimsical “balloon animal” stool. This kitchen was done in collaboration with Daniel Heighes Wismer and Greg Dufner of Dufner Heighes and Sarah Witkin of Bilotta Architecture. This expansive Victorian had tremendous historic charm but hadn’t seen a kitchen renovation since the 1950s. The homeowners wanted to take advantage of their views of the backyard and raised the roof and pushed the kitchen into the back of the house, where expansive windows could allow southern light into the kitchen all day. A warm historic gray/beige was chosen for the cabinetry, which was contrasted with character oak cabinetry on the appliance wall and bar in a modern chevron detail.
