The basement provides adequate natural light, but walling off the gym area would have eliminated that lighting benefit for the workout room. We designed a double door glass entry and installed interior windows in the dividing wall to take advantage of the natural light. This ‘divided yet open’ solution creates cohesiveness in the space. It also separates activities that have competing noise, allowing them to occur simultaneously, but still promoting a sense of inclusiveness for all of the participants.

The layers of complexity are so seamlessly integrated that the finished result does not overwhelm but rather invites you to linger and savor. The mix of paint finishes, quartz, marble and walnut tops, x-mullion doors and satin brass pulls and knobs all contribute to a layering of textures and color. The stiles of the base cabinets are extended to create furniture pieces in keeping with an old farmhouse but with a distinctly modern twist. The moss colored bar, with floating shelves and spectacular backsplash, completes the stunning project. We were invited to participate in the 2019 Montecito Designer Showhouse for Montecito Life magazine. Our team designed the master suite including the master bedroom, bathroom, and connecting hallway. We gave both spaces a bohemian, natural, and sophisticated feel. The focal point of the master bedroom is the 6ft mirror hung on the wall next to the bed. It is a breathtaking design feature, and it makes the room feel larger. To make sure that the room feels completely bespoke, we worked with a local wood fabricator to make an accent wall out of angled wood pieces that were painted the same color as the surrounding room. This accent wall is right at the entrance to the master suite, so it sets the tone for a unique and gorgeous space. In the bathroom, we created an oasis by wrapping the entire space in tile and accenting it with bronze finishes in the mirrors and light fixtures. --- Project designed by Montecito interior designer Margarita Bravo. As part of an overall renovation of an old farmhouse the bathrooms are always a little more di cult to plan. In this case our client wanted to create a real “masculine” overall feel but with enough class to make it comfortable for a woman. Bold forms and solid lines needed to be o set by subtle softness in the design. THE RESULTS The overall bathroom is both handsome and bold. We custom built the walnut vanity from wall to wall of the existing space. We used wall mounted faucets with just a bit of a rounded profile to soften the square edges of the soapstone tops and walnut mirror. The shower is a combination of very bold blackened steel framed glass around a clean white subway tile background. The black and white theme is quite typical in this period home. Our client was an active participant in the overall design process and was thrilled with the result. This bathroom is a total remake of a small bathroom that existed in an old stone farmhouse in which the whole house was totally renovated. As this was a bachelor pad of sorts there was a real desire to blend bold forms and dark colors with a touch of class and sophistication. Bold walnut vanity with soft baskets for storage blended perfectly with black metal shower frame and clean white subway tile. A very cozy modern bath with a charming old world feel.

Saturday, April 11, 2:00-3:30pm Register Online: https://tclf.org/event/garden-dialogues-dallas-fort-worth-2015 One Westover by William Bibb and Brian McDonald of Archiverde, LLC, with Weldon Turner, Turner | Boaz Architecture This stately private property, originally owned by the philanthropic Rhodes family for more than 100 years, was completely renovated by the current owner from 2010-2013. The project is a major collaboration between the landscape architect and architect, both of whom will participate in the Dialogue. The landscape is just over an acre, and its design is based on centerlines and relationships of the architecture. The arrival is marked by a sweeping walkway that runs along the edge of a grand central lawn and stately groves of pond cypress trees frame the house on both sides. At the rear of the home an open courtyard holds an elaborate swimming pool complete with fountain, infinity weir and shallow water ledge. An adjacent fire pit is surrounded by four live oak trees. The pool and fire pit area were designed based upon the centerline of the master bedroom. At the basement area the lower courtyard centers on the large library windows. Here lacey Japanese maple trees set in large pots provide a delicate canopy. To the east a veranda overlooks a small lawn area backed by pre-existing woodland and a creek bed enhanced by new native plantings. 2016 was an exceptional year for the design team! We were honored to participate in the 2016 DC Design House alongside other notable designers from the area. With a full space to work within the living room, our studio was able to bring modern elements into a traditional home. We didn't let the living room's traditional appeal dictate a conservative design. Instead, we added modern elements, including a 1950s Swedish rug from Doris Leslie Blau and white-lacquered, 1940s-era benches upholstered in a cut-velvet geometric by Schumacher. Bellweather Construction, LLC is a trained and certified remodeling and home improvement general contractor that specializes in period-appropriate renovations and energy efficiency improvements. Bellweather's managing partner, William Giesey, has over 20 years of experience providing construction management and design services for high-quality home renovations in Philadelphia and its Main Line suburbs. Will is a BPI-certified building analyst, NARI-certified kitchen and bath remodeler, and active member of his local NARI chapter. He is the acting chairman of a local historical commission and has participated in award-winning restoration and historic preservation projects. His work has been showcased on home tours and featured in magazines.

For over twenty years, Walker Zanger has been a participating vendor for the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. Each year, a house in the Pasadena area is selected and transformed into a showpiece by some of the leading interior designers in Los Angeles. The house selected for the 2014 Showcase is known as the Flint House and was originally built for Robert Flint and his wife Margaret Grey Flint in 1915, in the English Arts and Crafts style. Designs of the Interior was selected to design the Master Suite Wing and teamed up with Walker Zanger to remodel the master bath. Due to the historical aspect of this landmark, major construction was limited and the designers were barred from removing historical pieces, like windows and fireplaces. The designers selected a color palette of grays, taupe, cream and peacock. Sleek fixtures graced the freestanding oval bath tub, while nickel finishes adorn the shower and sink. Walker Zanger’s Tangent Collection, which consists of decorative marble and limestone mosaics, lined the floors and the shower and bath walls. The floor contains a starburst mosaic pattern made out of Calacatta marble and Flannel and Ash Grey limestones. The shower fixtures were highlighted by a strip of Café Bruno marble tiles and surrounded by a teardrop mosaic pattern in Calacatta. Inspired by a blend of abstract geometrical shapes and mid-century modern design, Designs of the Interior considered Walker Zanger’s Tangent Collection the perfect choice for transforming this master bath into a magnificent show piece that complements the home’s original architecture.

Mid-sized coastal gray three-story wood gable roof idea in Philadelphia

Rich and Janet approached us looking to downsize their home and move to Corvallis to live closer to family. They were drawn to our passion for passive solar and energy-efficient building, as they shared this same passion. They were fortunate to purchase a 1050 sf house with three bedrooms and 1 bathroom right next door to their daughter and her family. While the original 55-year-old residence was characterized by an outdated floor plan, low ceilings, limited daylight, and a barely insulated outdated envelope, the existing foundations and floor framing system were in good condition. Consequently, the owners, working in tandem with us and their architect, decided to preserve and integrate these components into a fully transformed modern new house that embodies the perfect symbiosis of energy efficiency, functionality, comfort and beauty. With the expert participation of our designer Sarah, homeowners Rich and Janet selected the interior finishes of the home, blending lush materials, textures, and colors together to create a stunning home next door to their daughter’s family. The successful completion of this wonderful project resulted in a vibrant blended-family compound where the two families and three generations can now mingle and share the joy of life with each other.

A stunning design worthy of a tour. Our clients wanted to extend the indoor living to the outdoors, using materials that aren’t everyday or ordinary. The D. A. Dunlevy team designed a plan that integrates form and function—and is nothing less than extraordinary. Four distinct spaces were built using different materials–granite cobblestones for the parking area, Terra travertine for walkways and terraces, and Lake George Ashler stone for walls and steps. The overall effect creates separation and cohesion and invites exploration. The outdoor rooms include a large sitting area, a dining space, and a tranquil lounge. Along with the boxwoods and pine tree, new plantings were added to create a consistent feel of luxurious greenery. The sitting area hosts a custom water feature that creates a gentle, soothing cascade. The final design is elegant, functional, and a breathtaking series of spaces that earned high praise from the owners and the Georgetown Garden Tour participants.
