This project uses a neutral color palette to enhance the sea view, allowing the natural beauty outside to participate in the apartment's design. The soft whites, beiges, and creams throughout create a calming, cohesive backdrop that amplifies the light and airy ambiance of each space. To add vibrancy and personality, carefully selected artwork and decor pieces introduce pops of color, serving as focal points without disrupting the serene atmosphere. Thoughtfully incorporated biophilic design elements—such as fresh greenery and organic shapes—bring a natural feel indoors, fostering a connection with nature. The outcome is a sophisticated space that feels both luxurious and inviting.

The existing kitchen was a small 7.5 x 11.5 area with inadequate heating and limited natural light, available through an awkward peninsula dividing the kitchen from a previous family room addition. The newest addition to Portland's Pearl District residential highrises, Vibrant! is 12-story affordable housing building featuring 93 units, community rooms, a small rooftop deck, and a second-floor outdoor play area. Build by Bremik Constructions, the project was sustainably designed to meet the Earth Advantage Gold standards. Bremik successfully exceeded the 20% MWESB utilization goal with 22.2% participation. The builder chose Castle Bespoke zero-waste uni-directional parquet product Mosaic from our Uptown Collection for the walls of the building lobby to complement their sustainability ambitions for this project. Castle Bespoke Mosaic is 100% edge grain European White Oak made from the waste material created during the hardwood plank manufacturing process, making it one of the most eco-friendly products in the market. These panels are solid and made to last with a thick wear layer that can be sanded up-to 6 times.

A 43” diameter heritage pecan guided the plan of this neighborhood-scaled, modestly-priced, single-story, L-shaped house. In Austin’s seemingly perpetual drought, the goal was to create a symbiotic relationship between house and tree: to complement, not combat each other. The roof’s east/west parallel ridges create a valley directly across from the base, where water is collected at a grate, nourishing the tree. The roof also maximizes south facing surfaces, elevated at 15 degrees for future solar collection. The open, public spaces of the home maximize the north-south light. The private zone of the bedrooms and bathrooms include a generous gallery; its angled walls and large sliding doors are faceted about the tree. The pecan becomes a central focus for indoor and outdoor living, participating in the house in both plan and section. The design welcomes and nurtures the tree as integral to its success. This transitional Showplace kitchen is in a newly constructed ADA home, designed specifically around the homeowners’ needs and disability. The kitchen design features a versatile, flat-panel door style with a medium matte finish and quartz countertops. The dual height island and special sink/stove aprons allow for a wheelchair to slide underneath with ease, which gives all members of the family a chance to participate in meal prep and socialization within the kitchen. Another special ADA feature is a special wall oven that opens side to side instead of up and down, allowing easier access for anyone in a wheelchair. Other special features include decorative glass doors, plate organizer drawer, crown molding that fades into the wall, and a wood hood. An absolutely beautiful home with all the features needed to assist the homeowner with everyday life. Designed by Mark Spangler, Architect, this home is intended to look like an old farm house that was added on to over the years. Construction details, materials and other considerations are all carefully chosen to reflect the era when family farms were a staple and quality was the norm. With a perfect setting near the James River and tucked in behind the Goochland Courthouse on a family farm, this home will be a hidden gem of fantastic architecture and quality construction.

We recently participated in a Designer Showhouse for a historic home in Bayport, NY. We were asked to do the dining room, kitchen and laundry room. Due to the homes proximity to the ocean we chose ocean blues as our theme color. Although the room itself is a good size we did not want to overwhelm it with furniture and instead chose accent pieces that draw the viewers attention to the beautifully restored chair rail on the walls. The bamboo rug blends nicely with the restored floors, thus offering it protection in the table area but not detracting from the floors natural beauty. We chose to work with the existing chandelier in keeping with the style of the home. We changed the glass to shades on the chandelier to give the room softer feel. We thank Barbara Leogrande of Douglas Elliman for offering us the opportunity to work on this beautifully restored historic home.

Products making their television debut in this project were Anthology Woods Northwest Blend (a naturally weathered wood installed on a section of the ceiling, unfinished) and the extremely hard & durable Left Coast White Oak, a unique species growing only in a narrow strip of Oregon and bit in California & Washington (installed for the flooring, finished with Rubio Monocoat White natural oil). The homeowners were able to easily apply the finish themselves prior to installing the floor, and the zero VOC nature of the oil insured it was safe to move right in! The White tint to the oil gives a subtle white-washed look to the floors while maintaining a natural look and a supple feel underfoot. The couple participating in the episode loved their floor so much they decided to add more, installing it in their master bedroom, as well! The rich character of this natural Oak in a flat sawn (the old "European" way to cut Oak) wood product adds a timeless element & warmth to the feel of the space. Looking closely at the grain, you'll see cathedral patterns in many boards, along with a great mix of flat grain with rift areas as well. Finishing out the details of the room, the Bath Crashers team added natural carerra marble in the shower with tones of white & gray, and apron-front vanity sinks for extra charm.

As part of an overall renovation of an old farmhouse the bathrooms are always a little more di cult to plan. In this case our client wanted to create a real “masculine” overall feel but with enough class to make it comfortable for a woman. Bold forms and solid lines needed to be o set by subtle softness in the design. THE RESULTS The overall bathroom is both handsome and bold. We custom built the walnut vanity from wall to wall of the existing space. We used wall mounted faucets with just a bit of a rounded profile to soften the square edges of the soapstone tops and walnut mirror. The shower is a combination of very bold blackened steel framed glass around a clean white subway tile background. The black and white theme is quite typical in this period home. Our client was an active participant in the overall design process and was thrilled with the result. This bathroom is a total remake of a small bathroom that existed in an old stone farmhouse in which the whole house was totally renovated. As this was a bachelor pad of sorts there was a real desire to blend bold forms and dark colors with a touch of class and sophistication. Bold walnut vanity with soft baskets for storage blended perfectly with black metal shower frame and clean white subway tile. A very cozy modern bath with a charming old world feel.

Ultra-Luxe design is found in the details. Each hand cut & placed dry stack stone in this scene, from their outdoor kitchen to the booted patio extension column, throughout the raised spa, the water feature wall, and the fire bowl columns are placed for depth & dimensional effect. The 1x1 glass tile forming the spa spillway attracts the waterfall like a magnet to deliver a gentle edgeless connection to the swimming pool. With carefully cut & placed tile match on the "rolled beam" of the spa interior, the entire spa scene gleams with intent as it delivers smooth, restful comfort. Completing the scene with an expansive pool deck color matched to bring it all together and leaving plenty of room for sports, play & relaxation delivers the total residential dream oasis.
