Built in the 1950s, this rambler housed a dark, cramped galley kitchen only 6’ x 20’. A later addition added more space, but wasn’t optimally designed. So, when they purchased the property, the new owners did so with the intent of gutting and remodeling the first floor. The goal of the renovation was to create a functional, dedicated kitchen and dining room space while keeping many of the home’s historic touches. The first step was to remove the bearing wall between kitchen and living room and install a structural beam to create a seamless connection between the two spaces. A large center island was designed to be the focal point of the space, complete with a new farm sink and room to serve four or more people. A professional range with a stylish wooden hood was installed and custom cabinets wrap around the entire kitchen to provide plenty of storage. Meanwhile, a custom-built hutch was installed in the dining room area, as was a butler’s pantry, to add more flair to the project. A timeless tile backsplash was installed to spruce up the soft color granite top which was carefully selected to harmonize with cabinet and floor color schemes. The lighting was revamped and redesigned for entire space, including a couple of hanging pendants over the island. Wide plank distressed hardwood flooring was installed all over the kitchen and dining room to maintain the integrity of historic look. With all new appliances, linen-stained maple cabinetry and distressed wood Island, old world hickory floor and more, this project moved from its dysfunctional status to fun and funky.

This classic white kitchen design completely transformed the space infusing it with personality, functionality, and a much improved use of square footage. The kitchen openly flows to the den and eating area. We removed the wall between the den and the dining room to create a completely open floor plan. We also took some space from the client’s two car garage to add a mudroom, so the family can come in through the garage and have a place to put everything before entering the living space. This landing area also includes a powder room. In the photo this mudroom area is the hallway space next to the wall oven. The new mudroom has plenty of coat storage and extra cabinetry for pantry and bulk items. The overall design is an incredible improvement with timeless elements. The cabinetry is from our Elmwood line and the finish is White Dove. The client chose one of our favorite quartz colors — Compac’s Unique Calacatta. The custom design details on the cabinet interiors and overall design provide much needed additional storage for organizing everything. The clean lines and custom detailing are truly timeless.

The Problem- We undertook this Transitional Kitchen Remodel with Prescott homeowners who were looking for an open floor plan. Most importantly they wanted to tie the kitchen and living room together. As a result, creating one open concept transitional entertaining space. Additionally, this homeowner was a professional cook and needed an expansive workplace to cook with plenty of space for prep. The Solution- First, we tore down floor to ceiling dividing walls that separated the kitchen from the living room. Then we got rid of a soffit that trapped the entire kitchen which made it feel tight and cramped. Next, we expanded the kitchen using Maple Grey Mist Cabinets from Wellborn. Adding an eat-in island with accent Gauntlet Maple Cabinets makes this kitchen suitable for entertaining guests while keeping with the transitional kitchen design. Finally, we kept the flow from the kitchen into the living room seamless with luxury vinyl plank flooring.

My client called me in for a "Design Perspective". She hated her floors and wanted my professional opinion. I questioned whether I should be brutally honest, and her response was "absolutely". Then truth be told, "your countertops bother me more than your floors". My client has a stunningly beautiful home and her countertops were not in "the same league". So the project scope expanded from new floors to include countertops, backsplash, plumbing fixtures and hardware. While we were at it, her overly froufrou corbels were updated along with dishwashers that "drove her crazy". Since there was plenty of "demo" in store, she elected to lower her breakfast bar to counter height at the same time to connect her nook more seamlessly with her kitchen. The process: at our first slab warehouse stop, within ten minutes, we uncovered the most beautiful slabs of Taj Mahal ever. No need to keep looking. The slabs had perfect coloration and veining. So different from any other slab of Taj Mahal, it really ought to have its own name. Countertop selection was easy as was the subway and Arabesque backsplash tile. Polished chrome, with its blend of warm and cool tones, was the obvious choice for her plumbing fixture and hardware finish. Finding the right floor tile was what proved to be most challenging, but my client was up to the task. Several weeks of shopping and numerous samples hauled home led us to the perfect limestone. Once her room was complete, better barstools were in order. Hancock and Moore with their huge assortment of leather colors and textures was our clear choice. The Ellie barstools selected embody the perfect blend of form and comfort. Her new limestone flooring extends into her Butler's pantry, pool bath, powder bath and sewing room, so wait, there is still more to do.

Chris and Sofia of Arlington Heights knew when they purchased their home that they would finish the basement. They needed a space for the kids to hang out, for family and friends to stay, and to have a better space for hosting holidays and parties. The dark unfinished space went mostly unused for three years, but once their kids reached the ideal age for use of a well-built basement, they moved ahead with their plan. “The old basement was dark and cold, and the kids came down and played, but they didn’t like it. The new space is like a whole other house, so we have this space for family game nights and for watching games or Super Bowl parties,” Chris said. The couple found Advance Design Studio through a friend who had their entire home renovated by the remodeling company. After the initial meeting and visiting the showroom, Chris and Sofia were positive that Advance Design was the company that could best turn their unfinished basement into a family friendly space for everyone to enjoy. “We really liked the showroom, we liked being able to choose all of those finishes and meet with them in one place,” Chris said. The new basement truly has a space for everyone. If the kids want to watch a movie and hang out on the couch they can, if family wants to play games and have a pizza party on the large island they can, and if guests want to stay over night on the pull-out sofa they can enjoy the entire private “suite” complete with a full bath. It is the true definition of a multifunctional basement. The stunning, full kitchen is the highlight of this now bright and airy basement. You walk down the stairs and are immediately impressed with the detailed metal tile work on the ceiling, bringing to mind the classic feel of a comfortable old pub. Cherry Merlot cabinets provide a rich contrast against the soft neutral walls and the contrasting copper tin ceiling tile and backsplash. Rich Santa Cecelia granite countertops pair nicely with timeless stonework on the outer walls. The island is large enough to provide a more than adequate entertaining space, and provides plenty of both seating and storage. The well-appointed kitchen houses a regular size refrigerator, a full size oven for pizza parties and cookie baking anytime, a microwave oven as well as complete sink and trash set up. One could easily do without a home kitchen forever in this generously designed secondary space! The fireplace and buffet wall seating area is the ideal place to watch movies or sporting events. The coordinating stonework on the fireplace flows throughout the basement, and a burnt orange accent wall brings color and warmth to otherwise ordinary basement space. The Elite Merlot media buffet compliments the kitchen as well as provides storage and a unique functional display option, giving this part of the basement a sophisticated, yet functional feel. The full bath is complete with a unique furniture style cherry DuraSupreme vanity and matching custom designed mirror. The weathered look to the cabinets and mirror give the bathroom some earthy texture as does the stone floor in the walk-in shower. Soft blue makes the space a spa-like mini retreat, and the handsome wall to wall tile and granite speak luxury at every corner. Advance Design added clever custom storage spaces to take advantage of otherwise wasted corners. They built a custom mudroom for the kids to house their sports equipment and a handy built in bench area with basket pull outs for a custom home gym. “They were able to custom fit this second mudroom with the lockers and the bench, they were able to custom build that, so the kids could store all of their equipment down here for the sports that they are in,” Chris said. They Got The Amazing Space They Had Envisioned for Years! The basement Chris and Sofia had envisioned had come to life in a few short months of planning, design and construction, just a perfect fit in the summer months. Advance Design Studio was able to design and build a custom, multifunctional space that the whole family can enjoy. “I would recommend Advance Design because of the showroom, because of the cleanliness on the jobsite and the professionalism, combined with Christine’s design side as well as Todd’s builder’s side - it’s nice to have it all together,” reminisced Chris after the project was complete.

These are returning clients of Sosna, for whom we previously completed a Laundry Room and multiple Bathroom renovation. They are a family of professionals in the restaurant industry, who returned to Sosna to renovate their outdated, and cramped Kitchen. They found it especially cramped when entertaining guests, as the only space to gather was around the cooking area. During the renovation process, it was discovered that the existing window had leaked and caused extensive damage to the exterior wall. This damage was repaired with new framing and insulation, and a larger window was installed allowing for a beautiful view of the backyard. In the newly renovated Kitchen, a large peninsula in the center of the room features unique grooved panels with LED lighting and a quartz waterfall countertop. Creating the grooved panels to align perfectly with the tall cabinets on the opposite wall and also fit the LED channels required detailed and careful calculations. This peninsula not only enhances the aesthetics of the space but also serves a functional purpose. It provides a designated area for food preparation and cooking behind it, while the opposite side remains a convenient and safe space for entertaining, allowing guests to communicate and interact with their hosts effortlessly. The back wall of the Kitchen features the stove and large hood cabinet, which are flanked by 2 appliance garages to hide and store small countertop appliances. As well, cabinetry that is fully loaded with drawer and cabinet accessories with pull-outs and inserts keeps the countertops free from clutter. The right side of the Kitchen includes the fridge, pantry, and tall cabinetry with plenty of useful storage. A wine fridge and built-in coffee machine are conveniently placed for entertaining. Given the new cabinetry was a mix of doors with a thin shaker profile, and doors with grooves, the installation of knobs and handles required careful measurement to ensure that they not only fit the grooves, but lined up for a clean and cohesive look. This client needed a place to entertain by the pool. They had already done their “inside” kitchen with Bilotta and so returned to design their outdoor space. All summer they spend a lot of time in their backyard entertaining guests, day and night. But before they had their fully designed outdoor space, whoever was in charge of grilling would feel isolated from everyone else. They needed one cohesive space to prep, mingle, eat and drink, alongside their pool. Experience life in the heart of Paris Madeleine with this cosy 1-bedroom, 31 square meters apartment located on the 4th floor of a secure residential building without an elevator. The open-plan living, kitchen and dining area is furnished with a sofa, coffee tables, dining table and chairs for 4 and more. The dining area can double up as a home office space. We understand the importance of staying connected, which is why there is a high-speed Wi-Fi (1/Gbps) connection. The fully equipped kitchen has an electric tea kettle, sink, toaster, full refrigerator, stove, Nespresso coffee machine, oven, dishwasher and more. The kitchen also comes with all the cookware, dishes and utensils needed to prepare meals at home. There is a clothes washer and drying rack for your convenience. Cleaning supplies, a vacuum, broom and mop are also provided. The apartment is heated with electric heating. The bedroom is street-facing and comes furnished with a double size bed, a quality mattress and plenty of storage space. All the necessary bedding and linens are provided and professionally laundered. This property can host up to 2 guests. There is an en-suite shower room attached to the bedroom with a walk-in shower and sink. The toilet is located in a separate water closet accessible via the hallway. Initially this master bath was home to a small standard size shower and linen closet that left too little vanity space on one side of the room, and awkward open space on the other. Our professional design team started with a clean slate to maximize the floor plan and give these homeowners not only an updated master bath, but a master bath that better fit the space and their functional needs. Now the homeowners have plenty of vanity space along with a lavish shower and soaking tub for relaxation.

For many, the idea of downsizing can be daunting, especially when moving from a spacious rural home to a compact condo. However, our clients were determined to embrace this change to simplify their lives and indulge in waterfront living. With panoramic views of Lake Nepahwin, they were eager to create a retreat maximizing space without compromising style. To optimize space, we adopted a minimalist approach, focusing on multifunctional furniture and clever storage solutions. By strategically placing furniture and incorporating a pantry, disguised as an built-in armoire in the living room, we were able to make the most of every square inch while maximizing the expanse. “Every inch of real estate is valued,” says Lauren Perry “and that is how downsizing becomes a delight.” The original pantry was excessive for the couple, but the primary bedroom was lacking closet space. Enter demolition. We opened a bathroom wall and converted the existing pantry into a walk-in closet for our client’s impressive wardrobe. Prioritizing the built-ins with plenty of drawers customized this space for our client’s personal needs and showcased her impeccable taste in clothes, shoes, and accessories. Every selection had to be carefully considered so the space is inviting, without feeling congested. The fixtures and decor were curated to layer interest, but not detract from the beautiful views of the condo, a delicate balance best left to the professionals.
