A living room that feels like a memory after rain. A plum rug anchors the space like earth drenched in monsoon, while moss velvet chairs and a caramel curve of a sofa echo lush landscapes and sun-warmed soil. Sculptural tables recall river stones, brass glimmers like light on wet streets, and tall sheer drapery ripples like falling rain, softening the light. Nostalgia and modernity entwined—where the Pacific Northwest meets the poetry of the Indian monsoons.

A curved sectional sofa and round tufted leather ottoman bring comfort and style to this Aspen great room. Introducing these circular forms in to a large rectangular space helped to divide the room and create a seamless flow. It's a great gathering spot for the family. The shaped area rug was customized to define the seating arrangement.

This North Shore, MA living room showcases a bold and inviting design centered around rich blue walls and custom wood built-in bookshelves. The space is filled with natural light from multiple windows dressed in soft white curtains, creating a bright contrast against the saturated wall color. A mix of comfortable seating—including a slipcovered armchair, patterned chaise, and vibrant accent chair—adds a layered, eclectic feel ideal for reading and relaxing. Warm wood tones, curated books, and decorative accents enhance the cozy, library-inspired atmosphere while maintaining a refined, lived-in charm.

At the same time, it adroitly accommodates a crowd, and facilitates large-scale entertaining with ease. This balance of private intimacy and public welcome is the result of Soucie Horner’s deft remodeling of the original floor plan and creation of an all-new wing comprising functional spaces including a mudroom, powder room, laundry room, and home office, along with an exciting, three-room teen suite above. A quietly orchestrated symphony of grayed blues unites this home, from Soucie Horner Collections custom furniture and rugs, to objects, accessories, and decorative exclamationpoints that punctuate the carefully synthesized interiors. Our studio designed this beautiful living and dining room with a stylish medley of soft pink pastels and elegant blues. The armchairs in the living room and printed curtains create a lively ambiance with their fun patterns breaking the neutral theme of the space. Striking artwork creates interesting focal points and urges conversations in the living room. The dining room looks elegant in soft blue hues that are soothing to the senses.

We turned an attic into a writer's garret. Honey-toned wood floors combine with warm gray wainscoting to make for an appealing space. Lighting by Portland's own Cedar & Moss. A live-edge wall-to-wall walnut wood desk provides ample room for writing, and mapping out research and story materials. Custom file folder and shelves tuck underneath. Photography by Ken Wyner 2101 Connecticut Avenue (c.1928), an 8-story brick and limestone Beaux Arts style building with spacious apartments, is said to have been “the finest apartment house to appear in Washington between the two World Wars.” (James M. Goode, Best Addresses, 1988.) As advertised for rent in 1928, the apartments were designed “to incorporate many details that would aid the residents in establishing a home atmosphere, one possessing charm and dignity usually found only in a private house… the character and tenancy (being) assured through careful selection of guests.” Home to Senators, Ambassadors, a Vice President and a Supreme Court Justice as well as numerous Washington socialites, the building still stands as one of the undisputed “best addresses” in Washington, DC.) So well laid-out was this gracious 3,000 sf apartment that the basic floor plan remains unchanged from the original architect’s 1927 design. The organizing feature was, and continues to be, the grand “gallery” space in the center of the unit. Every room in the apartment can be accessed via the gallery, thus preserving it as the centerpiece of the “charm and dignity” which the original design intended. Programmatic modifications consisted of the addition of a small powder room off of the foyer, and the conversion of a corner “sun room” into a room for meditation and study. The apartment received a thorough updating of all systems, services and finishes, including a new kitchen and new bathrooms, several new built-in cabinetry units, and the consolidation of numerous small closets and passageways into more accessible and efficient storage spaces.
