We took out the clients' existing cabinets with doors and roll-out shelves and replaced them with storage drawers, which improve ergonomics, organization and storage. Drawers provide one-step access to contents and better access, especially for items toward the back.

Inspired by the artwork throughout the house, I chose an artistic glass backsplash that combines movement with the look of a watercolor painting in the same taupes, soft blues, grey-blue and beiges of my clients' art collection. This space transitions beautifully into the adjacent dining room and the entertainment room.

Mixing two styles of hardware in two different materials boosts the visual impact in a kitchen and provides a more custom look. The drawer pulls are brass; the upper cabinet knobs are glass and brass. Notice the pop-up electrical outlet on the counter-top? It disappears under the counter when not in use for a sleek, uncluttered look.

We gutted and redesigned the kitchen, not only to update the look, but to make it brighter and more efficient. I also doubled the storage space, lengthened the island from four to eight feet long and enlarged the window from 30 inches to 5 feet. Doesn’t this space look elegant with the soft golden tones of brushed brass on the chandeliers, custom stove hood and drawer hardware?
