Created a multi-level outdoor living space to match the mid-century modern style of the home with upper deck and lower patio. Porcelain pavers create a clean pattern to offset the modern furniture, which is neutral in color and simple in shape to balance with the bold-colored accents.

The decking is now slow-burning epay wood. When it does burn, it burns slowly, making it less likely to ignite the home. "Drought tolerant" Mediterranean plants were replaced with a mix of natives that better hold hydration and will not travel into nearby wild spaces. Eichler in Marinwood - At the larger scale of the property existed a desire to soften and deepen the engagement between the house and the street frontage. As such, the landscaping palette consists of textures chosen for subtlety and granularity. Spaces are layered by way of planting, diaphanous fencing and lighting. The interior engages the front of the house by the insertion of a floor to ceiling glazing at the dining room. Jog-in path from street to house maintains a sense of privacy and sequential unveiling of interior/private spaces. This Box Sentinel was placed further up the drive in this application away from the busy road frontage. The customer still has a regular mailbox for letter mail located just out of sight in front of the white truck for USPS mail delivery. This makes for a safe place to all parcel deliveries and returns.

The existing, builder-grade, kitchen was not functional, as it was poorly lit, much needed storage space was underutilized, and un-safe, as the microwave was hung over the sink, causing the homeowners to hit their heads while working at the sink. Being a unit in an historic building, I was unable to move any of the existing plumbing & electrical, but could add to, as we did with the recessed and under cabinet LED lighting, I moved the microwave to a safe location, off of the counter and next to the refrigerator, and took the cabinetry to the ceiling, gaining an additional 12" of vertical storage along the main wall of the kitchen. Due to a supply vent being on the wall above the refrigerator, we had to get creative in how we brought it through the crown molding build-up, which led to a custom vent cover, that was designed and then fabricated to fit perfectly. This kitchen is packed with details that all came together to create a stunning, yet functional, new kitchen.

A 1950's home gets a big update with new fencing, arbors, rear deck, and front gate. Working with a skilled finish carpenter, we created a beautiful new fence to enclose this family-friendly yard. A small lawn provides space to play and enjoy, while California natives and complimentary shrubs surround the yard. Mature trees are protected with natural wood chip mulch. Rock mulch surrounds the 5-foot perimeter of the house with a few low fuel plants for a fire-safe landscape appropriate to the California foothills.
