Our clients came to as they were about to seal the deal on their new home in Littleton, CO. The order of business was a full kitchen overhaul to create a space that would function for the young familyof four and add value to the home. Much of the home was in need of updating but the clients really wanted to focus their design efforts on the kitchen. They knew they wanted to get it right. The goal was transform the small closed off kitchen into a welcome light filled gathering space. We maximized the natural lighting by eliminating the dropped ceiling looming over the existing kitchen. The lofty ceiling and existing window gift the space a bright and airy feeling. We also opened up a large section of the wall separating the mudroom from the kitchen to provide a view outside and brought more light into the space. The large stainless steel farmhouse sink by Vigo sits under the new wall opening with a great view out the window just beyond. A large five and a half foot by ten foot island is home to a 36” gas range, pots and pan storage, a drawer microwave, vertical tray storage, a pull out pantry, two trash can centers for trash and recycling, and seating for five. We selected a medium gray for the walls (Sherwin-Williams Elephant Ear) to set of the linen white shaker cabinetry. Two large pendants provide over island lighting and add a touch of warmth with the basket weave shades. We transformed what was once a built-in desk area, into a large built-in pantry. A hammered silver pendant over the sink offers task lighting. Cup pulls and knobs from Amerock’s Rochdale collection complete the look.

As written in Northern Home & Cottage by Elizabeth Edwards In general, Bryan and Connie Rellinger loved the charm of the old cottage they purchased on a Crooked Lake peninsula, north of Petoskey. Specifically, however, the presence of a live-well in the kitchen (a huge cement basin with running water for keeping fish alive was right in the kitchen entryway, seriously), rickety staircase and green shag carpet, not so much. An extreme renovation was the only solution. The downside? The rebuild would have to fit into the smallish nonconforming footprint. The upside? That footprint was built when folks could place a building close enough to the water to feel like they could dive in from the house. Ahhh... Stephanie Baldwin of Edgewater Design helped the Rellingers come up with a timeless cottage design that breathes efficiency into every nook and cranny. It also expresses the synergy of Bryan, Connie and Stephanie, who emailed each other links to products they liked throughout the building process. That teamwork resulted in an interior that sports a young take on classic cottage. Highlights include a brass sink and light fixtures, coffered ceilings with wide beadboard planks, leathered granite kitchen counters and a way-cool floor made of American chestnut planks from an old barn. Thanks to an abundant use of windows that deliver a grand view of Crooked Lake, the home feels airy and much larger than it is. Bryan and Connie also love how well the layout functions for their family - especially when they are entertaining. The kids' bedrooms are off a large landing at the top of the stairs - roomy enough to double as an entertainment room. When the adults are enjoying cocktail hour or a dinner party downstairs, they can pull a sliding door across the kitchen/great room area to seal it off from the kids' ruckus upstairs (or vice versa!). The windows of the original sun room were smaller sliding units, so there were more vertical and horizontal obstructions to the view. We opted for larger fixed glass units, which not only offer a more complete view of the Miles River, but also do a better job of sealing the conditioned space for the heat of the summer and the cold winds coming in across the marsh in winter. The skylights open and close with remote control operators, and all of the windows and skylights are equipped with remote control blinds that raise or lower with a push of a button.

Taragano Design & Build completed this stair landing as part of a whole house remodel in Contra Costa County, California. Split level houses have a circulation problem at the level change. The stair is usually enclosed, the landing is a dead corner, and the two floors read as separate houses. Here the enclosure came out and the stair was rebuilt as a wide open platform, so the level change becomes part of the room rather than a passage through it. Drawers were built into the step returns. On a stair that wide, the carriage volume is substantial and it would otherwise be sealed dead space. Putting storage there is the difference between an architectural gesture and a piece of the house that earns its footprint. The sliding door lets the upper hall close off without a swing arc, which matters at a landing where a hinged door would need clear floor area the stair does not have. Everything is rift white oak, including the treads, the risers, and the door. Running one species across the stair and the flooring means nothing announces where the millwork ends and the floor begins. Licensed general contractor, CSLB #1143420. Diamond Certified.

Welcome to the Wine Vault! This custom wine cellar in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California is one of a kind. Seriously - Everything about this space from the custom wine racking to the stone work to the sleek stainless steel framed doors.. a one of a kind custom wine cellar designed, built, and installed by custom wine cellar experts Vintage Cellars. This large custom wine room sits in the entertainment room downstairs in this gorgeous Beverly Hills mansion. Walls, ceiling, and floors of stone accentuate the dark custom wine racking used to cradle each wine bottle. Metal Wine Racking is commonplace and a very popular feature in many custom wine cellars / wine rooms / wine walls / wine vaults nowadays - but this was even a first for us too. The client worked closely with designers at Vintage Cellars to come up with a very unique look and desired effect for the bottles, utilizing custom railroad pegs in the style of Carriage Bolts to display each wine bottle neck out. This 500 bottle cellar masterpiece quickly became the showpiece of the entire downstairs of the home. Through careful consideration and planning, the design and install team was able to recess the cooling unit into the wall and duct in the cool air to keep this space at at constant 55 degrees with a perfect relative humidity. Our clients came to as they were about to seal the deal on their new home in Littleton, CO. The order of business was a full kitchen overhaul to create a space that would function for the young familyof four and add value to the home. Much of the home was in need of updating but the clients really wanted to focus their design efforts on the kitchen. They knew they wanted to get it right. The goal was transform the small closed off kitchen into a welcome light filled gathering space. We maximized the natural lighting by eliminating the dropped ceiling looming over the existing kitchen. The lofty ceiling and existing window gift the space a bright and airy feeling. We also opened up a large section of the wall separating the mudroom from the kitchen to provide a view outside and brought more light into the space. The large stainless steel farmhouse sink by Vigo sits under the new wall opening with a great view out the window just beyond. A large five and a half foot by ten foot island is home to a 36” gas range, pots and pan storage, a drawer microwave, vertical tray storage, a pull out pantry, two trash can centers for trash and recycling, and seating for five. We selected a medium gray for the walls (Sherwin-Williams Elephant Ear) to set of the linen white shaker cabinetry. Two large pendants provide over island lighting and add a touch of warmth with the basket weave shades. We transformed what was once a built-in desk area, into a large built-in pantry. A hammered silver pendant over the sink offers task lighting. Cup pulls and knobs from Amerock’s Rochdale collection complete the look.

This one covered the whole house, or close to it. A kitchen and the bathrooms all done in Fantasy Brown dolomite with a leathered finish, out near Orangeburg. The photos catch it mid-install with Lowe's floor protection still down, so you can see the tops going in before the space gets dressed up. There's an island, a farmhouse apron sink, some open shelving, and undermount bowls in the baths. It's the kind of job we like, where one stone carries through the whole home and ties everything together. Fantasy Brown is a dolomite, and that matters. People see the soft browns and grays and the flowing veins and assume it's a marble, but dolomite sits a step harder and holds up better in a working kitchen. The movement in it runs long and watery, brown and taupe drifting through a lighter background. No two slabs are the same, so a big part of the job is laying out the material and deciding which piece goes where. On the island we want the veining to feel like it belongs, and across a corner we do our best to keep the flow moving instead of stopping cold at the seam. The farmhouse apron sink is where the extra work shows. That kind of sink needs the front edge of the stone cut just right, and the reveal has to be even the whole way across. The undermount bowls in the bathrooms get polished on the inside edge so there's nothing rough to catch on. We template tight, cut to the template, and set the seams where they're least likely to bother you. An eased edge keeps it simple and easy to wipe down, which fits a house that's actually lived in. Dolomite likes to be sealed and it likes to be wiped up after acidic things like lemon or wine, but treated with a little sense it wears beautifully for years. It takes heat better than a lot of people expect, though we still say use a trivet. In a kitchen and baths that get daily use, it's a stone that looks high-end without being fussy to the point of stress. Orangeburg's a bit of a drive for us, but we go where the work is, and this was a repeat customer we think a lot of. Running the same dolomite through the kitchen and the bathrooms gave the whole place one voice. That's the payoff on a job like this, one material, careful layout, and a finish that reads the same room to room.

Walk into the kitchen in this Poway / Rancho Bernardo, San Diego home and it's impossible to miss this gorgeous 2,000 bottle, custom wine cellar showpiece. Completed in 2018, the cellar is complete with custom walnut stained poplar wine racking, rolling ladder for out of reach bottles, and much, much more. Against each window into the kitchen are floor to ceiling frames showcasing label out, metal racking to add a bit of modern flair. Two high reveal display rows circle the entire room, showcasing this homeowner's best bottles and designed to be angled perfectly to ensure the corks stay wet for long term storage. An island in the middle of the room acts as a great spot to open and decant wines, and integrated into each side are custom pieces of cabinetry and room for side displayed large format bottles. Also integrated into the racking is a a small countertop and glass rack. Inspiration for a timeless exterior home remodel in Denver

Photos by: Ledyard Homes This is a new custom luxury home built by Ledyard Homes in Utah – This is the Juniper model at the Lookout Ridge Promontory community features Panda’s thermally broken technology in their 12′ high doors. These custom thermally broken luxury doors were needed at this palatial rural home and Ledyard Homes selected Panda Windows and Doors to supply their thermally broken TS.19 in order for the future residents to fully enjoy their outdoor atmosphere from the comfort of their living space. While closed the thermal brake technology engineered into the TS.19 produces an air tight seal which enables the home to save energy and keep the great room interior space comfortable in both winter and summer and during harsh weather conditions. In addition to the energy and thermal benefits the doors also greatly reduce outdoor sound producing a serene environment inside the living space.

Starting with a multi-level, splintering old deck that didn’t transition well to the pool area - our goal was to great a more enjoyable and useable space where the homeowners can spend time relaxing & hosting poolside parties. We worked closely with the township to maximize the allowable impervious coverage for the property, which included reconfiguring all the landscaping to allow for more hardscaping. To say this backyard got a facelift is an understatement. Everything got some attention; from staining & sealing the concrete around the pool, tucking away the pool equipment, building an all new porch complete with gorgeous stonework & fireplace. Meeting the needs of the homeowners & surpassing their dreams is one of our favorite things, and with this design – that was exactly the case.

Photos by: Ledyard Homes This is a new custom luxury home built by Ledyard Homes in Utah – This is the Juniper model at the Lookout Ridge Promontory community features Panda’s thermally broken technology in their 12′ high doors. These custom thermally broken luxury doors were needed at this palatial rural home and Ledyard Homes selected Panda Windows and Doors to supply their thermally broken TS.19 in order for the future residents to fully enjoy their outdoor atmosphere from the comfort of their living space. While closed the thermal brake technology engineered into the TS.19 produces an air tight seal which enables the home to save energy and keep the great room interior space comfortable in both winter and summer and during harsh weather conditions. In addition to the energy and thermal benefits the doors also greatly reduce outdoor sound producing a serene environment inside the living space.

This one covered the whole house, or close to it. A kitchen and the bathrooms all done in Fantasy Brown dolomite with a leathered finish, out near Orangeburg. The photos catch it mid-install with Lowe's floor protection still down, so you can see the tops going in before the space gets dressed up. There's an island, a farmhouse apron sink, some open shelving, and undermount bowls in the baths. It's the kind of job we like, where one stone carries through the whole home and ties everything together. Fantasy Brown is a dolomite, and that matters. People see the soft browns and grays and the flowing veins and assume it's a marble, but dolomite sits a step harder and holds up better in a working kitchen. The movement in it runs long and watery, brown and taupe drifting through a lighter background. No two slabs are the same, so a big part of the job is laying out the material and deciding which piece goes where. On the island we want the veining to feel like it belongs, and across a corner we do our best to keep the flow moving instead of stopping cold at the seam. The farmhouse apron sink is where the extra work shows. That kind of sink needs the front edge of the stone cut just right, and the reveal has to be even the whole way across. The undermount bowls in the bathrooms get polished on the inside edge so there's nothing rough to catch on. We template tight, cut to the template, and set the seams where they're least likely to bother you. An eased edge keeps it simple and easy to wipe down, which fits a house that's actually lived in. Dolomite likes to be sealed and it likes to be wiped up after acidic things like lemon or wine, but treated with a little sense it wears beautifully for years. It takes heat better than a lot of people expect, though we still say use a trivet. In a kitchen and baths that get daily use, it's a stone that looks high-end without being fussy to the point of stress. Orangeburg's a bit of a drive for us, but we go where the work is, and this was a repeat customer we think a lot of. Running the same dolomite through the kitchen and the bathrooms gave the whole place one voice. That's the payoff on a job like this, one material, careful layout, and a finish that reads the same room to room.
