Intentional. Elevated. Artisanal. With three children under the age of 5, our clients were starting to feel the confines of their Pacific Heights home when the expansive 1902 Italianate across the street went on the market. After learning the home had been recently remodeled, they jumped at the chance to purchase a move-in ready property. We worked with them to infuse the already refined, elegant living areas with subtle edginess and handcrafted details, and also helped them reimagine unused space to delight their little ones. Elevated furnishings on the main floor complement the home’s existing high ceilings, modern brass bannisters and extensive walnut cabinetry. In the living room, sumptuous emerald upholstery on a velvet side chair balances the deep wood tones of the existing baby grand. Minimally and intentionally accessorized, the room feels formal but still retains a sharp edge—on the walls moody portraiture gets irreverent with a bold paint stroke, and on the the etagere, jagged crystals and metallic sculpture feel rugged and unapologetic. Throughout the main floor handcrafted, textured notes are everywhere—a nubby jute rug underlies inviting sofas in the family room and a half-moon mirror in the living room mixes geometric lines with flax-colored fringe. On the home’s lower level, we repurposed an unused wine cellar into a well-stocked craft room, with a custom chalkboard, art-display area and thoughtful storage. In the adjoining space, we installed a custom climbing wall and filled the balance of the room with low sofas, plush area rugs, poufs and storage baskets, creating the perfect space for active play or a quiet reading session. Rustic and refined meet to give a mountaintop home in Portola Valley, California, classic charm. They say the best things in life come to those who wait. So when a Bay Area couple purchased a rare set of adjoining lots overlooking Windy Hill in Portola Valley, they made frequent visits to the site where they absorbed the views while listening to the land as they contemplated building a home there. The intent: to create a home that would celebrate the scenic beauty of the San Mateo County region. Long before the design process began, the couple committed themselves to preserving as many trees on the land as possible. These trees, two majestic, centuries-old Blue Oaks in particular, ultimately became the impetus for the home’s orientation and the inspiration for its design. Detailed discussions and brainstorming sessions led the owners to discover their own unique tastes: “cozy” and “rustic“ while “contemporary, but not minimal.” The result? Sophisticated style comprised of simple, honest materials.

This classic kitchen renovation combines the timeless appeal of shaker white cabinetry, the luxury of gold accents, and the warmth of a neutral color palette to create a welcoming, functional, and stunning custom kitchen that complements the beauty and flow of this entire home’s open floor plan. To tie the space in this home together, we introduced warm hardwood flooring throughout the main level and selected a soft grey paint as our primary wall color. Kitchen- The heart of this home is most definitely the kitchen! We erased every trace of the original builder kitchen and created a space that welcomes one and all. The glorious island, with its light cabinetry and dramatic quartz countertop, provides the perfect gathering place for morning coffee and baking sessions. At the perimeter of the kitchen, we selected a handsome grey finish with a brushed linen effect for an extra touch of texture that ties in with the high variation backsplash tile giving us a softened handmade feel. We had fun with the backsplash tile patten (utilizing the same tile we highlighted in the kitchen but installed in a herringbone pattern). Plus, this space is home to the kegerator with custom family tap handles! Mud Room- We wanted to make sure we gave this busy family a landing place for all their belongings. With plenty of cabinetry storage, a sweet built-in bench, and hooks galore there’s no more jockeying to find a home for coats. Fireplace- A double-sided fireplace means double the opportunity for a dramatic focal point! On the living room side (the tv-free grown-up zone) we utilized reclaimed wooden planks to add layers of texture and bring in more cozy warm vibes. On the family room side (aka the tv room) we mixed it up with a travertine ledger stone that ties in with the warm tones of the kitchen island. Staircase- The standard builder handrail was just not going to do it anymore! So, we leveled up designed a custom steel & wood railing for this home with a dark finish that allows it to contrast beautifully against the walls and tie in with the dark accent finishes throughout the home.

This 2022 project was a fully custom mix and writing suite designed for multi-Grammy and Dove Award–winning producer and songwriter Kyle Lee. The goal was to create an environment that mirrors his creative workflow—quiet, natural, highly accurate, and intentionally crafted for long sessions of collaboration and focused work. The layout is compact but feels open thanks to high ceilings, soft daylight from the surrounding windows, and a palette of warm textures and natural materials. The room maintains a clean, grounded aesthetic without sacrificing technical performance, balancing style and acoustical precision in a way that supports both creativity and accuracy. Acoustic isolation was a core priority. The suite is fully separated from the rest of the home using sound-reducing wall assemblies, custom bass management including a full soft-ceiling trap and a false rear wall trap, and full-lite doors designed for controlled leakage. The result is a private, self-contained environment that integrates seamlessly with the home’s flow yet transforms into a focused creative space the moment the doors close. Monitoring was built around Kyle’s preferred ATC SCM45A loudspeakers, paired with Dynaudio subwoofers and calibrated specifically to the room’s frequency response. Every treatment, material, and speaker position was selected to ensure what Kyle hears while mixing precisely translates to the final master. The finished suite delivers an effortless feel with professional-grade performance—an inspiring, accurate, and dependable space built to support Kyle’s work at the highest level.

A 100-year-old farmhouse in Central Maryland was totally renovated and now sports a brand new RHEINZINK roof that gives it an authentic old-world look and feel. The property, which was originally a dairy farm, has been in the owner’s family since the 1920’s. The renovation involved gutting virtually the entire house and keeping only the frame. The asphalt roof, which had started leaking, was replaced with approximately 4,700 sq. ft. RHEINZINK’s PrePATINA graphite-grey Double Lock Standing Seam Panels. Fabrication and installation of the RHEINZINK panels was done by Hardin Construction, Union Bridge, MD. According to Craig Hardin, president, “The owner contacted me and said he wanted a roof on the house that would last for generations. We considered various metal material options but quickly settled on RHEINZINK because of its low to no maintenance and the color. The graphite-grey develops a nice patina that complements the house and makes the roof look like it’s always been there.” “Another factor that steered us toward RHEINZINK was their European detailing techniques,” Hardin said. “You don’t see any other metal roofs around here that have the kind of detailing and seaming techniques like this one.” Prior to doing the job, Hardin attended a how-to workshop at RHEINZINK America headquarters in Woburn, MA. The workshops, led by technical training manager Lou Rondeau, provide practical instruction in the installation of RHEINZINK roofing, façade and gutter systems. “These are hands-on sessions,” Rondeau said, “and they can really contribute to the craftsmanship of installers.” Hardin explained his approach to the project. “We’re a small company and I’m personally involved in the actual installation. Unlike larger companies with large crews that have to move fast, we really take the time to pay close attention to the detailing and finish work. This project is really distinctive in that regard,” Hardin said. In addition to the main roof, the RHEINZINK panels were used on the front porch, a screened-in back porch and a small, freestanding outbuilding. The stone outbuilding once enclosed a cold water spring where the dairy farm’s milk was stored. It now welcomes visitors to the property. This wall street inspired bedroom was curated for one of our most discerning clients. The 800 thread count bedding anchors the space and we added shagreen nightstands to flank the king-sized bed. The new molding at the head of the bed includes customized mirrors that we had installed. A new quartz desk space is designed for two, in those late-night work sessions. A large 65” smart television and ceiling concealed surround sound speakers ensure the client keeps a close eye on the market. A new carpet and area rug sets the tone for this contemporary bachelor space.

With children raised and the work of establishing a career behind them, Dennis and Helene Liotta decided it was time to simplify life and downsize—by moving up. They sold their 5,000 sq. ft. family home (complete with the requisite pool and expansive yard), in favor of a 3,600 sq. ft. residence on the 47th floor of The Sovereign, a sleek mixed-use tower located in Atlanta’s Buckhead district. Realizing they wanted to enlist a talented decorative collaborator for all phases of the project, the couple sought the assistance of Mercedes Williams, design consultant at Cantoni Atlanta. Having helped the couple’s sons with purchases in the past, he came highly recommended. “I know the Liotta’s were thrilled to have the opportunity to personally conceptualize their new home,” recalls Mercedes. “They wanted my input to customize the space—confirming paint, tile, flooring, and finish choices—and they wanted help choosing furniture that would create an elegant yet warm and comfortable living environment.” “Dennis and Helene also had a vision for how they wanted the space to flow,” he explains. “The large, open floor plan for the main living room included the kitchen and dining areas, so we had to delineate the spaces while creating visual interest…without using a lot of furniture.” Choosing pieces with impact, and looks that simultaneously celebrated texture, scale, finish, and color, was the key to success. The dining table and large wool rug were custom-made by Cantoni and colored to coordinate with some of the couple’s key glass collectibles. “We also made the salt water aquarium a focal point in the living area because Dennis and Helene love the beach and ocean,” explains Mercedes. Along with additional new furnishings from Cantoni the couple wanted to incorporate other existing pieces from their extensive art and glass collection. Given the size of their former residence, an editing session was in order, so the Liotta’s took a novel approach to the task at hand. “We had a huge ‘Sovereign’ moving party and let friends and family take some of the things we knew we could part with,” says Helene. Dennis and Helene have been settled into their new digs since November. He continues to work as a professor at Emory University, and she enjoys searching for premium wines sold at Wine Gallery + Market, a family-owned gourmet emporium in Atlanta. With two bedrooms and a study, there remains room enough for the grandkids to sleep over—and a large dining table was selected so the couple could continue to accommodate multi-generational gatherings. “This project was a dream job for me,” reflects Mercedes, with enthusiasm. “The Liotta’s have excellent taste and wanted to create a fun and inviting environment that evokes luxury without stuffiness. They knew what they wanted, but needed a little help getting there. I’m flattered they chose me and Cantoni to help them realize the life they dreamed of living at The Sovereign.”

As their kids growing and their nanny moving in, they all needed more space, bigger kitchen and better backyard space for kids to play.  Existing kitchen was 10’x10’ adjacent to dining room of about the same size  Old cabinets, vinyl floor and olive green appliances no longer made this kitchen a happy place to come home to  The back wall of solid block and brick and interior plaster walls where all big challenges to get rid of and opening up the place  A narrow hallway leading to bedroom was one of their major concerns and tough to get through. As the traffic path to get to the kitchen has been difficult  In few consultation session we all agreed on bumping the entire kitchen and dining room back wall and move the kitchen into new addition  This required breaking through a massive amount of cinder block and brick, leveling a majority of backyard to accomplish the desired grade level for addition and back deck  In past the only way out to backyard was through a single door of back stairway and it has been a big problem for them  With a new angle wall we have placed a large French door leading kitchen into back deck area  The old hallway wall has came down and gotten wider and new path from front to open floor plan kitchen and dining room was put in place  Another big challenge for this job was to run heating and cooling as well as plumbing into a kitchen area  The new kitchen had tall cabinets a beautiful cherry finish with a large bay window over sink area leading lot of light form back side.  New island with seating contributed to addition work space and more storage  Lot of recessed lights and a stone back splash made the project even more attractive  New wood flooring was put in place and entire Living, Dining room and kitchen was sanded and refinished to unify the space and make a seamless connection  A big wooded deck on the entire back was a place for kids to play and couple to retire and grill on their afternoons

The design inspiration for this remodel was lifestyle, clean lines, and an uncluttered look were the inspirations. Part of the design process is to gather information during an explorative session where we discuss how the kitchen will ultimately need to function and integrate into the overall style of the family and their home.
