This penthouse condo in Raven Woods is home to an adventurous, nature-loving couple. With their children grown and starting families of their own, Jeremy and Cynthia (names changed) chose to downsize their livable space and “upsize” in quality and luxury.
The couple hired us to help them achieve several well-defined goals: feeling immersed and connected to nature, having warm and welcoming spaces to host their family and friends, and selecting pieces that would support local makers and artisans. (If you know me, you know that nature, connection, and community are some of my most important values, personally and professionally — the perfect fit!)
Using our comprehensive design process, we spent months designing, procuring, and installing their new, long-time home. The resulting spaces are breathtaking, creating a daily living experience that is full of serenity and bliss.
Welcoming & Bright Home with Forest Views:
Ahhh… can you imagine coming home to a space as bright and soothing as this one? To find inspiration for this home’s interiors, we needed to look no further than out the windows, where mountain views greet us to the north and the ocean beckons from the south.
Paying homage to their locale, we curated a colour palette of subtle blues and grays, warm-toned woods, and natural materials, all set against a crisp, white backdrop. These help us create a seamless visual transition between the interior and exterior. Let’s start our tour in the living area…
A Cozy Living Area with Warmth & Dimension:
In the living area, the fireplace was the starting point for the design, as it determined the size of the space and the scale of our furnishings. To keep this area feeling cozy but not crowded, we selected this soft ottoman to serve as a table surface with a tray or as additional seating when Jeremy and Cynthia host guests. (Multi-purpose items are one of the 5 elements of The Simple Home.)
Additional textures — the sofa, upholstered swivel chairs, pillows, and ceramic wall art reminiscent of sand dollars — offer further depth and dimension in this simple yet layered space. The result is a cozy living room area perfect for a relaxing read on an overcast day or a social evening by the fire.
While daunting at first, this home’s small and open footprint offered a special opportunity for us to design thoughtful “zones”. To create a defined living space, we used an area rug to establish a border and situated the larger seating (the sofa) on the right. Its visual weight serves as a grounding barrier that naturally separates the living and dining areas.
Overhead, the centrally located brass and glass chandelier serves as another focal point, making the entire living area feel like one unit. Last but not least…
Styled with tall decorative lamps, this light oak and rattan console sits just behind the sofa, creating an additional visual barrier between the living and dining areas. We styled it with accessories that complement the overall palette, and it has the added benefit of providing storage right where Jeremy and Cynthia need it, the dining area.
An Art-Infused Dining Area:
The dining area is warm, woodsy, and filled with locally sourced art that Jeremy and Cynthia love. Next to the console is a custom textile piece from Vancouver artist, With Strings Attached, that mimics the scenic, mountain backdrop. The blue hues of the piece work in harmony with the warm wood dining table, cool gray upholstered chairs, and neutral stools at the kitchen bar.
On the other side of the space, is Jeremy’s and Cynthia’s favourite piece, a commissioned work of art by local maker, Katie Napier. Carefully positioned in a central location and framed by two modern sconces, this piece captures the feel of gentle waters on a misty day and evokes calm.
Other curated pieces include this rectangular vessel centrepiece by sculptural artist, Martha Sturdy, bearing a stunning moss arrangement by Soul Roots Moss Art. As this couple can attest, a treasured memento or piece of art can transform your space and your mood, transporting you to a relaxed and peaceful state.
A Bedroom Full of Light & Texture:
This beautiful bedroom is another manifestation of Jeremy and Cynthia’s favourite experiences: hiking the rainforest trails and enjoying the spray of the sea. The blue-and-green branching pattern found in the window treatments and pillows ground the space, while bright turquoise lamps — akin to sea glass — infuse the room with a touch of coastal vibrance.
Similar to the living area, we added comfort through texture and warm tones, incorporating oak end tables, natural woven wall decor above the headboard, knitted ottomans at the foot of the bed, a textured duvet, and an extra plush area rug.
A Loft Inspired by Flora & Fauna:
For the loft space, we moved away from coastal elements and decided to ground the space in the more earthy elements of nature: flora and fauna. We selected an umber-hued sofa complemented by floral decorative pillows and walls adorned with botanical prints by Heather Johnston.
This multi-purpose space serves as a reprieve for our clients to read, practice yoga, and relax. Alternatively, a Frame TV intentionally meant to blend as art allows the space to function as a secondary entertainment space or a place for their granddaughter to play and sleep over.
Praise from Our Clients:
This home’s small footprint pushed us to be more resourceful in our furniture sourcing and more creative in our space planning. The result is a home as livable, beautiful, and intentional as any larger home would be. Most importantly, Jeremy and Cynthia love it!
“Lori listened to our love of nature and designed our condo reflecting that love. It is beautiful, serene, and welcoming. We couldn't be happier.”

This main floor remodel in Lenexa, Kansas, was the third phase of a full-home transformation for our longtime clients. After previously renovating their basement and primary bathroom, they invited us back to reimagine the heart of their home with fresh perspective and elevated function.
The entryway was completely transformed from a builder-basic pass-through into a bright, welcoming focal point that sets the tone for the entire main floor. In the kitchen, we reworked the layout to improve flow and maximize storage, while introducing timeless finishes and thoughtful details that now carry throughout the home.
The family room was redesigned to feel warm, cohesive, and connected—complete with custom built-ins and a refreshed fireplace. We also converted the former laundry room into a fully functional prep kitchen, and redesigned the mudroom to meet the demands of daily life without compromising style.
This project reflects a balance of beauty, utility, and personal expression, with every space tailored to support how this family lives and gathers in their home.

This new construction project embodies a fresh and masculine aesthetic with an efficient space plan for city living. Attention to scale was especially important in this townhouse setting. We took a creative approach to maximize the benefits of the open floorplan yet still define the respective function of each area. A large scaled custom built-in anchors the lounge area while balancing the kitchen and creating an organized, beautiful home for essentials and decor.

This project features beautifully crafted cabinetry, island and tabletops by Creative Cabinet Designs LLC. The open concept allows you to entertain large groups as it seamlessly transitions from the kitchen, dining room and bar area. Appliances include a 6 burner Wolf range, Wolf M Series Ovens, Sub Zero integrated fridge and freezer columns as well as a Sharp Microwave Drawer and Scotsman ice maker. Close-by is the bar which features a Miele Coffee maker and ice maker which makes it easy to serve any kind of drink your guest would like. The spacious mud/laundry room features a Speed Queen washer Dryer set.

The Home
A charming reflection of its surroundings, the farmhouse-inspired Salida appeals to everyone from families with young children to
growing families with teenagers. The home’s well-placed rear-entry garage and oversized front porch provide a warm and welcoming
façade with contrasting board and batten details brimming with curb appeal. Inside, an entry hall flanked on either side by a private
study and powder room expands to an inviting light and bright open-concept design uniting the kitchen, dining and family rooms that
extend entertaining spaces with the adjoining patio. Alternatively, the upstairs provides family members with their own sense of space.
The tranquil owner’s retreat with owner’s bath and spacious walk-in closet is set at the rear of the home and two secondary bedrooms
flanking the full bathroom are ideally located at the front – providing the ultimate in privacy. A second-floor utility room makes laundry
day a breeze. To provide for a growing family and expand the gathering spaces, an unfinished basement offers a wealth of flexibility with the options of a fourth bedroom, third full bath and game room.

KAI also selects finishes like flooring and furnishings to create one-of-a-kind homes for buyers!
The Interior Design
The Salida’s interior design boasts an edgy sensibility with an ivory and gray color palette providing an ideal backdrop to modern decor elements. Soft gray laminate flooring is punctuated by accents of dark gray, white and navy contrasted by pops of lime green for a modern look. Glass elements throughout add to this contemporary impression. At center stage, the kitchen features two-tone cabinetry in slate gray and white complemented by white marbled quartz countertops and twilight blue glass brick-laid tile backsplash. Details like the pencil edge countertops add a modern look. The sophisticated, navy blue theme continues through several spaces, including in the owner’s retreat where pale gray brick-laid subway tile pops against the navy vertical stripe accent with glass mosaic tiles in a herringbone pattern, creating a floor-to-ceiling focal point. The secondary bathroom features a similar memory point with showstopping navy glass tile accents.

Cramped space, narrow doorways, and dated cabinets – that is what the Trupe's had.
The time was right to set a transformation in motion.
The first step was to call Amos from ALL Renovation & Design.
They had been friends for the past 20 years, thanks to a deck he had built for them.
And Amos immediately caught their vision for the kitchen.
More space.
An island for entertainment.
And a striking look.
The Trupe's dream kitchen wasn't going to be without challenges.
The door leading to the outside had to go.
But how to match the 20-year-old siding?
The narrow doorway between the kitchen and the dining room had to go too.
But what to do with the wires in the wall?
And though getting rid of the outside door and the doorway gave more room, how would an island, big enough to be useful, fit?
Space. That was the challenge.
Countless design concepts.
Countless ideas to work through.
From the beginning, Amos committed to the extra mile.
Once the island size and cabinet placement were decided, Amos’s team began work in earnest.
The custom-built oak cabinets with an espresso stain finish were the starting place for the project.
All other colors and materials were chosen to compliment the cabinetry.
Like the Daltile glazed porcelain tile floor in the Saddle Brook style and the Farmhouse color.
The backsplash proved to be a challenge. Have you ever settled on the absolutely perfect option only to find that it is forever discontinued by the manufacturer? That's what happened. Thankfully the Trupe's second choice of Anatolia Bliss Fusion Ice mosaic blended beautifully with the granite countertop.
Amazingly, the team was able to match the 20-year-old siding perfectly.
The corner cabinet took creativity as well. Cutting the corner (literally) did the trick. By adding a corner cabinet and cutting the corner of the island countertop, the Trupe's are delighted to have a usable walkway around the island.
“It sounds trivial,” Mr. Trupe remembers, but, instead of going with a plain side to the wood-work around the fridge, the ALL R&D team suggested matching the detail of the cabinet paneling: “I love it.”
Trivial? Not at all. That is part of making your dreams even better in reality.

The new dining room uses chairs from the client’s previous home, and they are from the same set that we used in her updated kitchen. Their elegant frames pair wonderfully with the more understated table, and keeping the lines simple allows the eye to focus on the mirrored wall hanging, which is a stunner and also brought in from the previous home. Set high in the hills of Sherman Oaks, this creative patio enclosure takes full advantage of Tesselle’s small-format breeze blocks to blend structure with style. The homeowner opted for a mix of geometric patterns in white and grey, creating a dynamic border wall that adds character without overwhelming the natural surroundings.
Mounted atop a smooth concrete base, the breeze blocks offer subtle privacy while allowing light and air to pass freely—ideal for Southern California’s climate. The varied designs introduce visual rhythm, complementing both the home’s mid-century roofline and the lush hillside garden below.
This installation shows how breeze blocks can do more than separate spaces—they can define them with detail, texture, and thoughtful design.

Amber works from home and was sacrificing a dining room for her home office. By utilizing the double wide closet space in her guest bedroom, she now walks into her home without the reminder of work, and can have guests over for a meal in her dining room (dining room reveal coming soon). The walls were freshly painted Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. This gives the room a fresh, clean look and also adds contrast to the beige carpet.
Amber had her homework assignments cut out for her as she had to do some major purging in her throw all guest room. Once she started letting go, she was on a roll and continually surprised me as she cleaned out closets throughout the house. One dresser was filled with cds, dvds, books, albums, scrap-booking materials; items taking up precious real estate in her life that she didn't even know were there. There really wasn't a storage problem after-all, she was just holding on to a collection of things that no longer served her. Each time I would visit, and her space would become more open, I could see the weight lifting off her and her self love building. Amber had a recent breakup with her boyfriend and this makeover helped her not only focus on making a home sanctuary for herself, but helped her let go of the pains of the past and focus on the exciting future ahead. At one point when we were moving sofas in the living room (which we will also reveal soon), we found an ex's flip-flop. We were figuratively and literally sweeping away the past. Editing your home and your life makes room for your future; for new people and things. We are so happy to finally reveal the room to you! We can't wait to unveil the rest of Amber's home, once we complete the finishing touches.
Challenges:
Amber's home was filled with mix-matched furniture from family and college. She had no idea what her decorating style was. After shopping together and exchanging somepinterest boards, I was finally able to get a sense of what she loves.
I had to work on a tight budget, which meant really digging out the creativity and utilizing other items in the home. See how I transformed a table from the discard pile into a faux marble bedside table by clicking web link.
Amber's dad was able to help with the desk materials and building to cut costs.
We wanted to save the closet doors in the event she sold her home or no longer needed an office someday. There wasn't any extra space to store these closet doors, so I used them as a headboard.
The only items purchased were: Curtains, Curtain Rod, Bedspread Set, Throw Pillows, 2 Lamps and Paint.
