Our clients worked with Light And Dwell to realize their vision to update their 90's home. The moulding, cabinets and living space were very dark and made the space feel small. We worked with Molly and Amy at L&D to renovate the kitchen, replace the flooring, and re-finish the handrail. New linen and laundry room cabinets, new disc lights in the living room, and new painted moulding make this house feel fresh and beautiful. Peg and Randy had a wonderful experience working with APlus and were impressed with the incredible workmanship that went into the remodel. Seating for 6, coming right up! A total reconfiguration of this space afforded the clients to realize their dream kitchen! An entertainer's delight and also perfect for the day to day. So easy, so fun and such a statement! "We couldn't be happier; our new kitchen is beyond our wildest dreams and certainly more than we expected!" exclaimed the clients. "We created such a beautiful kitchen in harmony with the client's vision- making sure that every detail was accounted for, and every wish list item was checked." stated Bruce Roth, Sycamore Kitchens & More owner. The client wanted to change their partially finished basement from an indoor play area for their children and pets to a club like atmosphere where they could entertain in the winter months, enjoy watching sports and share their favorite hobby, tasting wine. The design was realized by integrating a natural jog in the exterior wall which provided the perfect spot to recess the back-bar area, a television and lighted shelves to display liquor. The lighted shelving creates a cool illumination which adds to the club vibe. Tall illuminated glass door cabinets display glasses and bar ware. Under the counter you will find a dishwasher, sink, ice maker and liquor storage. The front bar contains an undercounter refrigerator, built in garbage/ recycle center and more custom storage for cases of beer, soda and mixers. A raised waterfall countertop has seating for six. High top tables add to the club feel and can be combined for communal style tastings. For the client’s extensive wine collection, a walk-in wine cellar anchors the bar. Glass panels showcase the bottles and illuminate the space with soft dramatic lighting. Extra high ceiling heights allowed for a dropped soffit around the bar for recessed lighting and created a tray ceiling to highlight the custom chrome and crystal light fixture

Basement Bar Dream Realized! Our clients can entertain guests and family members in this modern space by getting behind the beautiful two-level full bar with shaker style front panels and create any drink recipe - both new and the old favorites - secretly. Guests can climb into the comfortable leather bar-stool-style chairs at the bar's 42" height and clearly see the stone accent wall with mounted cabinets and open thick-glass shelving but not the drinks being prepared by the host. They can relax and lean on the glossy white and gray quartz counter top while casually enjoying the present company. The strategically placed lighting under the bar and in the wall-mounted black painted cabinets, along with the recessed lights and decorative hanging light fixtures, help the space to feel light and cozy. The additional of light neutral paints with dark accents help to stabilize the mood - not to mention the vinyl light wood-styled flooring found throughout the basement.

This kitchen design in Bowie, MD achieved a striking style with two-toned kitchen cabinets. To achieve this custom look and realize the client's design vision we incorporated two different cabinet lines, with Koch Classic "Bristol" in Oyster on the perimeter and HomeCrest "Bexley" in Cadet for the island, both on maple wood. An Olympus quartz "Fortuna" premium countertop complements the white cabinetry, while a Sapele mahogany wood top beautifully accents the blue island. The backsplash at the sink and range wall is Eclipse Grey Wave 4 x 12 glossy glass subway tile, which provides a striking contrast to the white perimeter color palette. The island includes seating with upholstered chairs in a complementary color scheme. A stainless apron front sink pairs perfectly with the Brizo "Tresa" two handled faucet in polished nickel. GE stainless appliances feature throughout the kitchen design, along with a built in microwave and a Brizo pot filler faucet. Beyond the main kitchen cabinets, the design includes a built-in desk with storage. A beverage station with an undercounter beverage refrigerator also incorporates a wine rack, wine glass storage, and narrow glass front cabinets with in cabinet lighting.

The backyard has two barbecue's. One adjacent to the residence for daily use and a full entertaining barbecue area with a bar, sink, ice maker, refrigerator, outdoor dishwasher (so you don't need to carry all of your dishes so far from the house each time you entertain...all you have to do is push 'wash') and of course a large 'Q' with side burner. All of the Ashlar pattern cut stone was cut on site to my pattern, as was the entertaining barbecue back-splash. The Oceanside glass tile was selected to continue the Ashlar pattern concept. All of the pottery came from my friends at Eye of the Day. Gas heaters warm the patios from the covers, as well as, strategically placed gas quick connects around the yard for those chilly evenings. Music fills the yard and patios from discretely placed outdoor speakers. All of my projects are design with full supervision from start to finish. DOWNLOAD NOW   This Glen Ellyn homeowner came to us, frustrated with the layout and size of their current kitchen, looking for help generating ideas for how to maximize functionality within the constraints of the space. After visiting with them and seeing the home’s layout, I realized that looking at the bigger picture of how they used the entire first floor might bring us some dramatic solutions. We ended up flipping the kitchen and family room and taking down the wall separating the two creating one big open floor plan for the family to enjoy. There is still a visual separation between the rooms because of their different lengths and the overall space now relates nicely to the dining room which was also opened up to both rooms. The new kitchen is an L-shaped space that is no longer cramped and small and is truly a cook’s dream. The fridge is on one end, a large cooktop and sink are located along the main perimeter and double ovens located at the end of the “L” complete the layout. Ample work surface along the perimeter and on the large island makes entertaining a breeze. An existing door to the patio remains, floods the room with light and provides easy access to the existing outdoor deck for entertaining and grilling. White cabinetry with quartz countertops, Carrera marble backsplash tile and a contrasting gray island give the space a clean and modern feel. The gray pendant lights and stainless appliances bring a slight industrial feel to the space letting you know that some serious cooking will take place here. Once we had their Dream Kitchen design completed, the homeowners decided to tackle another project at the same time. We made plans to create a master suite upstairs by combining two existing bedrooms into a larger bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet. The existing spaces were not overly large so getting everything on the wish list into the design was a challenge. In the end, we came up with a design that works. The two bedrooms were adjoined, one wall moved back slightly to make for a slightly larger bedroom, and the remaining space was allotted to the new bathroom and a walk in closet. The bathroom consists of a double vanity and a large shower with a barn door shower door. A skylight brings light into the space and helps make it feel larger and more open. The new walk-in closet is accessible through the bathroom, and we even managed to fit in a small entry vestibule that houses some additional storage and makes a nice transition from the hallway. A white vanity, Carrera tops and gray floor tile make for a serene space that feels just right for this home. Our client was a family with younger children that came to us through the recommendations of former customers. Their existing house had been remodeled by them 10 years earlier and was well-suited to the married couple. With the addition of two younger children, they realized that the house just didn’t function very well for their family. Fortunately, the husband and wife took their time thinking about what they wanted, and by the time they met with us, had their needs well laid out. We brought in local Architect, James Stroupe, and recommended him to the client as a collaborative professional who could help us achieve their goals. This proved to be the case. Jim quickly produced design drawings for them within six weeks that clearly reflected all of the client’s needs and preferences while at the same time dramatically re-creating the home in a beautiful contemporary design. The new home required a complete reconstruction of the existing house that left only one bathroom unaltered. New square footage was added at the lower level to expand and reconfigure the living area, while an entirely new upstairs wing was constructed to create space for a new master suite with views out toward the ocean. The entire roof was rebuilt, all new windows and interior doors were added and the full exterior received a new modern looking stucco finish. Stainless steel cable railings were added to the decks to create an updated look, and fine hardwood accents were used to pull the design together. Our efforts produced a new three bedroom, three bath home with a large and inviting ground floor patio area, wide open living areas on the first floor with new kitchen, bathroom and dining room. The photographs in this section show the striking results- clean lines, dramatic architectural touches, and light, open and airy interior spaces. Our client was very pleased with the results.

DOWNLOAD NOW   This client came to us in a bit of a panic when she realized that she really wanted her bathroom to be updated by March 1st due to having 2 daughters getting married in the spring and one graduating. We were only about 5 months out from that date, but decided we were up for the challenge. The beautiful historical home was built in 1896 by an ornithologist (bird expert), so we took our cues from that as a starting point. The flooring is a vintage basket weave of marble and limestone, the shower walls of the tub shower conversion are clad in subway tile with a vintage feel. The lighting, mirror and plumbing fixtures all have a vintage vibe that feels both fitting and up to date. To give a little of an eclectic feel, we chose a custom green paint color for the linen cabinet, mushroom paint for the ship lap paneling that clads the walls and selected a vintage mirror that ties in the color from the existing door trim. We utilized some antique trim from the home for the wainscot cap for more vintage flavor. The drama in the bathroom comes from the wallpaper and custom shower curtain, both in William Morris’s iconic “Strawberry Thief” print that tells the story of thrushes stealing fruit, so fitting for the home’s history. There is a lot of this pattern in a very small space, so we were careful to make sure the pattern on the wallpaper and shower curtain aligned. A sweet little bird tie back for the shower curtain completes the story...
