Entertaining and bringing people together is what this family is all about. Birthdays involve amazing cakes like you see on those TV shows, and groups of 30 people or more. Their ideal kitchen needed to accommodate that level of baking and hosting, but also support the daily rhythms of life.
Our collaborative design was guided by Vastu Shastra, an ancient architectural tradition that predates feng shui. Based on Vedic traditions that harmonize human behavior with natural forces in the world, Vastu Shanstra basically suggests how to inhabit a place in the best way possible.
The objectives were:
-Relocate the entire kitchen so the home’s heat source (oven) is in the southeast
-Incorporate symmetry into the overall design
-Create a large space for entertaining – open and airy with lots of light
-Simultaneously separate but join cooking and gathering spaces, allowing the cook to have a cook-specific zone that is still a part of any gathering
-Individual storage for small appliances – making them easier to use
-Simplicity – the space should be easy to use and maintain
Design challenges we solved for:
-Incorporate three load bearing points of the house
-Provide structural support that was not obvious
-Reconfigure kitchen utilities to another part of the home
-Maximize storage space
Design solutions and mindful innovations became an exciting motivation that drove the project:
-Double-horseshoe design features two symmetrical islands that seat 18 people comfortably
-Downdraft ventilation behind rangetop allows unobstructed views
-Overhead beams for structural support
-Equip nearby dining room with locking bar and wine cabinet
-Roll-out appliance shelves on back of cooking island are powered for easy use
-Symmetrical fridge and freezer columns separated by oven
-Cabinets along back of the cooking area for everyday items
-Tall pantry cabinet has four drawers for paperwork
-Spacious walk-in storage pantry has a counter with power outlets
-Coffee station has a trash can directly below for easy clean up
-Two sinks and dishwashers for easy cleanup
“A lot of relationships are built over food,” the homeowner told us. “This [kitchen] keeps our family close because we all love food. My kids sit in the kitchen all evening long every day – and I’m right there cooking. That’s life –to be together.”
We also collaborated with the homeowners to remodel their primary bathroom, primary bedroom closet and an additional bathroom.

Had the opportunity to work on the beautiful home of Joey McIntyre.
Project featured in Variety, "Originally designed by celebrated architect Paul Williams and extensively updated and renovated to combine period architectural details with a modern-day lifestyle, the approximately 4,300-square-foot East Coast traditional has four bedrooms and four full and two half bathrooms plus a detached cottage with another bathroom for guests or staff. A slender center hall foyer features polished grey and white checkerboard marble floor tiles and a tightly curved staircase; the formal living room has a fireplace and floor-to-ceiling bay window that looks out to the verdant front yard; a library opens through transom-topped French doors to the backyard; and a chandelier lit formal dining room comfortably seats ten or twelve. An open-plan wing behind the dining room includes a spacious and well-equipped eat-in kitchen with five-stool snack bar integrated into a double wide island and, beyond that, a cozily proportioned TV-room with pilaster-accented fireplace and French door access to the yard. Two guest or family bedrooms share a hall bathroom on the second floor while a third guest/family bedroom has its own bathroom plus French doors to a slim balcony shared with the master bedroom that offers up a fireplace, walk-in closet and a spacious, marble-tiled bathroom with claw-footed soaking tub, steam shower and French doors that open to a Juliet balcony."

A spacious kitchen with a large island as the focal point, complemented by elegant pendant lighting and ample counter space. The open design and high-quality materials provide a perfect setting for both cooking and socializing.

Like the island, this peninsula is two-tiered, with a raised edge for eating and pulling up bar stools. There is lots of room in this kitchen for family and friends to join around. Beautiful granite countertops in Arctic Cream with a nice eased edge. Clean lines in this remodeled kitchen, with plenty of light from the windows and the skylight, make the space bright and cheery.

This inviting kitchen renovation balances classic craftsmanship with fresh, transitional style. Our clients loved the timeless bones of their home but were ready for a space that felt brighter, more functional, and infused with personality. We kept the original cabinetry layout, refinishing the perimeter in a soft, creamy hue that instantly brightened the room, then introduced a rich green island to anchor the space and bring warmth and contrast.
A glossy handmade Zellige tile backsplash adds depth and subtle color variation, complementing the mixed metal details throughout—from the brass hardware to the black-and-brass statement lighting. The large island now serves as the heart of the kitchen with updated seating, a spacious quartz countertop and plenty of room for gathering.
To enhance functionality, we transformed an unused wall into a hardworking home office nook featuring floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, floating shelves, and a mosaic tile that adds texture without overwhelming the space.
Natural wood floors and organic touches round out the design, creating a kitchen that feels both elevated and deeply livable—perfect for cooking, entertaining, and everyday family life.

"This beautiful design started with a clean open slate and lots of design opportunities. The homeowner was looking for a large oversized spacious kitchen designed for easy meal prep for multiple cooks and room for entertaining a large oversized family.
The architect’s plans had a single island with large windows on both main walls. The one window overlooked the unattractive side of a neighbor’s house while the other was not large enough to see the beautiful large back yard. The kitchen entry location made the mudroom extremely small and left only a few design options for the kitchen layout. The almost 14’ high ceilings also gave lots of opportunities for a unique design, but care had to be taken to still make the space feel warm and cozy.
After drawing four design options, one was chosen that relocated the entry from the mudroom, making the mudroom a lot more accessible. A prep island across from the range and an entertaining island were included. The entertaining island included a beverage refrigerator for guests to congregate around and to help them stay out of the kitchen work areas. The small island appeared to be floating on legs and incorporates a sink and single dishwasher drawer for easy clean up of pots and pans.
The end result was a stunning spacious room for this large extended family to enjoy."

When your home is a go-to spot for the neighbourhood you need a kitchen that can keep up. The first step was overhauling the floor plan. We flipped the kitchen from the small dark side of the house to the opposite side of the house giving us the increased light & square footage. A a spacious island and large kitchen table (a refinished piece from the client’s grandmother), large-plank hardwood floors, custom seating, and statement light fixtures make this a gathering spot for the ages.

This spacious kitchen in Westchester County is flooded with light from huge windows on 3 sides of the kitchen plus two skylights in the vaulted ceiling. The dated kitchen was gutted and reconfigured to accommodate this large kitchen with crisp white cabinets and walls. Ship lap paneling on both walls and ceiling lends a casual-modern charm while stainless steel toe kicks, walnut accents and Pietra Cardosa limestone bring both cool and warm tones to this clean aesthetic. Designer Janet Villafane of Villafane Design, LLC of Chester, New Jersey designed and executed this contemporary kitchen with Aston Smith of Bilotta Kitchens of New York. According to Villafane, “from the moment you meet this family you understand their priority in life is family and friends. We were looking for a design that, first and foremost, emphasized the occupants’ request to have a home that was inviting to all that entered. We continued to focus on that request throughout the design phase.” In addition, the design team needed to satisfy the needs of a disabled family member. They wanted him to be able to flow through all areas of the space and feel as if he could comfortably use the open kitchen and family room without any hindrance.
The clients were inspired by clean lines and simplicity. When they spoke about their modern Florida home, one could hear and see their enthusiasm and excitement to bring that simplicity into their new home. It became evident early on that their new space should be contemporary but the home’s exterior, as well as the neighboring community, had an old world, traditional charm. The goal was to avoid competing aesthetics while respecting both looks. The resulting interior design incorporated slab doors with both semi-gloss white lacquer and grey stain on horizontal grained oak. The rich dark oak base cabinets perfectly balanced the ceiling beams. The use of a stainless channel system, in place of traditional hardware, and the stainless toe kick completed the design. The Bertazzoni cooktop and wall ovens in stainless steel, Sub-Zero refrigeration paneled in white semi-gloss, and a stainless steel chimney hood enhanced the clean, uninterrupted lines. The island countertop is Thunder White granite in a leathered finish; the perimeter is Super White Quartz; and the nook table is Virginia Mist honed granite. The backsplash is a frosted glass tile.
The clients hope for quality, simplicity and functionality were beautifully achieved by the designers. Closed, solid front cabinets provide a “home” for everything in the kitchen. A seating nook with a large screen TV, as well as additional TVs visible throughout the kitchen and family room, satisfied the demand of watching multiple sporting events at one time. To finish it all off decorative lighting was carefully selected to make a “wow” statement.
