This Paradise Model ATU is extra tall and grand! As you would in you have a couch for lounging, a 6 drawer dresser for clothing, and a seating area and closet that mirrors the kitchen. Quartz countertops waterfall over the side of the cabinets encasing them in stone. The custom kitchen cabinetry is sealed in a clear coat keeping the wood tone light. Black hardware accents with contrast to the light wood. A main-floor bedroom- no crawling in and out of bed. The wallpaper was an owner request; what do you think of their choice?
The bathroom has natural edge Hawaiian mango wood slabs spanning the length of the bump-out: the vanity countertop and the shelf beneath. The entire bump-out-side wall is tiled floor to ceiling with a diamond print pattern. The shower follows the high contrast trend with one white wall and one black wall in matching square pearl finish. The warmth of the terra cotta floor adds earthy warmth that gives life to the wood. 3 wall lights hang down illuminating the vanity, though durning the day, you likely wont need it with the natural light shining in from two perfect angled long windows.
This Paradise model was way customized. The biggest alterations were to remove the loft altogether and have one consistent roofline throughout. We were able to make the kitchen windows a bit taller because there was no loft we had to stay below over the kitchen. This ATU was perfect for an extra tall person. After editing out a loft, we had these big interior walls to work with and although we always have the high-up octagon windows on the interior walls to keep thing light and the flow coming through, we took it a step (or should I say foot) further and made the french pocket doors extra tall. This also made the shower wall tile and shower head extra tall. We added another ceiling fan above the kitchen and when all of those awning windows are opened up, all the hot air goes right up and out.

This project on the north side of Ann Arbor spanned 3 floors. The basement was remodeled to include an additional guest bedroom and family room and update a current bathroom and guest room. On the main floor, the kitchen got an overhaul, as did the front entry; going from an open ceiling to a closed 2nd floor above the entry. On the 2nd floor, we reconfigured the entry to the master suite, changed the solarium (previous orchid room) to a reading / library area with tall windows overlooking the backyard and closed the open balcony looking over the front entry to built in bookshelves.

This home had a difficult layout as far as being able to design fireplace built-ins that would create some kind of symmetry from side to side. Included in that weirdness was the space to the right of the fireplace that had a short zero-degree wall and then a long wall going off at 45 degrees. Instead of building two sections staying flat to those two walls, we decided to span the space and leave a dead space behind. Other requirements were to fit the existing tv plus leave a little room for some expansion later, plus provide storage space for a large collection of scrapbooks. Also, on the left, the customer not liking the idea of dividing the drawers up into two at each level, required using heavy-duty drawer slides to accommodate the extra-wide drawer boxes. Also note the two HVAC (floor) registers within the trim box on the top of the left unit (Required because there was an existing vent in that ceiling corner.

Spanning three levels, this elegant modern staircase transforms light into a design element. Suspended by open risers, the dark wood treads appear to float between floors as natural light cascades from the top floor windows down through the entire stairwell. The horizontal stainless steel rods create clean, uninterrupted sightlines while emphasizing the architectural volume beneath the landings. The result is a vertical journey defined by transparency and light.

Medallion brand cabinetry in white chocolate spans the walls and touches the ceiling in this kitchen. The mosaic stripe in the subway tile backsplash adds a surprising design element. Converting a peninsula to a free-standing island with a granite countertop and a white farmhouse sink creates a beautiful focal point.

This was a collaboration spanning a few years. The Client had already remodeled the spaces by the time I came in to furnish and finesse. They took a generic ranch style home and modernized it for their lifestyle. The asks were for cool, collected, color, and nothing "off the shelf". The results are a sophisticated and artful personal point of view, timeless, yet forward thinking, full of Vintage Finds, Carefully curated art and fabulous textiles.Kathryn MacDonald Photography

History:
Client was given a property, that was extremely difficult to build on, with a very steep, 25-30' drop. They tried to sell the property for many years, with no luck. They finally decided that they should build something on it, for themselves, to prove it could be done. No access was allowed at the top of the steep incline. Client assumed it would be an expensive foundation built parallel to the hillside, somehow.
Program:
The program involved a level for one floor living, (LR/DR/KIT/MBR/UTILITY) as an age-in-place for this recently retired couple. Any other levels should have additional bedrooms that could also feel like a separate AirBnB space, or allow for a future caretaker. There was also a desire for a garage with a recreational vehicle and regular car. The main floor should take advantage of the primary views to the southwest, even though the lot faces due west. Also a desire for easy access to an upper level trail and low maintenance materials with easy maintenance access to roof. The preferred style was a fresher, contemporary feel.
Solution:
A concept design was presented, initially desired by the client, parallel to the hillside, as they had originally envisioned.
An alternate idea was also presented, that was perpendicular to the steep hillside. This avoided having difficult foundations on the steep hillside, by spanning... over it. It also allowed the top, main floor to be farther out on the west end of the site to avoid neighboring view blockage & to better see the primary southwest view. Savings in foundation costs allowed the installation of a residential elevator to get from the garage to the top, main living level. Stairs were also available for regular exercise. An exterior deck was angled towards the primary SW view to the San Juan Islands. The roof was originally desired to be a hip style on all sides, but a better solution allowed for a simple slope back to the 10' high east side for easier maintenance & access, since the west side was almost 50' high!
The clients undertook this home as a speculative, temporary project, intending for it to add value, to sell. However, the unexpected solution, and experience in living here, has them wanting to stay forever.

The transformation features a dramatic shift in palette and architecture, replacing the traditional tan-and-taupe exterior with a modern and sophisticated deep blue clapboard and matching brick facade. The central element of the renovation is the significant extension of the new wide porch, which is now supported by larger, square white columns on brick piers, spanning the full width of the main house to create a true outdoor room with distinct zones for dining and lounging. A new charcoal grey roof and warm, contemporary front doors with horizontal glass panels perfectly complement the bold color choice, while integrated recess lighting provides a welcoming glow, beautifully highlighting the home's texture and new details as evening sets.

The Rustic Leather Railing features the leather Spiral Warp and spans three floors in this beautiful mountain home, separated on the landings with custom removable baby gates. Steel balusters and gates are finished in Random Black Veil patina and a leather wrapped railing brings a warmth to this rustic set of stairs. The railing is designed with custom corners and angles to fit the flow of the staircase.

Tuscany inspiration is blooming in this Novi, MI finished basement! The span of the basement is very much open in the layout. We love how the posts are incorporated into a bar top behind the couch. It's a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of red wine during a premiere without the fear of spilling on your couch! The details lay in the built in cabinets, archways, and gorgeous wrought iron doors who open to a custom wine cabinet. By Majestic Home Solutions, LLC.
