Nar Design GroupHaving designed the kitchen in their previous home (see Davis Rockwell Kitchen) - which they loved for many years – this couple came back to us with one main request, to design a similar but more upscale interpretation for their new home.
As with the previous kitchen, the clients wanted an open space for entertaining and dedicated areas to showcase their large collection of art pieces. The existing builder grade kitchen didn’t fit their personal style or wish list.
Knowing that the client’s intention was for this house to be their forever home, it was vital to give them a design that worked well now as well as for future needs. Knowing they love to entertain, we recommended a 5’ Galley Workstation for its flexibility to serve a variety of tasks from everyday wash station to party central with just a quick change of accessories. Located in the heart of the home, the kitchen is visible from all angles and needed to present a clean, flush look with the cabinets and appliances.
Special features include LED strip lighting in the upper niche cabinets to highlight special art pieces. Beautiful walnut panels wrap the cabinetry and serve a dual purpose around the fold-up wall cabinets by the cooktop; they provide just enough depth for custom spice shelves. Mitered edges on counter tops and continuous vertical wood grain drawer fronts are upscale details.

Sandra Curtis Design, LLCThis client asked me to provide them with ample storage in their ski vacation condo's kitchen. I wanted to take advantage of the end wall to maximize the countertop and give them more storage with a cabinet under the new range that is 92" wide. Even though the cabinet is well supported, the cabinet opening has no center divider which would hinder any individual seeking out pots and kettles from below. The other elements fell into logical places including a generous pantry to the right of the refrigerator.
In trying to maintain the sleek look of the backsplash, I worked diligently with the electrician to avoid outlets in the backsplash area as much as possible using Task Lighting's angled power strips. I love working with the outlet strips that tuck up under the cabinetry; they are brilliantly discreet.
One of the special elements in this kitchen is the log pedestal base under the cantilevered bar top that is a continuation of the cap on the half wall. This log is from my neighbor's tree which they were cutting down in perfect timing with this renovation. Other components from this same tree are incorporated elsewhere in the condo. Signature KitchensA palette of cottage white and wood mixes easily with midcentury modern style and function. Drawers, specialized for utensils, cookware, and tasks. Tiled panels flanking the stove slide sideways to reveal a spice storage and TV; above, quarter-sawn oak cabinets hide additional storage. Brass and bronze pendants cast their light on leathered granite countertops and wood-look concrete dining surface, crafted in metal, doubles as a modernistic sculpture.
The Diminutive Pantry
This diminutive walk-in pantry performs myriad tasks in singular style. Behind its mullioned-glass door, red lacquered walls draw the eye in and up. Inside, one finds a wine bar, coffee station, wall storage, lighted shelving, and generously-sized drawers conveniently lit from within. A sturdy walnut countertop handles tasks and the easy-to-clean subway tile backsplash makes this pantry a true workplace.

Plain & PoshThis home’s kitchen isn’t large and needed to somehow hold a mudroom area as the detached garage enters into the space. I carefully planned out all storage needs and we were able to add a wide, double door cabinet closet by the back door. The upper area holds coats and clutter. The lower doors have hooks and boot trays for backpacks and shoes. Paneling the Subzero fridge helps with softening the weight of the large appliance, as does the panel on the dishwasher. Little details like the skirt on the toe area and the beautiful hood and island posts make this smaller work space truly special!

UserThis is a 3rd floor attic that is used for an office, playroom, media room, etc. The light that comes pouring into these strategically planned dormers allows you to have natural light all day long, although we love the Juno low voltage track lights to do specially task work when needed. Plenty of built in storage keep things off the ground and in their place. Plan ahead and you can have great storage too.

DANIELLE Interior Design & DecorTransforming this small bathroom into a wheelchair accessible retreat was no easy task. Incorporating unattractive grab bars and making them look seamless was the goal. A floating vanity / countertop allows for roll up accessibility and the live edge of the granite countertops make if feel luxurious. Double sinks for his and hers sides plus medicine cabinet storage helped for this minimal feel of neutrals and breathability. The barn door opens for wheelchair movement but can be closed for the perfect amount of privacy.
