Mountain Peek is a custom residence located within the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana. The layout of the home was heavily influenced by the site. Instead of building up vertically the floor plan reaches out horizontally with slight elevations between different spaces. This allowed for beautiful views from every space and also gave us the ability to play with roof heights for each individual space. The goal for the owners of this Blue Ridge home was to remodel their traditional Blue Ridge home to open up rooms to improve flow and update the finishes. The separate formal living room was a rarely used space so the wall between living and family rooms was opened up and the stairwell was updated to transform how the family use these rooms. The doorway from the entry to the kitchen was also opened up to welcome guests into the heart of the home. The existing dated and inefficient kitchen was redesigned to include a large island with dining, light filled sink area and decorative hood at the range. A tall pantry cabinet and additional mud room cabinets were installed to provide storage for this busy family. The new kitchen is bright and modern with white Columbia cabinetry complimented by a dark wood island. The Pental quartz countertops feature a light marble design and the soft grey backsplash completes this kitchen transformation. The tiny powder room received a face lift with a custom shallow vanity that is big on style. The existing living room fireplace, which was too large and out of scale with the space, was updated with new tile and painted wood surround. Through a little detective work and some creative ingenuity, we restored and enhanced the exterior to it’s former glory and transformed the interior to a highly efficient and functional home all the while uplifting its quaint cottage charm. On the exterior, we recreated a wonderful, airy front porch with cozy bench seats that look out to the water. The white cedar shingle siding is pre-bleached with a subtle flair at the bottom and a delicate break at mid-elevation. The asphalt shingles are not only beautifully matched with the siding, but offer superior reflective qualities to dissipate the heat of the summer sun. On the interior, we joined the front seasonal porch with the family room to form a larger, open living and dining space with paneled walls and ceilings anchored by the original round stone fireplace. In the rear, we carefully crafted a galley kitchen and laundry space with an adjacent first floor master suite. The diminutive house and property posed multiple practical and regulatory challenges which were overcome by a strong team effort, due diligence, and a commitment to the process. John R. Lauren Hunt from Reico Kitchen and Bath in Charlotte, NC, worked with The Atta Group to design a transitional-inspired kitchen and bar using Masterpiece cabinetry. The kitchen features Masterpiece cabinets in the Martel Evercore doorstyle in a Frost finish on the perimeter. The kitchen island and bar area both features the same doorstyle with a combination of two different finishes, Riverbed and Shortbread. The countertops are Calacatta Macchia Vecchia Sapien Stone Porcelain. The client shared their experience, saying, “I love the range hood and the slatted island decor. Riverbed is a beautiful color in both sun and shade. Lauren’s advice to get samples and lay them out in different lighting was invaluable. She went above and beyond, even coming out in the parking lot on a hot summer day to help us. We truly couldn’t have done this without her. Lauren was always patient and supportive as we made decisions, and she never pressured us. Any future projects we have, we’ll 100% reach out to Lauren. She even welcomed our newborn to the showroom!” Lauren shared, “The clients came with a clear aesthetic vision and plenty of inspiration photos, but they gave me the freedom to recommend and create a space that worked for their growing family while still looking great. We added design details like two-toned dining room cabinets, dark accent shelves in glass towers, an arched valance to match the doorways, and a custom hood that pulls from the island finishes. My favorite element is the slatted accent on the island, which the installers executed perfectly. This renovation was a big project, starting with a blank slate, which can be overwhelming with so many options. But it was incredibly rewarding to work with these clients who had such a creative vision. We really worked together to create a space that met their needs while showcasing their style. Inspiration for a transitional white two-story house exterior remodel in Nashville with a mixed material roof

This home addition didn't go according to plan... and that's a good thing. Here's why. Family is really important to the Nelson's. But the small kitchen and living room in their 30 plus-year-old house meant crowded holidays for all the children and grandchildren. It was easy to see that a major home remodel was needed. The problem was the Nelson's didn't know anyone who had a great experience with a builder. The Nelson's connected with ALL Renovation & Design at a home show in York, PA, but it wasn't until after sitting down with several builders and going over preliminary designs that it became clear that Amos listened and cared enough to guide them through the project in a way that would achieve their goals perfectly. So work began on a new addition with a “great room” and a master bedroom with a master bathroom. That's how it started. But the project didn't go according to plan. Why? Because Amos was constantly asking, “What would make you 100% satisfied.” And he meant it. For example, when Mrs. Nelson realized how much she liked the character of the existing brick chimney, she didn't want to see it get covered up. So plans changed mid-stride. But we also realized that the brick wouldn't fit with the plan for a stone fireplace in the new family room. So plans changed there as well, and brick was ordered to match the chimney. It was truly a team effort that produced a beautiful addition that is exactly what the Nelson's wanted... or as Mrs. Nelson said, “...even better, more beautiful than we envisioned.” For Christmas, the Nelson's were able to have the entire family over with plenty of room for everyone. Just what they wanted. The outside of the addition features GAF architectural shingles in Pewter, Certainteed Mainstreet D4 Shiplap in light maple, and color-matching bricks. Inside the great room features the Armstrong Prime Harvest Oak engineered hardwood in a natural finish, Masonite 6-panel pocket doors, a custom sliding pine barn door, and Simonton 5500 series windows. The master bathroom cabinetry was made to match the bedroom furniture set, with a cultured marble countertop from Countertec, and tile flooring.

This project wasn't just the ultimate in creating an open concept home -- it was a great team building exercise as well. This massive effort couldn't have succeeded without the contributions of everyone involved, and with a project of this scale it takes the entire team to get every last detail correct from start to finish. I particularly enjoyed the structural feat of making a massive 20' tall load bearing wall completely disappear and then seeing the impact natural light can have in an open area. Sustainable Design Meets Smart Technology This home featured a request from the client to use as many environmentally friendly materials and fabrics as possible. Many common shade manufacturers use materials with PVC plastic, which is known for off-gassing hazardous chemicals that linger in the air in the home for years. The main floor roller shades met the client’s request for an eco-friendly fabric by utilizing motorized shades with GreenScreen fabric. In other rooms, the designer and client wanted the classic look and soft fabrics with roman shades and drapery tracks on several windows in the house. By partnering with the interior designer and fabric workroom, we were able to provide a custom solution for motorization of roman shades and drapery. Lighting Control The client is able control all of the lighting and window treatments in the house with a single control system. This eliminates the need for extra devices on the wall or remote controls that clutter up the space and get lost. By utilizing the custom window treatments, the house is able to conserve energy by keeping the house warmer in the winter, and cooler in the summer by providing insulation and blocking sunlight. The lighting control system further helps to conserve energy by beautifully dimming LED lights as well as using quick buttons that turn off all of the lights in the house, or un-occupied rooms, with the press of a single button. Motorized Window Treatments Motorized window treatments add a high level of convenience to any project, especially those with many windows in hard to reach places. The challenge with many manufacturers is a limitation of style and fabric selection, some may be a s basic as only roller shades. Often times these come with un-reliable, wireless controls. On this Birmingham, MI project completed in March 2019, we partnered with the interior designer and drapery workroom to provide a truly unique solution. The homeowner and designer’s requests included many different styles of window treatments including rollers shades, roman shades and motorized draperies. Typically, this would result in a collection of various shade manufacturers with unsightly remotes scattered across each room or stuck to the wall for control. Utilizing standard offerings, coupled with an incredible team effort by the designer and drapery workroom, we provided all of the requested styles of window treatments, and were able to control them all on a single system. This means that each room has a single, elegant keypad built into the wall that controls not only the window treatments, but the lighting as well. When leaving/entering the home, all of the window coverings can be raised or lowered with a single button press. Shades and draperies can also be set to operate based on the time of day for automatic day-to-day operation using sunlight as a guide. In the end, we achieved convenience, function and sophisticated style.
