Designed by Paula Truchon of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Frederick, MD this bathroom is a Reico Kitchen & Bath turnkey remodeling project in collaboration with EPIC Kitchen & Bath. A success in the words of the client, this bathroom remodeling project was a true team effort. “Paula spent a lot of time with us and provided great advice on the design. Alece really ensured the project kept moving and was brought to closure.” The bathroom design is a transitional style that features Ultracraft Cabinetry and framed mirrors in Andover Cherry Porcini. The bathroom also features a Kohler white shower base, Kohler Caxton under mount sinks and Moen Voss polished chrome plumbing and accessories. A Kohler HydroRail in the shower provides versatility via the stationary showerhead or handheld shower in a small and cost effective footprint. A Kohler Levity frameless barn door style bypass door encloses the shower yet allows visibility of the beautiful tile surround. Tile selections include 12x24 Emil Eterna Natural Avorio floor tile installed in a diagonal subway pattern, 12x24 EGE Semik Arya White for the shower walls, tub apron and tub splash in a vertical stacked pattern with a Lunada Bay Tozen Glow Vanadium/Silver Martini glass mosaic accent band. Mountain Peek is a custom residence located within the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana. The layout of the home was heavily influenced by the site. Instead of building up vertically the floor plan reaches out horizontally with slight elevations between different spaces. This allowed for beautiful views from every space and also gave us the ability to play with roof heights for each individual space. Busy with a new home, working full-time and raising a young child, Elaine knew her large, white kitchen required a team effort. Luckily, she researched examples of all-white kitchen designs as inspiration. “I knew what I wanted my kitchen to look like, but I needed more customization and ideas for the space that would appeal to my aesthetics as well as our busy lifestyle,” she says. Therefore, she recruited IKD’s design team. “I wanted someone who had lots of experience designing IKEA kitchens. IKD fit the bill after seeing the results of their work online from past customers. They had the experience and knowledge to manage all the finer details of the IKEA kitchen options. IKD helped me focus on the big picture by helping my stay organized and keep my sanity!” She adds that initially she was tempted to do the install herself, but knew she didn’t have time. “Although I’m handy, I worried that it would take me twice as long because I would have to figure out how to install it first. I ultimately went with IKEA’s installers. IKEA’s installers were extremely professional and did an excellent job,” she says. This was a good choice as the installation for her IKEA kitchen – particularly with its minimalist kitchen theme – faced a few unique obstacles. “It was tricky trying to coordinate everything; from ordering the new appliances, scheduling the kitchen installers and [coordinating with] my general contractor who did the electrical and plumbing. It was rather time consuming and nerve-wracking,” she says. She adds that the installers were able to customize all cabinets and pieces to fit around the appliances for a seamless look. “They made the installation seem easy but it was definitely not,” she says.

This dramatic entertainment unit was a work of love. We needed a custom unit that would not be boring, but also not weigh down the room that is so light and comfortable. By floating the unit and lighting it from below and inside, it gave it a lighter look that we needed. The grain goes across and continuous which matches the clients posts and details in the home. The stone detail in the back adds texture and interest to the piece. A team effort between the homeowners, the contractor and the designer that was a win win.

Photography by Caryn B. Davis Located in the Cornfield Point area of Old Saybrook along Long Island Sound, this project brought a classic, yet forgotten beach house back to life. Through a little detective work and some creative ingenuity, we restored and enhanced the exterior to it’s former glory and transformed the interior to a highly efficient and functional home all the while uplifting its quaint cottage charm. On the exterior, we recreated a wonderful, airy front porch with cozy bench seats that look out to the water. The white cedar shingle siding is pre-bleached with a subtle flair at the bottom and a delicate break at mid-elevation. The asphalt shingles are not only beautifully matched with the siding, but offer superior reflective qualities to dissipate the heat of the summer sun. On the interior, we joined the front seasonal porch with the family room to form a larger, open living and dining space with paneled walls and ceilings anchored by the original round stone fireplace. In the rear, we carefully crafted a galley kitchen and laundry space with an adjacent first floor master suite. The diminutive house and property posed multiple practical and regulatory challenges which were overcome by a strong team effort, due diligence, and a commitment to the process. John R.
