This white kitchen is grounded by the dark espresso island. Carrara marble island with wine storage on the side create a beautiful contrast to the white cabinets with the silestone grey countertops and herringbone backsplash tile. This kithchen renovation included the removal of a load bearing wall to open it up and make it feel bright and airy.

Tucked neatly into an existing bay of the barn, the open kitchen is a comfortable hub of the home. Rather than create a solid division between the kitchen and the children's TV area, Franklin finished only the lower portion of the post-and-beam supports. The ladder is one of the original features of the barn that Franklin could not imagine ever removing. Cleverly integrated into the support post, its original function allowed workers to climb above large haystacks and pick and toss hay down a chute to the feeding area below. Franklin's children, 10 and 14, also enjoy this aspect of their home. "The kids and their friends run, slide, climb up the ladder and have a ton of fun," he explains, "It’s a barn! To keep the windows as open as possible, the custom draperies were elegantly pulled back using the Italian stringing method. Thoughtful luxury window treatment details add depth and refinement: rust silk cornices are pleated for rich texture, while the coordinating color is repeated in the button detailing and top-edge piping on the pleated beige linen drapery panels. The silk sheers feature a subtle diamond weave embellished with white faux pearls, and the soft glow from the contemporary chandelier enhances the room’s warm, cozy, and sophisticated atmosphere.
