Immediately I had a vision for this room. I saw the far wall to my left as a statement wall paying tribute to New Orleans Design. We transformed a basic wall into a shutter wall using restored New Orleans shutters, some from Katrina destroyed homes and other antique shutters from around the city. The shutters were then enhanced using shades of white, cream and grey with different level of distressing and aging. An antique buffet was transformed to an eye catching silver, gold and pewter metallic piece. Above the buffet is a custom made 4 ' x 6 ' oyster shell mirror. Upon entering the home your eye is drawn to this wall as it POPS! The "tiara", our icing on the cake, is the large vintage chandelier. Details are always the key in all of our designs. We combined an antique dining table with vintage chairs that were chalk painted. We upholstered the chairs in a pretty light mint fabric with a french outdoor patio scene. An gorgeous mahogany antique buffet was transformed to an eye catching silver, gold and pewter metallic piece. Above the buffet is a custom made 4 ' x 6 ' oyster shell mirror which adds the UNIQUE to this space once your eye moves from the STATEMENT SHUTTER WALL. Upon entering the home your eye is drawn to this wall and the oyster mirror as it simply, POPS! The "tiara", our icing on the cake, is the large vintage chandelier. The vintage "tiara" or chandelier was luckily grabbed at a local estate sale and transformed and rePURPOSED into a silver and gold beauty adorned with 6" antique crystals. Pulleys and gears epitomize the Machine Age. Without these simple devices the Industrial Age would never have come to be. And here we have a pipe lamp paying a glorious tribute to all types of mechanization. Most likely, pulleys and gears like these controlled motion and speed in machine tools and conveyers. Lamp features a 3-way switch that first lights the globe bulb, then only the tubular bulb, and finally both bulbs. The lamp is mounted on a hand-crafted black wood “sled rail” base. Both bulbs are included. Height to top is 23 inches. 8-3/4 inches wide by 11-3/4 inches depth.

Love and memories live on in this touching kitchen remodel. Our client had a coffee mug collection of her late husbands that she wanted to somehow incorporate into her kitchen. We enlisted the help of an artisan to create a mosaic using pieces of the coffee mugs. The inspiration for the design was the place he proposed to her, the Eiffel Tower. This project was a tribute to the vision and optimism of the owners. This once-glorious home was so far gone that many people would have taken the easy path -tear it down and start over. Instead, the family hired Old Saratoga Restorations to save every original bit of material that could be salvaged and rebuild the home to its previous grandeur. OSR gutted the interior and reinvented it based on the archaeological evidence for this home restoration. They added a new kitchen and bathrooms with high-end fixtures, custom-cabinetry and top-of-the-line appliances. Outside, everything from the siding and trim to the dilapidated cupola on top needed to be replaced with duplicates.

Eye-Land: Named for the expansive white oak savanna views, this beautiful 5,200-square foot family home offers seamless indoor/outdoor living with five bedrooms and three baths, and space for two more bedrooms and a bathroom. The site posed unique design challenges. The home was ultimately nestled into the hillside, instead of placed on top of the hill, so that it didn’t dominate the dramatic landscape. The openness of the savanna exposes all sides of the house to the public, which required creative use of form and materials. The home’s one-and-a-half story form pays tribute to the site’s farming history. The simplicity of the gable roof puts a modern edge on a traditional form, and the exterior color palette is limited to black tones to strike a stunning contrast to the golden savanna. The main public spaces have oversized south-facing windows and easy access to an outdoor terrace with views overlooking a protected wetland. The connection to the land is further strengthened by strategically placed windows that allow for views from the kitchen to the driveway and auto court to see visitors approach and children play. There is a formal living room adjacent to the front entry for entertaining and a separate family room that opens to the kitchen for immediate family to gather before and after mealtime.

The open and bright living quarters are defined by a change in the volume that encloses a spacious kitchen with a large island, a two-toned tribute to mid-century modern with its beautiful, walnut cabinets, stone countertops and sleek lines. The symmetry of the view is interrupted only by subtle shifts in the window mullions and cabinetry, as a reflection of the balance of asymmetry celebrated in the property’s overall design.
