Kitchen/dining room combo - mid-sized eclectic medium tone wood floor kitchen/dining room combo idea in New York

This living room and dining room speaks to the clients traditional yet artistic tastes. The combinatin of the Chinoise dining chairs, upholstered in black are allowed to shine along-side the simpler lines of the living room furshinshings. The newly framed artwork hung in clusters gave us license to use multiple colours in the space, giving every shade a reason to be there. A pretty and unexpected secretarty gives the client a small spot to display precious family photos and a chair with a red trellis cushion, a nod to the red chairs and the living room patterns. French blue silk drapes add luxury, and a soft touch to the space. Every detail of this room was meticulously thought out. Down to the crystals that hang off her chandelier!

The formal living room with floor to ceiling doors to the outside space need multiple levels of light control. Motorized shades are concealed behind a wood valance while delicate, patterned sheer fabrics filter light and give softness to the large space. Windows are framed with navy silk panels with gold decorative hardware and antique drapery holdbacks.

After: we had the fireplace surround re-bricked in a harringbone pattern; built-in cabinets/bookcase to create a built-in media center; dark brown wood coffee table; dark brown wood end tables; leather loveseats; 8 way, hand tied, solid hardwood frame chairs; hand knotted wool rug;

Black feature window adds pop to the overall design and creates a focal point within the space. Window sill adds to the charm of this traditional French country/Provincial kitchen. Backsplash tile in a long subway pattern with textured surface is the finishing touch.

The living room was open to the kitchen, dining, and entry, so we had to make sure the colors and design all worked together. We ordered new leather recliners from Brashear's, a new Bernhardt sofa from Hank's, and upholstered swivel chairs from Kurt's. The ottoman was found by the client, and she recovered it herself in a fabric we found at Hobby Lobby. the custom draperies are a wide spa blue/tan/cream stripe from Kravet, with custom track drapery hardware. Another custom carpet rug with a wavy tiger pattern was made to fit the room exactly. Pops of orange are in the pillows and bookshelves to add more color. The fireplace surround was a specialty tile found at Townzen Tile in Springdale. We also painted the backs of the bookshelves our blue accent color to provide some contrast against the white trim.
