This 1920s colonial had “great bones” but the small, dark galley kitchen needed an overhaul. Studio Dearborn designed a fresh, inviting space with white and navy inset cabinetry crafted from solid maple. The navy blue island, albeit small, packs a ton of storage. The island is color matched to Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. White cabinetry in Benjamin Moore’s White Opulence, with white cararra marble countertops and white thassos mosaic backsplash keep the kitchen feeling light and airy. Enter this discrete wine cellar through an arched cherry wood door with beveled glass. With a capacity of over 200 bottles, this design was no small feat to achieve, but was absolutely worth it; it’s incredibly space-efficient location under the staircase allows two people to comfortably explore your wine collection. The cherry wood wine racks match the dark espresso stained wood of the kitchen and shelving around the fireplace. Notice the additional drawers under the stairs - useful for the adjacent kitchen and bar area!

The new island boasts lots of storage and is a center gathering place. We relocated the cook top to the island and included a hidden downdraft vent. The island also includes a warming drawer and a pop up mixer station. The island can seat 4 people comfortably while meals are being prepared.

This staircase leading to this home's back door was rebuilt to include under-stair storage. The stair fronts were left open, and the inside of the staircase was framed, allowing a continuation of flooring. The extra floor space in this staircase creates the perfect shoe storage and eliminating the chance of tripping over shoes.

One of the challenges in wine room construction is the size and shape of the space. For this project, Wine Cellar Specialists had to create a beautiful and functional design for a wine cellar under the stairs. Despite the space requirements and irregular shape of the room, they were able to come up with an elegant design. To keep the wines safe, they installed a commercial grade wine cellar refrigeration unit supplied by US Cellar Systems.
