Let us build your dream! Cathedral Construction is a general contractor providing full service residential and light commercial remodeling and new construction. Working with a talented crew and a solid group of subcontractors, we provide a high-quality end product. We are also a design/build firm, specializing in complete project development and management and provide a wide range of services from small carpentry projects to complete remodels, additions, and accessory dwelling units. Our goal is to provide complete design and scope clarity before a single nail is hammered, so that you know exactly what your're getting and exactly what it costs. Every project comes with its own expenses, and costs can vary wildly in a single project based on the materials and finishes the are chosen by the designer or customer. When we are designing and developing the work-scope for a project, we work to create a project tailored towards our customer's needs, with their budget in mind. While we are willing to work with most products available, we encourage customers to make decisions that are based on long-term integrity. This means sometimes choosing products and finishes that have more of an up-front cost, but will hold up better over time. Quality is ultimately less expensive in the long run! Once the project is underway, you can trust our team to be clean, friendly, thorough, and respectful of your home, while creating a quality product. We hired them to renovate an attached garage into a small mother-in-law studio over 3 yrs ago , just before the pandemic hit; they charged us half the estimated cost up front- as a deposit ($35,000+ !) -- and then nothing but excuses as to why they never got started on the project (they did do preliminary drawings but nothing more). Most construction companies around the Pac NW continued to work through the pandemic but CC continuously used it as the 'reason' to not do the job; They kept the deposit though (likely used it for personal gain), broke contract and have since forced us to pursue legal action-- something we really did not want to do, of course. Be incredibly wary about hiring them for anything.

We had a similar experience as the reviewer Brain H. We also felt Cathedral Construction took advantage of our budget and time constraints. Usually, in construction you get one or two out of three things 1) Fast; 2) Good; 3) Cheap. We got none of the above. We didn't find them trustworthy and recommend carefully reading their contract and documenting all of your communication with them. When we voiced concern with the job, from our front door being left wide open overnight to the color of the grout, they would make excuses and rarely took responsibility for themselves. Multiple times we received long-winded, meandering emails late at night. In general, working with them was unpleasant and anxiety-producing. Additionally, even though we paid full price, they kept several of our materials that were never installed. They said they would bring them by but they never did. After a month of not hearing from them, we reached out about a ladder they left on the property. They picked up their ladder but did not drop off our materials. So now, not only do we have a design and execution we aren't satisfied with, we have a bathroom that doesn't even have a door on the vanity or medicine cabinet among other things. To be fair, they did offer to finish the job, but we were so far passed the deadline and found working with them so stressful and unpleasant, we declined. Needless to say, we regret hiring them and won't make the same mistake twice.

My wife and I hired Cathedral Construction for our home renovation. Tara Velarde (designer) and Paul left a sour taste in our mouths. We felt they took advantage of our inexperience in renovation as well as the time constraints we were in. After speaking to several reputable contractors, we found out that they had over-charged us for the work. The “design” that Tara has provided cost just over $800 were a joke. It’s literally an excel spreadsheet of stuff that my wife and I had picked out. We even had to ask for it after they had wrapped the initial floor install. Needless to say we did not have them do any more work to our home. Had we gone with them for the kitchen remodel, we probably would’ve over-stretched our initial budget. The prices they quoted us were ridiculous. I'm glad I ended up shopping around and found other contractors to continue our projects.

We were a bit surprised to receive this response almost a year after providing services for you, and I wish you had contacted us directly to resolve any issues you have. We’re pretty friendly folks!

We work very hard to provide accurate job costing in our proposals, down to the nail and penny. You accepted our proposal for the work you requested, we signed a construction contract, and we completed the work agreed upon for the price agreed upon in that contract. In fact, despite no obligation to do so, we bought back the material overage that (while standard to make up for odd cuts and prevent stalls due to long material lead times should we run short) was the result of an efficient installation. We always encourage customers to shop around, but that responsibility is on you. We stay competitive and are very accurate and honest with our pricing, but customers simply looking for the cheapest price aren’t always a good fit with us. Most come to us for other values such as our quality of work, creativity, honesty, friendliness, and valuing the sanctity and safety of people’s homes (not to mention staying in business past one construction boom).

Having a very short window between closing on your new home and moving in, you may have had a hard time finding other contractors to provide quotes on such short notice. At the time we were booked out over two months for design and six months for construction. Our prices were honest and we worked in your more urgent needs ahead of several other people to accommodate your timeline and start design on the more exciting parts of your project. It’s unfortunate that you feel we took advantage of that timeline or your lack of experience, but that simply isn’t true.

Regarding your design services: We provided you with an invoice detailing what time was spent on your project, and to say that you only received a spreadsheet is dishonest. You pulled the plug on design for a kitchen and two bathrooms before completion. This may not have resulted in much work product, but people worked on your behalf and even if I thought it morally acceptable not to, I’m legally obligated to pay people for their time. In any case, you were contractually obligated to, and we simply billed you for work performed.

Paul and the Cathedral crew that works with him are truly professionals! I had some work that needed done in my house during a freezing snow storm and they arrived early like we scheduled and we went through the job that I needed help with. They assured me that all the repairs will get done in a day and they delivered! fixing everything in a few hours with great attention to details and high level of craftsmanship. I had a truly terrific experience with this company and its wonderful people and will not hesitate to hire them again for future projects.

What’s for dinner? That age old question, routinely pops into my head within the first 20 minutes of staring a new day. Typically somewhere between wash, rinse and repeat. (Personal confession: I don’t repeat.) After 13 years with the TLB (the Tall Leggy Blonde for those new to my Gonzo musings) we’ve settled into some set roles and responsibilities. Highlights of mine include mowing the lawn, sleeping in the wet spot and preparing the majority of our meals. I don’t mind (the meals) as I enjoy the idea of cooking. What I didn’t enjoy was being segregated into a small box like 1970’s suck ass kitchen, with old appliances, no ambiance and an presumed history of many casserole / hamburger helper styled meal. Suffocating. Boring. Small. That was my kitchen; not to be confused as a reference to my past sexual experiences. Sure, there had always been grand plans. Tear down these walls, Mr. Boyardee! It was often just wishful thinking; ideas that pop into ones head while preparing the night’s meal in the solitary confinement of our drab kitchen. That has changed. The walls are down. What was once ugly, cramped and dated, has been transformed into something amazing. We owe Paul and Cathedral Construction a huge debt of gratitude for helping us achieve our perfect kitchen. We truly couldn’t be happier with the final result. Paul was able to take our wants and make them a reality. From the custom cabinets, the subway tile, gas range and open concept, it was better than we could possibly image. I even have my own cherry wood bar (which I still require coasters for)!
