I would add some LED undercounter lights and some pendants over the island or the bar area. Its hard to tell from the pictures, your style but you could add some stainless bar pulls on the cabinets

If those are laminate counters, then you could replace them with cream colored counters for just a few hundred dollars.

You could add some well positioned track lighting. If you want to paint, could you maybe just paint some accent markings/outlines on the doors?

I would also consider adding uplights to the top of the cabinet. Adds some nice depth. Good luck.

Handles and pulls would help. Glass inserts in a couple of the doors, possibly. I couldn't se if you have a backsplash? You could add some color or shine there. Could paint the island a lighter color. Enjoy your new home!

paint the walls a lighter brighter color like lemon yellow.

I don't see that you have a choice. Painting the walls brighter will only contrast sharply with the cabinets and make them look darker and your space choppy and small. I would bite the bullet and paint. Too bad you didn't pick a lighter wood tone. Good luck, Bill
