Looks like the big sectional is shoved up against the walls too tightly. There is no room for the drapes to fall correctly. Pull the whole thing out, just a few inches.

Crown molding around the room would be a nice finisher.

Plus, art over the fireplace is always more interesting. Add something like this. I like the black in it.

Maybe have a professional in and ask about your window treatments. That is one wide window behind the sectional and the drapes don't have much stacking room.

Maybe add sheers? Or do something along the lines of photo "Marin Remodel".

Never hurts to throw some black into a room. In throw rug, or some pillows, or art.

I will push out the couch so the drapes have more stacking room. I will look into buying a new rug. Also will think about sheer drapes

Crown will make a huge difference in your rooms. The red drapes are a bit heavy and full while the side window is bare. Perhaps the pink/peachy room is a camera distortion but if not, I'd paint the FP white.

I agree with removing the ottoman. I'm not a designer and don't have much attention to detail but...
Personally, I'd remove the drapes (you have shades), add crown moulding in the 2 rooms, and straighten the picture of the person.
Then, painting the mantel & built-in to match the white trim color and shades.

First, try some color. Rug, lamps, pillows and art. Then look again.

I'm from Scandinavia, so my instinct is to go for white walls. The room just seems very "beige". I think white walls would contrast very nicely with the dark built-in shelves, the dark (leather?) ottoman and the dark wood on the dining chairs. The blue-greenish color in the drapes and pillows are actually quite nice, I think, but kind of get lost in all the beige in the room. I agree with the suggestion of a different rug, something that adds more color or contrast.

And the piano room is great. Wouldn't really change a thing. Maybe just a vase with some red roses on the round table?

I would try the following:

Sitting/fireplace area:

1. Move the whole sofa set to an angle so it is slight facing fire place, if I am right you can still see TV from this angle. Move it completely away from walls-since you have a huge space expanding into dining area, you can do this.

2. If you go for a Persian carpet with touching of red in it, add the same coloured cushions to brighten it all up and a throw over the side of the chair.

3. I would change the curtains for something brighter/deeper in colour like the red or even an orange-even have a pattern in the curtains ( same as cushions), and something with more volume.

4. Change the wall art and put above fireplace.

5. Add a row of book above TV in space in cabinet.

6. Add family photos on Mantel and add a basket of extra throws besides the fireplace in the corner, throws with different colours to match the theme of the room.

7. This room is really beautiful, so a chandelier would really bring the room together.

Dining Area:

1. I personally don't like glass on glass, so would exchange the bottles for a a group of candles or wooden bowl of fruit.

2. Cover chairs with full chair covers ( I will try to put examples below)

3. Add a round rug under the table

Piano Room:

1. The curtains in here would be nice in sitting room, love their colour.

i think all you need to do is break up the beige. in the LR the floor tiles, walls, FP, carpeting, area rug and furniture all blend in together. there isn't enough contrast. consider a new and larger area rug to start, and perhaps it will inspire a new wall color. then bring in some additional pattern with throw pillows and some wall art. add a couple more curtain panels to the wall behind the sofa to break up the expanse of window/wall, and bring in some table and floor lamps to warm up the space. put some rubber stoppers under the feet of the sofa, so the sofa doesn't smush the curtains against the wall....they should be able to hang freely...perhaps place a floor lamp behind on the sofa on one side. then add a seat beside the built-in to face into the sofa to round out the seating area. in the DR, take plastic off seats and recover the plain beige seat cushions in a patterned fabric and hang an appropriately sized pendant over the table and add a small center piece with a little texture to the glass table. and your room with the piano looks great!

I really like your red and yellow room! I would just add a carpet that had red in it. And set something red on the coffee table (tea pot, flowers, books, just something with red.)

You have an angle going on with your fireplace. Try a large rug on an angle! Angles add interest and energy. Even play with floating your furniture some.

Ayayaye, so many suggestions! Good fun. Me, I'm a minimal change for maximum impact kind of person. The thing is, the living room is basically beautiful, so I wouldn't like to see too much change -- the result might be beautiful too, but it would be a different kind of beautiful. I think the art you have is exactly right for its position and space. I agree that you need to pull the seating out so that the curtains can hang properly. You already have my opinion on the rug, and I like Groveraxle's suggestions, too. I do think another piece of art over the fireplace could look great but I find your mirror particularly attractive, so I don't know that I'd want you to move it unless you have another excellent position for it. Someone may have mentioned it, but you could try swivelling your existing ottoman 90 degrees; it might allow it to be more functional? Not sure. I wouldn't go for white walls, as much as I love them; I think it would cancel out the room's warmth. I'd love to see your updates, eventually.

The green one disappears into the floor again. The blue one is ok. I think you should go bolder, darker blue.

New sun burst mirror over the fireplace, change out the area rug with something more colorful so you can tie in the blues and taupe's. If not put art over the fireplace and put a floor mirror where the art is now. I would also get a new coffee table- something class to soften up the room.

Hi Groveraxle. How did you put the rug in the picture?

On the window wall, instead of treating it as one window, hang a panel between each of the windows on one long rod that stretches the entire span. I do like your palette but you could go a little darker (possibly on drapes or rug). Whether someone is traditional, modern, or somewhere in between... A contrast of lights and darks really gives a room a designer feel.

Could you use your magic and switch the mirror for the art?

I would like to see some texture and light added to the room in specific spots. For instance, how about some shiny tall vases on both sides of the fireplace hearth filled with wooden twigs and maybe lit with the tiny light bulbs. Corner where the sofa goes around it, there is no lighting. I would add a pole lamp behind the sofa in that corner and or add a picture light over the artwork above the sofa.
In the room with the 4 chairs, can you add a panel of your curtain to the side window? It would help with continuity. You need a focal point with some pizazz on that center table. I would suggest a colorful low decorative bowl. You can keep it empty or add decorative seasonal elements to the bowl. Great opportunity for a creative center to that room.

I would suggest painting the walls a light gray color and adding colorful throw pillows to brighten up the room. I would also add a modern silver chandelier to give the room some character. However, be careful as to what size you choose as you don't want the chandelier to overpower the room. If a chandelier is not an option then I would suggest playing with patterned curtains to add some color to the room. Lastly, I would paint the entertainment center white to brighten up the room. You can add family pictures on the top using a mix of gray/silver and a bold/bright color for the picture frames. Using bolder/brighter colors to accent the room makes an incredible difference.

I would choose a dark accent color, like maybe burgundy, and use that to bring out the darker tones in the furniture. Right now everything is very washed out, so a pop of color would really help balance the space aesthetically.

Here is an idea to bring in a relaxing touch. Water walls are not only pleasing to the eye but they also help clean the air by attracting dust particles.

Your home is very pretty. If you want to make a few subtle improvements, it won't take that much.
I love the mirror above the fireplace because of the shape and also color. Although that space could handle a very large piece of art as well. If you can add black somewhere else in a small dose, that would be great. Maybe in a lampshade? You need one more lamp, maybe arched floor lamp behind sectional.
As mentioned already ottoman needs to be moved, think about people needing a place to set down a drink etc. If you choose not to use that one a square one of good size (with tray on top), or even a round tufted one or glass table would look nice.

I would pick up one bold color to bring in. If you are unsure and don't want to commit yet with rug, grab some throw pillows and switch out candles on mantle to try. I love family photos, but I disagree with putting them on mantle.
You could also use shelf above TV to sparingly display a piece of two of colorful pottery etc.

Piano room - I think that's a pretty room. You could add some real flowers to table in season. Otherwise some large coffee table books. Keep super simple. I do like the idea of seeing what one of the chairs might look like in your LR.

The room is lovely. Well done. A neat example of how small details help to balance a room is the way that the blue candles look much better on the right rather than on the left of the mantlepiece -- further from the curtain and bringing the blue over to that side of the room.

The piano room is perfect, and I would not change a thing except maybe raising the mirror as another poster suggested. I believe the living room would look much better and brighter if you would paint the walls a soft white or off-white to make the other colors stand out more. If you would be changing the carpet, I would suggest a tone-on-tone pattern in shades of silver grey. If you cannot change the carpet now, I would advise getting a dark-toned area rug that would tie in with the dark colors in the room. Your furnishings are very nice, but the color scheme needs improvement.

I'm glad to see you've added some bolder pillows to LR - the dark mirror and picture really stood out while the sofa, pillows and rugs just faded away. Much improved. I'd still consider sheers - it would make the windows look more complete and luxurious.

Consider either recovering the dining chairs or putting slipcovers over them. Also, get something solid, natural....and low for the table. Those blue bottles just seem to precarious!

Looks great @occinterior, I would recommend adding a few bright pops of colors through some throw pillows. Since the overall look is pretty contemporary, may be try some of our Barn & Willow new Geometric Pattern throw pillows.
