It is so nice to find this forum. Where I live if you are not particularly mechanically inclined, don`t hunt,or frequent the bars, you are considered kind of wierd. My passion has always been horiiculture. However, I could never make a living of it because my conscious would never permit me to sell plants such as the ornamental pears (I even consider them inferior to mimosa (as bad as some people think they are) Pears are still the rage here. They are pretty while young but contribute nothing as fragrance, nothing particularly outstanding as a food source to wildlife, they are just fast growing and cheap, same with most of the junipers in my estimation.

I`m new enough to this forum that I haven`t just yet figured out how to do that. I live in south central Illinois. The central part of the state doesn`t want to claim us. They have that rich black topsoil 6 feet or more thick and the southern part of the state doesn`t want to claim us either. Out in the middle of nowhere literally. I`m 100 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri and about 60 miles east of Vincennes, Indiana

Jeff, there's lots of people making a living selling plants that are indigenous to their region. If you love horticulture and would really want to do something in the field, you might consider getting into selling native/indigenous plants for your region.

Ken, from personal experience....there are some not so decent people who find out peoples personal info and mass email it out to many others....so I don't blame Jeff for not disclosing where he is.

Jeff - you only grow what you like or until such a time as you can grow what you like. That's the deal. Poor, starving, or comfortable.

You can go to the bottom of this page and click on "member homepage" or something like that. Watch out for internet freaks! Good luck! So far I've been told how to talk, what's considered 'generational' political correctness (euphemism); literally stalked to the point that I was scared; told I shouldn't be allowed to post because of my delusional disorder ------------------GOOD LUCK "SIR"! And your email won't get dispursed if you don't allow for it to be visible to everyone which doesn't mean to say you cannot still use the Garden Web 'method' of "allowing members to contact you."

You'd be a fool not to allow members to contact you quite honestly. Again, your email is not shown (when a member contacts you) - so no harm, no foul. The option is there, so you can't go wrong.

It's just like life here man. It always sounds better when "I" speak of course. You hear me?

Just to clear my own concious - I even had a guy go back over five years worth of my postings on this website (like the guy can read my mind at the time I'm writing which "I WILL ATTEST" that I am the only person who knew my mindframe at that moment and look for any 'sign' of me being a racist. Wait till any PERSON in here ever meets me someday.

Life's boring man. Glad I'm here though. (I'm the guy laughing, pouring tears into the keyboard... next thing I know, I'm told I'M A RACIST!

Now I'm upsetting myself again and all at once calm.

I guess talking about this, has cleared my concience.

To all the pimps and players out there. This ones for you.

    Later.

to clear up a misunderstanding perhaps. I`m not bad-mouthing anyone in the landscape - nursery profession for selling callery pears, mimosa, siberian elm or anything else. Unless you have grown the substandard you can`t appreciate the best. Even the substandard fills a niche. Some of us can`t afford the very best. We all are trying to make an honest living I hope. I myself love mimosa because my grandmother grew from a seed. I love it for its fragrance and because it attracts so many hummingbirds to my garden. I keep it from escaping because I`m environmentally conscious. If cold weather kills it a start again. I guess why I`m so fascinated with cedrus is because Solomon`s temple was built from the Cedar-of-Lebanon, the ginkgo and dawn redwood have fascinating histories. Throughout history man has had an appreciation of nature. I`m a farmer growing genetically modified crops because it is better for the environment (less pesticides)
Thank you all for you responses!

That was a brilliant raving as well as cowardly of me to spew all that into this forum.

I guess you never know what you get with me but it's a package deal.

    Take care,

    Dax
