Dining Room window advice

Hi all. Looking for dining room window treatment help. The dining room is Open to the kitchen.

In the kitchen I finally decided to go with these woven wood shades. My question is what to do with these two windows on either side of the fireplace? I could do inside mount woven wood shades the same as in the kitchen to make it look uniform? Or thinking I could just do a ORB curtain rod with a linen sheer half on each side. I should mention just to give you an idea of style that we are soon getting a new more casual dining set and I'm thinking of purchasing this rug from Pottery Barn. Also DH really would like to leave french doors alone (no treatments). Thanks for the advice!!!

Sheers with a linen fabric will definitely give you the more casual look you are after. When you say a half on each window though, think about: will you ever want to open the sheers and if so a pair per window may be better. Also you will want to look at the fullness of a half since you will want the half to be full enough to look good on a window. Skimpy never works.

As far as the french doors go, you can leave them open for sure as long as you do not get a lot of sun in those doors which could harm your floors and furnishings and as long as you do not need some degree of privacy there.

    Best wishes!

Thanks ladies, considering the sheers idea as well. Also came across this blue rug which I think I like better then the yellow/green/red one above. What do you all think? Thanks:)

I rarely say this but in your case I would leave the windows and doors the way they are. The windows are quite narrow and with the electric baseboard heater I don't think a long drape to the floor would be safe and a roman would enclose the window too much. If you absolutely want to do something then mount a valance over each window starting at the ceiling and coming down about a foot, but that would be the only thing , again in this case less is more.

Hi Melissa. Your place is beautiful!! Love LOVE your French doors. Please leave them as they are. Perfect. Now, re dining room, if you painted chairs white it would look amazing ESP with white sheers. You will want two panels of 50 inches on each side. The look will be so breezy. Re rug, love your second pic. Would love to see some blue as accent colour. Do you have an accent colour of choice yet?

Thanks Coby!! I've actually been stressed about accent color. I've used some pops of green and a little blue. I know I need to tie it into kitchen as well since so open. I'd like to bring out that rust color in the rug as well. In the kitchen I also have a breakfast nook with table. Here's what I've looked at so far but would love advice and suggestions! 1st pic: Kitchen rug under sink? Then framing 3 of these apple picks (all 3 are a little different) in big matted black wood frames over bench in nook. Then using these green pillows on bench in kitchen nook.... Do they all sort of go with the DR rug??

    Thank u!! Nook still not

done yet but here's a pic. The seat will be brown wood and we are getting a rectangular table with pedestal leg.

I just noticed my original comment said to put up sheets!! LOL I meant sheers. Since then you mentioned baseboard heaters. If privacy isn't an issue just leave them bare.

Thanks Kristi, I knew what you meant:). Auto correct did that to me as well! Yes with the baseboards curtains are tough... Ok, leaving them bare seems to be the vote... Thanks :).

The nook is adorable!!! So cozy. So yes, if you do some green throw pillows there it would be fresh and inviting.

I am so sorry. Didn't notice your base board heaters. Where do you live? I am wondering if you could do Romans in winter, and white sheets in summer months.

I am jealous of your cheery red yellow rug choice I have been lusting after that very rug for years.....it is going to be wonderful in your home. I do not like the blue----too predictable for my taste.

Thanks everyone for your advice & opinions! I really appreciate it. Coby I live in NJ & we've had the worst winter!!! So maybe if I do something on the window it will be a fabric shade or still considering those woven ones...

pull up woven Roman shades are just classic and you can have them up all the time for view and a finished look in your room. If you do the Romans pic a color that relates to another color in the room, flooring accent table etc.

Take care of the carpet first. Then if you choose fabric Romans it will be an easier choice. Soosun- cheery red yellow rug?..am I missing something? Both rugs shown are muted. And lovely. Did you maybe think the print choice was for rug? Melissa- I live in Canada. Our winter has been crazy, but we are skiers so we love it!! Do you have a certain style in mind for your new table/chairs? You could get fabric chair covers which would give you a new look ..

Thanks Soosun. But thinking about what Johanne said earlier (thanks btw for that good advice Johanne!!) that the woven shades will enclose the window too much... But that's got me thinking they might look good if I do an outside mount either on the trim or over the trim... Hmmm....

Oh yes. Definitely you want to do blinds from the crown over window casing. Maybe a foot or so long in total.

I love the look of fabric chairs but I have a 3 & 8 year old who have friends over, etc & I just don't want to worry about them. Thinking if doing all brown wood table & chairs with just some tie on cushions... Something like these houzz pics...

was thinking that was a Pottery Barn rug with the flowers being red and yellow? And I am not always a blue person when I have to choose between colors. Depends on the room. haha

Oh I see!! You're actually going to USE the dining room. Haha. I see why you wish to create a less formal look now. All wood like those pics will be great and easier to care for. Soosun- gotcha.

Hi Houzzers, quick question on white sheers which I'm leaning towards because now that I think about it, I have curtains in other areas of my home even with the baseboards... Coby, in a previous message you mentioned I should do 2, 50 inch panels. Did you mean 2 total or 2 for each window?? Thanks :)!!!
