FOSTESS November Giving Swap

First of all, you must be member of FOSTESS, (Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps), in order to sign up for this swap. Please contact Shirley/sjc48 or Jeanne/sandlapper_rose for details on how to join.

With the month of November and the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, I reflect on all I have to be thankful for. I have made many friends here on Houzz, (Gardenweb) over the many years I have been a member. I have become email friends, Facebook friends, and have even met a few members along the way. My gardens flourish with the many plants and seeds that have been exchanged. I especially love the memories that go along with each plant or item that has been given to me by members. I also cherish the ornaments that I adorn my tree with that are from my garden friends.

With most of us putting up our Christmas tree in the weeks after Thanksgiving, I am asking that we send your partner a Christmas ornament along with a thoughtful card. The ornament does not have to elaborate and I would actually prefer you make it. Not creative? Google ornaments crafts, you will be amazed at the simple things that can be made. I have actually made angel ornaments from a seed package. I have found items that I have simply glue gunned an ornament hanger on the back and made them special ornaments so it doesn't even have to be a Christmas theme. Perhaps something garden related. An ornament hanger glued to a fairy garden item. Think outside the box and think recycled/repurposed. I know our swaps are meant to be simple so it would be good to keep it simple. Make a memory.

During the month I will have some interaction as well with something I call "Where am I" and another game I am thinking of trying. We will also be sharing things we are thankful for.

I hope you will join us and I am asking that you sign up by November 8th and partners will be assigned on the 8th. Please mail by November 21st. That gives you 3 weeks to get your ornament made. You can certainly purchase one if you don't feel creative. The goal is to send something to remind your swap partner of you and our wonderful FOSTESS group. Hope to see you sign up. Margo

I was thinking Paris, Texas. Paris France has certainly been on everyone's mind lately and Paris, Texas is not too far from where your son lives.

Darrin, I'm so happy you liked the package. My daughter loved the owl. She wants me to make another one for us, but we'll have to look for some perfect "owl eyes". That was the only two buttons we have like that. We have owls around, but I never see them. DH usually takes the dog for a walk around 4 AM and he's been lucky enough to see them. The cinnamon is awesome. I have other kinds, but always reach for this one.

Margo's ornaments that she made-Thanks Margo you have alot of talent.

No one has guessed this city in Texas. I will give you a hint. I chose this city because it reminds me of the upcoming holiday.

Feel free to ask a question along with your guess as you are allowed both.

Thanks for posting my ornaments Suzanne. I have been making these cinnamon stick ornaments for years. I'd like to try something different than the santa and snowman this year. I couldn't find the packages of cinnamon sticks this year but fortunately still had enough left over from last year.

Was just going through sent/received and it looks like all packages have been sent and we are waiting for Erica and Amy to receive. I am sure they will post as soon as the ornaments arrived. I have to say I am quite impressed with all the ornaments I have seen. Great job everyone.

    My guess,...Garland.

    Arlington

Be sure to ask a question in case your guess is not correct. It will help narrow it down.

    Is it Holiday Lakes ,Texas?

    Is it Huston?

    Is it El Paso?

If that's not correct, I'll ask if the city is in a county that borders Mexico?

The annual turkey trot will be a go tomorrow in Beaumont, TX.....so how about Beaumont?

If Beaumont is not correct, my q...is the population of this city less than 25,000?

    Happy Wednesday!

No correct guesses yet. This city is not in a county that borders Mexico. It is a very, very small city with a population much less than that Annie.

As a matter of fact it is so small, you can drive through it faster than you can gobble.

    Aha! Turkey, Texas!

Darrin I believe you have it...congrats.

Amy- Yes I made the ornaments and the NC britches. I cannot wait to see what seedlings will come from daylily 'Granny's Bonnet'. Hope you get some that are keepers.

Thrilled to have gotten it right! I originally selected Garland because I was thinking "Christmas garland", and Elly has/had family living there.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I am thankful for good weather so that everyone who has travels plans can stay safe.

I will not be shopping today. I think everyone should stay home so that the stores have no choice but to close on Thanksgiving. Trust me, the deals you fight for can be found another day minus the crowds and fights.

Too right, Margo. Some years ago we went to a wee-hours Black Friday event at Wally World, mainly to get a new TV. It was terrible. People cutting in line and being obnoxious in other ways, ripping through the store like it was a NASCAR raceway. While we did get a TV, when we went back the following day there were still plenty of the kind of TVs we bought, still on sale. We could have just waited. Then, several years before that, we went to a day-after-Christmas sales event at the Rogue Valley Mall, in Medford, and that was a definite nightmare. The place was full of half-crazed asylum escapees. Never again, say we. Never again.

Thanks bunches for all the congrats, everyone! - Happy Thanksgiving!!

Ruth,...yesterday was "pie day", here. Meaning Elly did all the pie baking for today's feast (3 apple and 2 pumpkin). And, as usual, if there's leftover crust dough it gets rolled out and baked with cinnamon and, in our case, sucralose. Just like Elly's and our respective mothers used to do (along with countless others, no doubt). No leftover dough this time, though, so Elly rolled out some fresh dough, and we experimented a bit. The standard store-bought cinnamon was put on half, with the Vietnamese cinnamon on the rest. Our preference?...hands down, Penzeys Vietnamese! Yeah, definitely, they'll be getting our business. Thanks again, Ruth! Is there any way, if we mention your name or something, you'll get a discount on a future purchase?

Darrin -- I received my wonderful ornament from you and Elly today! Thank you both so much. Elly does beautiful work, and I have to say that there is not a chance in hell that I'm using it as a "kitchen scrubby" as suggested. Lol. I'll probably use it as a hot pad when there's guests (which means it will probably stay immaculate forever *grin*). Please take your time on your other ornament. There's no rush.

Well folks, looks like that's a wrap. Unless I've made a mistake, this swap has been completed. I want to thank all of you for participating and I hope you had fun. I for one am most pleased with my bulb from Katie and it will always remind me not only of Katie, but of all my friends I have come to know here on FOTESS. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and I look forward to our next swap. Margo

I want to say a Huge Thank You to Annie for my ornaments! They are just like I like them! she made the cutest Mr. And Mrs Snowman and they are absolutely adorable!! She also sent a cute card with pine trees falling out of the envelope! LOL! Loved it! And adorable Christmas socks and I will definitely be wearing these! And these seeds:Tomato blue gold and blue beauty, prima rossa swiss chard, super sugar snap peas, white Russian kale, Lady Grisel Hamilton sweet peas, painted lady beans. I loved all of it and will definitely be on the tree, on my feet and in my garden! I'd put up a pic, but can't seem to figure it out yet! Help!

Today, I am Thankful for my sister's good recovery and great results! Also for all my family and friends! I came home early as my sister has her dgt. home who will help her now and my grandson's are all here! Total ruckus and noise, and lots of food!! But wouldn't change it for the world!

Good Morning all. Great swap. Thank you Margo.

Darrin, pies sound awesome. We didn't have pumpkin or apple and I do love both. No, don't need to mention my name, just enjoy their great products.

No shopping here, but one of my daughters and one grandson did have to work. Dinner was at friends house and it was early enough for them eat before going to work. No shopping yesterday either. We're having lots and lots of rain here. It's best to just stay inside and watch movies and football if you don't have to go out.

Melinda, I'm so happy your sister's surgery went well and no sign of cancer.

Margo, I received a sweet little surprise in the mail. Thank you so much for the Santa ornament and Christmas card. I loved it!

Margo, I received my card and the super cute cinnamon stick snowman ornament! Snowmen are one of my favorite Xmasy themes! The bottom tip was broken off, but the ornament is fine. Besides, my DH ate the little cinnamon piece... Lol

Margo, I too received the pretty card and the cinnamon stick, however, mine has not been eaten.....yet! Thank you so much! I spent the day at work, counting the hours, so it was nice, positive surprise to come home to!

    Shirley!

Katie, I am sorry yours was broken. I was taking a chance mailing without a bubble envelope but it would have cost 249 each to do so and didn't think those little sticks were worth that. LOL I can't believe your hubby ate that either. Mine would do the same though. Margo
