Are you looking to tear everything out and start over, or just, say, do things with paint (beyond the new counter)? Those are pretty different projects, so it's a bit hard to advise without knowing. Should be easy to put your gray-walls/white-trim imprint on this, and then you could paint the vanity white and see how you like it. But if you're doing new tile and everything else, then the options broaden, and I'd suggest starting an ideabook of photos you like so you can see which finishes tend to recur.

I am going to take everything out and start over except leave the toilet where its at. I did start an idea book but I am unsure without any windows and the size the room which way to go with the cabinets-espresso or white. This is the only bathroom downstairs and the one our guests and us use the most. We do use the vanity for storage.

I think if everything else in the bathroom remains bright and light (flooring, paint, countertop, lighting, etc.), painting the cabinet espresso would look great! I say go for it.

HI -- It's a powder room so you can go for the gold and make it something special and it doesn't have to match the kitchen at all. Have fun with it ! Wall hung vanity in glossy white ( Ikea ) with the quartz top and modern fixture . A new sleek toilet that has the hidden trap ( smooth sides ) make for easy cleaning . All in white . Great floor tiles and maybe heated floors . And then a bold great wallpaper or a color and a fancy frame mirror and modern LED lighting . You could put floor lighting for the evenings . And a larger modern painting if needed .

Well, here are some ideas to get your blood moving. I'd stick with a simple vanity.

Will you be painting the existing cabinet or purchasing a new vanity? The only thing to consider is making sure the two material colors (vanity and countertop) coordinate. Sometimes two different "whites" can clash. Maybe find a countertop first, ask for a large sample, then go shopping for the vanity (or paint for the vanity)...or vic versa. I think if you make sure they compliment each other it could look quite stunning!

I was thinking about buying a new vanity. Not sure if it would be cost effective to paint the existing one. I would like shaker door style. Thanks for all of your input. My only concern is looking sterile/boring or not picking everything out right so it doesn't all match or go together

Our powder room has a white vanity and we recently really punched it up by replacing the cultured marble vanity top and sink with a granite remnant that we fell in love with at a local granite yard. We weren't looking to do so, were looking for granite remnants for upstairs bathroom renos, but this one really spoke to us. It can be very cost effective to use a remnant for a small surface like this, and it can really set the tone for a fabulous space if you choose something that speaks to you and maybe is a little on the bold side. Try visiting local granite yards to look at remnants and see if you find something you love and then that can set the tone for the whole remodel.

I went to a bone yard and found this piece. It's Quartz but I have no other information on it. It had powder on it so it was a little hard to see it.

If things start to turn sterile/boring (which I don't think they will), there are cheap ways to liven it up, like switching out a paint color, adding a wallpaper accent wall, etc. You've got to remember that anything will be an upgrade at this point. Trust your choices and have fun.

Hi! Looking at your photos and reading what you have been doing, I suggest a few things. Firstly, the idea of a floating cabinet is great but it would depend on the style of your kitchen cabinets. Since the powder room is right off the kitchen, I would stay around the same color as the stained island for the cabinet. I would suggest the Cambria Quartz in Torquay. It gives a similar look to white Carrera marble. A light soothing gray would be perfect on the walls with a ceramic or porcelain tile that looks like a carerra

Suggestions for tile and Quartz.

Your little bathroom could be a wonderful jewel box of a room! Do think boldly! One of the most beautiful baths I have seen had a reclaimed raw edged piece of wood (marine varnish!) as a counter stretching across the width of the room, dwindling as it reached the far wall. With a hand made vessel sink on it. The walls were very dark, (You could go an intense dark gray, or use whatever accent color(s) you are using in your main room) and the ceiling was painted in a metallic paint that glowed when the interesting wall sconces were turned on. Go for a Bold statement here. It is small enough that you can get away almost anything here! And this can be done with minimal $$$$$$ if you think outside the box. Have fun with it! And post photos of your completed project!

If I go with the slab of quartz I have on hold that looks like marble, would you use the same material for the backsplash or use subway tile or something else?

I firmly believe that any look of Carrera tile will never be outdated. It is clean and classic. Keep bigger tiles for your small area to make it feel bigger.
As for the backsplash, it depends on what you're doing for a mirror. I would keep it at a 3-4" backsplash of the Quartz. Too many different patterns in a tiny space may make it feel smaller. Keep it light colored, clean and open.
What color is your island?

Also, I think the white Quartz will look beautiful on the stained espresso cabinet.

Are you saying to go bolder is to not do white cabinets or countertops?

I think it doesn't matter what color cabinet. I like the counter you picked out so now you can go bold on mirror and accessories. You could paint the walls a color and maybe add a dramatic piece of art on wall instead of the window you lack.

Your kitchen is great! Yes, what we have been speaking of will definitely flow with your kitchen. And I'm pretty sure that slab is Torquay = Perfection! Add color in your decor. This is just one idea... a little additional inspiration.

Why don't use hidden built in storage? I love using it in small spaces: built a 20cm wall from the original one. Can change WC to as it is in my pictures and can do the storage above WC and even a cabinet behind the mirror with invisible push up door, so you use the space and declutter the look and don't need a big vanity under the sink. The bathroom will look tidy and more spacious and all the things nicely hidden in a wall .. Hope I am clear :)

I don't know if you have a lowes store near you. They have beautiful cabinets and sinks. Lots of styles.

California Faucets, give her a choice for a transitional chrome or a polished nickel that goes more silver than gold. :) Maybe she will go with you for the purchase.

Coco100, no, I have used it before in homes. The Torquay quartz is beautiful with a carerra looking marble tile. Those two pieces give the feeling of a clean and transitional home. Stick with chrome or polished nickel fixtures (that look silver and not gold). It will flow smoothly into your timeless and transitional kitchen. I'd love to see it when its done!

Jolie Mur Designs - so I went to Contractor's Furnishing Mart to look at tile for my powder room and the lady that worked there said trying to match a floor tile that resembles marble to match my countertop would be too hard and they would clash so I am not sure about that. She suggested Alpi Porcelain color: Argento. What do you think of that?

actually I brought home a sample of the Alpi Argento and it has a blue cast to it so it won't work. The gal at CFM thought it was grey.

Accept the fact that everything will eventually look dated. If you are planning on being in your house long term pick what you want to live with.
Trends come and go always! In 10 years quartz counters will be outdated but enjoy them now. I accepted this fact 3 houses ago when I did a white kitchen in the 80s with butcher block and marble counters. Butcher block became passé, the marble lingered a few more years. But I still loved the workability of my kitchen. My powder room was right off the kitchen. I chose to not have it match the kitchen in color or style.
Try To go with smart choices such as water efficient 2 stage flush toilets, wall hung vanities (with storage drawers) and LED light fixtures. These are the ways of the future and will have longer appeal.
Powder rooms are the one area where you can go a bit wild with decor .

I'm sorry I'm just seeing your last post. Sorry that happened. Yes, greys can be deceiving until you get them in your lighting. If you see another idea, I am happy to help.
Everyone has their own opinions about design, textiles, etc. it must be what you love. Timeless will always be what we spoke of. There are other floor options but just make sure it flows with your kitchen even though other people say no, I'm still a yes girl :) It gives a clean transition.

Thank you for your response. I am also interested in a grey stone porcelain tile look. Could you recommend one? Since my last post, I was set on a darker espresso vanity but now I feel like I keep going back and forth between white and espresso again. I have a laundry room across the hall from my powder room which has more cabinets and it is the first room you enter from our garage. The laundry room tends to look darker and so I am wondering if I need to do the same for both rooms-being the powder room and the laundry room or if I can do something completely different for both rooms and what I should do.

I can find a little something for you in tile. No, I think the powder room should and could still go espresso. The cabinets in the laundry room can still go white because they will still flow with your kitchen AND it allows it to be brighter :)

Great! I am looking forward to your suggestion for tile. I also went and got a sample of Cambria Torquay and it is very nice and I also have that same slab of quartz still on hold at the remnant yard. I was told Cambria has a minimum $$ amount that has to be spent no matter what so I may not need that much material for the countertop to get that unless I replace another bathroom countertop with it. It is very beautiful though.
