PPF - yes, behind those front doors is all entry! And the windows are all currently the same size. Yes, we looked at keeping the configuration the same, but I thought that if we did big picture windows it would be more modern!

And, I like the orange and green suggestions!! I love orange and the thought has crossed my mind - just don't know if it's too loud.

Also, here's a pic of the original front door? It's solid wood - but don't know if it just makes it look dated or if it's cool. Also debating the idea of double doors?

The door is cool in a Jonathan Adler-deliberately-dated cool kind of way. I would try a bold/bright color on it (yellow, orange, green all come to mind) and some clean, mid-century hardware and see if ti appeals to you before ordering a new door.

The orange I showed above is a bit wild, but you got the idea.

I like the door, but notice it has a non standard backset on the lockset.

If there is nothing structurally wrong with it, I would sure consider keeping it.

PPF - I think that's just how it looks because it currently has a storm door that the previous owners put on there...but yes, the door is fine structurally! Speaking of storm door - I want it gone so badly, but my husband wants to keep it. Yikes.

Actually, I'd paint the downspout to match the siding and perhaps add a specimen plant to the landscape. Otherwise, this place is done. It's beautiful.

If you're going to replace any windows, replace these instead. Add a specimen plant. Paint the door chartreuse.

groveraxle, I like that suggestion, but we need to replace the front windows because they're original and are too drafty. Here's a shot of the front of the house - I want to replace all these windows and am leaning toward replacing them with three long panes on the left, and three on the right. I was going to center the door but if that ruins the MCM feel of the house, maybe I'll leave it.

If you keep the door, maybe when the times comes to replace the railing, have one made that echos the door.

Mag, I understand the need to replace those windows , but I would replace them with identical windows with double or triple panes. They are quintessentially MCM style, and anything else will ruin the house.

I went looking for MCM window replacements and found an interesting blog post that might be useful here. This guy had an Eichler-style house with a bazillion windows and no regular window installer could help (at reasonable cost, anyway). He found something called Indow Windows. Cool house! Please keep the horizontal line through the windows—it references the other volume of the house over the garage. And maintain the asymmetry of the front door. A bright color, some kind or orange or yellow green maybe, would be nice on the door.

Thank you everyone, for your suggestions! Always love hearing people's opinions. Groveraxle, I may look at the indow windows for the windows on the left hand side of the house...those don't bother me as much, probably because no one can see how bad they look close up. The windows everyone sees when they walk in, are these...and they look terrible. Which is why they will be replaced. I think the consensus here is to keep the original configuration...but the windows have to go.

Does anyone have any other ideas of what to do with these windows to make them look better from the outside?

The close up of these windows is not what I expected to see. I assumed they were fixed pane windows; they look like it from the outside.

That said, let me put in a word for Marvin Windows. I replaced all my windows in a 1910 craftsman bungalow about 10 years ago. Pella said they couldn't do them because I have sloped sills. Marvin made them to order, every window fit perfectly, and the install was a breeze.

There are some case studies on their website showing what they can do. Here is one that has windows that would probably work for you. I love grover's take on your home. MCM at it's best! Replace the windows with dual pane, however keep the same look. Perhaps change the ones on the right section of the house to comform to the MCM style as Grover suggested.

Okay MCM lovers - one more question - would you change the existing black iron railing to something like this wooden one? Or keep the old one?

Keep your current railing. It suits the house better than the wood slat fence. In fact, I don't even like the wood slats on the house you posted above. It hides too much.
