I agree that stone is worth the slight up-grade.

Get a price for travertine stone over old deck and use same redo travertine coping. It would be installed over the existing not replacing the tile or plaster

My plan is to replace pool plaster with a pebble finish and new tile as well.

Thank you for your suggestions. I did have one stone guy come out he quoted me almost 14k for labor only no materials. That seemed kind of high to me. But not sure how much something like that should cost. We are only talking cement and stone nothing to do with the pool.

My pool deck is similar in size to yours and didn't cost $14K for stone. I wouldn't recommend putting anything over the existing, the ground heaves and moves and over time will not look right. You will be back to square one. Take up the old and put down new. Get a few quotes, you can find stone for only a few dollars a square foot. You can also reduce the footprint if cost is too much for you and do the remaining perimeter in a pebble stone, which is less expensive.

STONE. I did stone last summer for my house and I bought the stone direct on line under "wholesale stone pool coping", my cost was about 2000K and my pool is 18x36. yours would be less.

Thank you all for comments and suggestions my pool is 18x36. The amount of stone I need is about 650ft if I don't do the patio area next to the house .
