Undercounter Lighting

After main kitchen upgrade, its time for undercounter lighting. I need to send switched power to 3 different locations for LED lighting. Source power is from kitchen lighting circuit. Is it code compliant to have a new work box in the ceiling/attic to distribute power?

As long as the box remains accessible (it doesn't have to be easily accessible, just accessible without removing any permanent part of the structure) then it's fine.

That's for under cab lighting.

I suspect that's what he meant, but it doesn't change the answer to the question regardless of where the lighting is going.
