Wife's idea1: floor mirror on the wall opposite dining, and some sort of painting above the entryway table

I love this console table from crate and barrel and actually have the smaller one. This one is 7 ft long. I would place this on the entry wall. With a large rug in the entryway. Along with a statement making chandelier.

I would probably pick a chandelier that has more presence to it than the crystal one you have.

The arches provide a visual and architectural definition of the space. I see it as being 2 distinct areas and I would put a shallow cabinet or console right in front of the dining room, with a mirror or art above and a couple of lamps. Where you currently have a console in front of the door, I would put a bench with, again, a large mirror or piece of art above.

If you mean a leaning wall mirror, I would not do it. They are ok in a closet or a bedroom but I wouldn't want it there. It serves no purpose and the placement of it seems awkward.

Here's a few examples of using a mirror behind a bench, if you go that route. I don't think I would put two mirrors in that hallway, it might take on a fun house effect, lol. But that is just MY opinion, and hopefully you go with what YOU like.

If you have kids, I would not lean a large mirror against the wall, and not behind a bench. I know it looks cool but I can imagine someone sitting on the bench and it pushes against the mirror and breaks....

You could HANG a large mirror on the wall, though, over a table. That 7ft table could handle a large mirror or painting over it....

I can't imagine the owners of every one of these pictures NOT securing those mirrors to the wall. I could be wrong, but even the leaning mirrors must be secured to the wall.

I agree. But not sure I'd want a bench in front of one unless it was up above it.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. We've decided to go with: keep the entryway table, place painting/decor above it on the wall. Place a bench with a large mirror over (hung vs standing+anchored).

I might lower the chandelier a few chain lengths. The photos don't do it justice.

Before you hang a mirror, ask yourself what it will reflect. Is it something you want to see twice?

I like the idea of glass doors... probably obscured, sand blasted or reed glass ..... natural light is always a good thing!

If it were me, I'd put books. I can never have enough bookcases, it seems :)
