Looks to be burlap to me. Does that go with the beddiing and headboard? My first issue is the tab tops - dated looking. I think you'll need to raise the rods, so just start looking for drapes. Online sources are usually where you go to find longer lengths.

Since it seems that you sew, how about making 3 Euro shams to put at the head of the bed? Euro shams are 27 x 27".

I don't sew....yet! I signed up for sewing classes yesterday, so that I can buy a machine and have more choices in curtains, etc. What color shams would you suggest, Carolyn (and I was hoping you'd chime in!)? Deco - the curtains are linen. I'm wary of buying online because of not being able to see the exact color.

I would suggest an upholstered bench or chair at the vanity as well as a larger mirror to make the vanity more functional. I'd also like to see more coordinated bedding in fabrics that contrast more with your beige headboard. Notice how the light colored bedding "pops" against the headboard in this inspiration photo.

Definitely raise the curtains...the higher the more formal it will look. I think you should change the curtains completely. Shop for extra long drapes, or make them if possible. Try a complementary pattern to add interest to the room, everything seems to be plain

epmlassie, for the euro shams I would repeat the color from the foot of the bed. But since you're thinking of changing bedding, I'd like you to consider a gray and yellow bedroom which seems more updated than the colors you now have. And actually, I would start with a white quilt, not gray, yellow, or blue.

I'd add the three euro shams in yellow or maybe 2 in yellow and one in gray, and then make a bed runner with your new sewing skills. If you don't like yellow, use a color or two that you do like.

A bed runner is first cousin to a table runner and instead of running across a table, it runs across the foot of the bed. You can easily make one with 54" wide fabric. Buy enough to go across the top of your bed and a foot over the edge. You'll need enough for two sides. Put batting between the front and back. You can tack it here and there to hold the batting in place. When finished, fold it into thirds and run it across the foot of the bed. It's like one of those things that michigammemom showed in a photo above.

Now that you mention that you are open to new curtains, I suggest arched top panels on medallions. They can be one width starting from a quarter-way into the window or full width and held back with tassel tiebacks. Be sure that the drapes are lined...it adds body and cuts the light coming through the fabric which gives a richer look. It will also intensify the color of the fabric. Also, the we use Euros on king size beds. I'm not sure that your bed is a king so maybe use two shams with a neck roll or small bolster in front of them.

I'm not a huge fan of tons of decorative pillows on a bed. But I like the idea of a bed runner. Carolyn - I have a greyNd gold theme in the living area, so continuing it in this bedroom would be great. I just wonder if grey and yello would go with thedeel cream of the walls. Thanks everyone.

The euros are actually more than just decorative. They are there to cover up the pillows you sleep on which get rumpled and not so great looking. Placing the accent color at the both ends of the bed is a good look. What is the brand and name of the paint on your walls?

Carolins - good to see you here! The chair will stay in the bedroom. There won't be room for it downstairs once I get the new sofa. I will post pix of the living room when done. The paint color is SW Crescent Cream.

Crescent Cream is a pale apricot that would be happy living with grays, but not with a lemony yellow. It would also go with browns and blues.
It looks particularly nice with SW Rain.

Okay, so... it's a bit pinker than it looks on screen. I just picked a creamy yellow that I thought resembled your wall colour. Just shows how different these colours look on screen. But you get the point. If the brown chair is staying in the bedroom, you'll have to take that into consideration. Blue will work with both brown and your Crescent Cream.

Sherwin Williams suggest Festoon Aqua, which seems to be a light blue/aqua colour (I could be wrong of course). So if you for instance choose curtain fabric with a colour like that in it, a bedspread or throw (I think you may have already found one) and make up the euro shams that Carolyn suggested with that blueish/aqua... will look wonderful and fresh.

Oh, and when you feel like picking up the paintbrush again... would it be an idea to paint the recessed part of the ceiling crescent cream too?

Carolin/carolyn - those 2 SW paint colors are right beside each other on the spectrum, and match my thinking: that a slate blue might be good. I'm so happy that my gut wasn't way off! OK, my first suggestions were off, but I recovered a little. I also toyed with the idea of a seafoam green contrast when I found this fabric a couple of weeks ago. What does my team think of this? I don't trust my view online of the colors as the paint on my screen looks lavender. Go figure. Let's see what others think. I do agree in theory that a slate blue would go with your wall color, but I can't comment regarding the colors online.
