17 + 21 = 38" Add a few inches on to that to accommodate the height of the room. Both of those sized fixtures are too large for the room.

Since technically its 20ft wide doesnt mean theres 20 ft of clearance from the floor to the ceiling. I think the formula for foyer is different.

It's hard for me to see what the proportions are my guess is the 60 inches would look like my rendering so maybe I'd go for 48🤔

I like to visualize a person so a 4ft person vs 5 ft person laying down in the air lol thats your width at the widest point ...since it tapers down you could go with a bit wider it won't look as heavy as if it were square

I did one a little larger than the other

Hard for me to scale it ...maybe you can measure the top of the banister over the hallway it is likely about 3-4 ft

@Alexis Newmark that's a beautiful chandelier and I disagree with the comment that it's too modern for your home. I like that you switched from gold to black to relate to your handrails.

You asked for advice on the width of the chandelier, but what about it's length? Shouldn't that also be proportional to the space? According to the article below, the formula would be to multiply the foyer height in feet by 2.5 and convert to inches. So for a 20ft foyer, get a 50" long chandelier; 18ft foyer, 45" long. As with diameters, I'd consider these guidelines with plus being better than minus.

There is guidance on hanging the chandelier so it's bottom is level with the top of the first floor, slightly lower than the floor of the second floor. There are other tips on hanging a chandelier in a two-story foyer.

The flooring is the issue.. otherwise chandelier is fine. Hardwood flooring throughout would be better.

Once again I disagree. There is every reason for the flooring in a foyer to be more resistant to water and wear than the flooring in adjacent rooms. Real or faux stone or porcelain tile is quite appropriate. I moved into a house with 60-year-old solid wood flooring in the entry/living room, and it was worn near the front door. If I had the money it should have been replaced.

That house was small so it may have been best to replace all the wood flooring on the main floor. But this house is quite large and there is no need to try to make it feel bigger with a single flooring throughout. If there is a desire for an upgrade, black and white marble would be superior to extending the wood.

I'd say go for the 60in one. The bigger the chandelier, the better!
