I don't think you should match the design elements of the fireplace and the range hood. They should complement but not match.

Geez, don't introduce any curved corners into the design of the fireplace. The curves may fight with the vaulted element in the room.

• If it's going to be a wood burning fireplace think about how you plan to screen the embers BEFORE YOU BUILD THE FIREPLACE so the elements work together.
• If you plan to mount a TV over the fireplace work out the size and draw up the elevation.

No, don't do that. If your elements aren't at the center of a vault, creatig focal points out of them always looks wrong and awkward. Which is why retrofitted vaults always create more problems than they solve.

Thanks Beverly. You always have excellent helpful info. I thought the curved with the straight square up looked kind of nice in the inspiration picture. I do want a mantle that sticks out so I can hang my kids stockings and put Christmas garland on it. Priorities. Hah and as far as coordinate range hood I meant coordinate whether it tapers or goes straight up etc. any addl thoughts on range hood design?
