The chandelier is pretty. As for low, I'm not sure. I know some like it low, but it's also a personal preference. I prefer mine higher so that when I get up to get something from the table, I don't bump my head on the chandelier.

I do like your round table in that 3 angled wall area. good use of space. The light should be 30"- 36" above the table as a general rule. You should not hit you head on the light if you push your chair out to get up. :)

Maybe try a different centerpiece that picks up on the silver of the chandelier and isn't quite so high - the current tall centerpiece takes the focus off the lovely chandelier. Also I would get larger art work for one wall (or hang the 2 current pieces on the same wall) and possibly a mirror for the other wall. The round table in that space works nicely

HI -- The chandelier looks good - very nice . It should hang 5 feet from the floor to the bottom of the fixture -- it actually looks about right . Re hang the two pictures one over the other on that side wall - you will have to lower the one a bit first -- then find a big painting for that back wall . For a center arrangement you could have a cluster of crystal and glass candle sticks of all sizes or just a big bowl with several orchids - but not just one lone thing .

HI -- I forgot to add -- beef up those baseboards to match the size of the ceiling crown trim. That would add balance and be more up to date .

Chandelier looks right to me.

I think I'd add some bolder artwork or have a more dramatic wall color to provide some drama to better tie-in the chandelier.

Some people don't like an area rug on top of carpet, but it may be a way to set off the space and add color/pattern/texture- especially if the wall color can't be changed easily if it's an open space.

As mentioned, a chandelier should measure 30-36" above the table surface. The vignette looks a bit crowded due to the number of chairs stacked around the table. Can you take a couple away and place them elsewhere until you need them to serve a larger group? In this photo, I used 6 chairs around the table. Two more are placed against the wall until needed.

Robin, great idea! Usually do have two chairs placed elsewhere in the house. This vignette is ""leftover" from Christmas.

I don't think it looks at all low. Have you measured it ? If you are unhappy with the centerpiece's height relative to the chandalier- get a lower larger centerpiece .

Sbrustein....The lighting specialist suggested its height for over the table. I just think it looks too big. Lower, larger centerpiece might balance it out a bit. Will Try one suggestion of a cluster of a variety of crystal candlesticks to add to the sparkle of the chandelier. Or, may try a low bowl of orchids for color..

OTM.... How much would you raise it??

The centerpiece is too high. I would replace it with this giant clamshell, holding a small plant instead of the fruit shown in the attached photo. It is available thru Ballard Designs online.

Stack those two pictures and look for another larger one to coordinate for the other wall.

I would say from what it looks like you don't really need art on the walls. You will want people to focus on your nice chandelier and I agree with whoever said to get a different centerpiece

Table is 48" in diameter. The chandelier is "32 inches in diameter. It is hung 29 inches above the table. Guess that makes it at least one to six inches too low by some suggestions???

Yes, the chandelier should be 30-36" above the table. Maybe it looks low because the floral arrangement is high!

Pcmom1. The clam shell could work to hold a variety of orchids. As we live in FL, this would be perfect. Thanks for another good suggestion.

As a lighting specialist, I will second the comments about 30-36" off of the table top. That IS the right height. You're free to move within that space, but it is highly recommended to keep it there. The overall width should be no smaller than half the width of the table beneath it, and no larger than the table width minus 12".

looks a tad bit low, if you use this area a lot, then maybe raise it a bit, and if someone tall is coming over, make sure they sit outside with the dogs! Jk!!! Raising it 10''-12'' is not a bad idea!

Seem to be OK on width. Will raise it a couple of inches...
Got a chuckle about the tall folks eating outside. Had 20 for Christmas dinner, and some were, indeed, seated outside...

Bea - May I suggest replacing the black shades on your chandelier with another color? Perhaps red or some other color that moves you since you have red in the flower arrangement. I'd remove the pedestal also. Lovely room!

Use a lower centerpiece so that it doesn't compete with the light. A colorful glass bowl would do that and bring color at the same time. Some larger paintings on the wall would help with the color and balance also.

I love your chandelier, table and chairs; however, not together. Everything looks " piecey."
It's as if you have one chandelier arm for each chair. Lots of " arms and legs," is what I see.
But I always say go with what you love, that's all that matters.

I love the chandelier and the table and chairs just as they are. Do not change out the black shades for another color. The black shades are dramatic! THAT is a dining table I would love to be seated at! It would be nice if you can pull the table and chairs a little further out of the corner. Find another place for those two pieces of art and get larger, more colorful artwork. Use a beautiful bowl such as the one printesa added just above. Either pick your centerpiece and use it to inspire your choice of artwork or the other way around. I would use the least used color from the artwork as my inspiration for the centerpiece. The colors do not have to be the exact same shade. If you have a low buffet or console that is near the table I think that will help to ground the table and you won't need a rug. If that room gets enough natural light to make a pot plant happy, add a large pot plant on the other wall. Otherwise try a tall vase in a neutral color so it won't compete with the artwork. You paint and carpet are neutral enough to support a lot more color. :)

Not too low. Too many chairs for the table. Art too small Paint walls dramatic color ie. chocolate or coral, hang pictures together or larger black and white photos.

I love the idea of a low colorful bowl and perhaps some new colorful artwork if you r looking for a punch of color. The walls & carpet r neutral and could support more color - your current art work just picks up the current colors in the room and doesn't add additional color - also you could go with larger artwork

Pcmom...have moved out two chairs, removed the pedestal and centerpiece. Will switch out some artwork and take off the shades to give you a better look. Will post more pictures. Hadn't thought of wallpaper.. Mmmmm..

Second angle before I moved anything

Could you post a photo with centerpiece removed and just 4 chairs? I think the single cabinet 'unbalances' the space because you have it on one angled wall and not a matching one on the other. Is there another place for this piece? What about a thin buffet or console table on this wall with a great mirror or art? You could put some wonderful candles and a bowl or tray and other wall for some colorful art

Art is very personal but here are a couple of ideas that would introduce some color

You have a line thru the middle of the room with the flowers lined up with the light fixture. And both sides look the same. 1st, asymetrical bowlor other colorful artpiece on the table as some others have posted. 2nd, fill up thewalls with more art. I would do some smaller pieces onone wall and a large piece on the other wall. And more color to balance the color on the table.

Oh, I like the blue bowl and the pic with the tree. Kind of a water theme, kind of goes witth the glass table, and is anchored by the black chairs.

If you choose one wall and put a big modern painting the fixture will look more proportional. I believe the hight is perfect. Also, the fixture might look better with out the shades.

Max is correct! This rooms needs more. It isn't the chandelier. Consider artwork, wallpaper, texture.... And also, contrary too popular opinion the proper height if a chandelier is 25-30" above a dining table.

Stacked two butterfly prints on left wall, added antique watercolor on right wall, took away two chairs, took off shades, put antique Imari bowl in center of table with greenery. Room seems more interesting. Still no color.

Oh, also raised the chandelier about six inches.

Beautiful chandelier, it looks like Fine Art Lamps. It is definitely not too low. As was mentioned earlier, 30" from the bottom of the fixture to the top of the table is standard. I also agree the art is a little under-scaled.

This area is really just a small cut back for the table, and the walls would be overwhelmed by bigger art....though I'd love it. Attaching picture of adjoining LR wall.

Dining area is just an architectural niche off the living room. Big art would be out of scale. Have one large piece in adjoining living room

Typically a nice hanging height is around 6'-0" above the finished floor or just below that, you want to be able to admire the light without people hitting their head on it.

You might try placing small striped or checkered (or a light colored pattern to your taste) lumbar pillows on your black chairs to add some color, interest and comfort.
