Shower is more convenient, quick, and easy. Don'f have time, nor patience for slipping and sliding in a tub.

Agreed on BOTH, if you have the space. If not, shower for it's convenience and you'll probably use it more than a luxurious soaking tub. Ah, get both!

I love my bath time now and then. Those free standing tubs are beautiful but not so functional. Where do you put shampoo & soap, etc?

If you have the space for both, go for it. If not, a shower is more convenient, as others have said.

I voted for both, but if my choice to have only one, I'd choose a bath. I can wash my hair in the kitchen sink, but I can't soak, snooze or relax in a shower.

I have both, but I don't know if I've ever used the bathtub..I think I used it once in 7 years..my girls like to use it to make foam by using the jets..It's a pain to clean up and it takes a lot of water to fill up at an acceptable level.

I created a huge 75"x45" two person shower in my master in my last house and ditched the silly Jacuzzi tub that was taking up space. In the house we are building we are doing the same in the master bath. There a plenty of bath tubs in the other bathrooms.

We have used our oversized whirlpool tub in the master bath less than 10 times in the 25 years since we built the house. I'd rather have a big, nice shower.

i love baths, but showers are quicker, take less time, and you don't have to wait for the tub to fill!

Love the look of a nice free standing bathtub but I really take only showers !

Shower most days ... relaxing, bubble soak at least once per week.

Showers are wonderful for a quick refresher. However, I am a senior with joint problems.
A soaking hot bath with lavender is relaxing for a restful sleep.

Shower. Life is too short to spend it lollygagging in the bathroom.

Shower for me. The bathtubs in my last two homes NEVER got used. Interestingly, last month I was touring model homes and none of the master baths had tubs, showers only.

I refuse to take a bath in my apartment ever! No matter how well I clean it...crud still comes out if the jets. I love claw foot and platform tubs. However I feel taking a bath is truly just soaking in your own filth lol if I took a bath I'd rinse off quickly afterwards. I like the idea of a tub and a separate shower.

Separate tub and shower. Make the tub a small deep soaking tub so you can be submerged but not in a lake wasting a huge amount of water.

Both. Like one of the other commenters I have joint problems so I usually take a nice warm bath at least once a week in the colder months just to help manage pain and stiffness. If I had to choose just one or the other, I'd go with a shower though. I never feel like I get properly clean with just a bath, and I never mastered the art of washing my hair in the bath. (I lived places that only had bathtubs long enough that you'd think I would have figured out the trick, but no. Just never felt like my hair was as clean as with a shower.)

My ideal is a level entry shower that's not enormously huge (I do not need to have parties in my shower) but big enough that you're not bumping a wall or the door every time you turn around, and a deep tub that's comfortable to sit/lounge in. (Which may not actually be the largest deep tub available. I don't want to be all scrunched up but I don't want to feel like I'm in a swimming pool either. Shouldn't take all week just to run a bath.)

I love taking a bath. We are building a new home and I will not put a jacuzzi tub in again! Cleaning the jets and tub was awful.

Our first home, a beautiful little 1920's Craftsman, had one bathroom with a claw foot bathtub set against a sloping roof wall with a hand-held shower attachment that you could only use sitting down. We lived in that house, taking baths daily, for over 10 years. I still miss that beautiful house, though it became too small for our family. Now for efficiency I take showers more often than baths, but I still love a good relaxing soak. So if I really had to choose between a house without a stand up shower and a house without a bathtub, I think I might choose the solo bath again. But I'm really happy no one is forcing me to make that choice.

Definitely showers. I don't like sitting in tepid, dirty bath water. And unless you really turn the heater up, it's cold!

I prefer showers only buy went ahead and included space for a soaking tub for medicinal baths.

I choose Both I use the shower more often offcourse but they're times when i just want to relax my muscles n feel weightless that can only be done in a soaking tub.

Aging in place dictates a large roll in shower w/linear drain & bench. A bathtub of any depth becomes difficult (if not dangerous) to navigate. Our tub will go in the guest bath so we have one for the grands.

When it is time to sell your home, buyers will want that tub. Also, only bathrooms with
tub, shower and toilet are considered a "full bath". Others are considered a half bath.
Some buyers will not even look at a house unless it has at least one full bath.
I had one bathroom in the old farmhouse I purchased 40 years ago. Today it has
one full bath in the laundry room. A created spa with clawfoot tub, towel warmers,
the works for the lady of the house. Also, I put in a small beautiful powder room.
Upstairs for the children or guests, I installed a 1/2 bath (shower, sink, toilet.

We love the bathtub! We find that many people still like to soak in a steeping bath or whirlpool for the ultimate form of relaxation.

Eight minutes for a shower, and eighteen minutes for a hot bath. Speed versus enjoyment methinks!

@Dolly Pettie: For reasons I cannot explain, what counts as a full bath is different in different real estate markets. In our area a full bath has either a shower or a bathtub or both--they are all counted the same for official listings. A half bath is a powder room. There seems to be no consistency about these definitions across the U.S.

Both! A hot shower is great when you're in a hurry; a hot bath is great when you are most decidedly not! But definitely a soaker tub over a jacuzzi tub-- had a jacuzzi tub in my last house and hated cleaning the jets.

Showers are great. The dirt travels straight into the drain. I couldn't imagine not having a shower. However, bath tubs are so relaxing and comfortable. I'd have to say both. I wouldn't want to be obligated to always use a bath tub though. Whereas, you can always use a shower with no problem.

I have a whirlpool tub but have never used it. The tub only gets used to wash the dog. My last house we removed the tub and put in a walk in shower. No problem selling it. This house has three bathrooms, two with showers and one with the tub.

Being Physically challenged, I much prefer a roll-in shower. With tubs, I'd need help getting in and out, there's great risk of falling in tubs too. I've been searching for apartments and/or houses that has roll-in showers but hard to find cause tubs are so much cheaper to put in. :-(

My vote was BOTH! Shower for those quick in, quick out times. Baths for that me-time with some candles and a glass of wine. :) But if I had to pick ONE, more practical would be the shower. Very nice too!

Shower! Soaking in ones dirty bath water is not appealing at all.

If the space allows and budget allow, both. If you can only choose one, than definitely shower. A big shower in the master bath is a huge selling point to most. Soaker tubs are nice in thought, but rarely used by most. Here is one we remodeled recently

Each rain head and the handheld are all on separate valves. Most of our customers are choosing this over a small shower with soaker tub or just stand alone tub.

Recently marketed my home for sale. Hands down, the modern young buyers want the step in shower off the master or main bedroom. I have a huge claw tub I used nearly every night to unwind. Also, I bathed my children & dirty grandkids in this Kohler 1977 tub. Kids need to soak to really get clean. The younger generation is too lazy to walk over to the big laundry room with the huge step in shower/bath.

I have to have both. Shower for actual cleaning because of hair, but my favorite nightly routine (especially in the winter) is a long bubble bath with a glass of wine in one hand and my kindle in the other. Makes for a perfect night's sleep. Drives me crazy when we travel if there is only a shower which a lot of hotels are going to. We have to ask at booking for a room with both.
