Designed by renowned architect and 'sacred geometer' David Yarbrough, this sacred space in Corbett, Oregon combines three functions under one roof: a Chinese medicine healing arts center, a community center, and a 1400 SF new home. An earth plaster, cedar chip, clay slip, natural wood slat wall system combines traditional construction techniques with energy efficiency to create a healthy environment for denizens, care providers, and patients. This 9' x 11' space was designed as a sitting area. The 54"w x 72"h wrought iron screen hanging above the small sofa adds height and interest to the area. Flanking the screen are two custom floral arrangement by Shannon Loves Flowers. The sound of water from the fountain adds an additional element to the serene environment. This rustic retreat in central Oregon is loaded with modern amenities. Timber frame and log houses often conjure notions of remote rustic outposts located in solitary surroundings of open grasslands or mature woodlands. When the owner approached MossCreek to design a timber-framed log home on a less than one acre site in an upscale Oregon golf community, the principle of the firm, Allen Halcomb, was intrigued. Bend, OR, on the eastern side of the Cascades Mountains, has an arid desert climate, creating an ideal environment for a Tuscan influenced exterior. Photo: Roger Wade
