A privately owned project on 14.7 acres of land about 1,000 feet above the Hamakua coast about 20 miles outside of Hilo. The land has forest and a raging river and has clear views for as far as the eye can see. Design concept created by the owners in conjunction with the Teak Bali design team. The clients had a clear vision for lots of Lanai space as well as a Breezeway down the middle of the structure. The house was designed in a way where the Hamakua Winds could condition the entire house by opening the appropriate windows. This project is for personal use.

In our personal environment, this is reflected in the search for the elegantly simple: people want to be surrounded by things which communicate calm, clarity and concentration on the essential. In conjunction with VALAIS LEICHT developed the new planning concept EVO.The seamless transition from worktop to fronts is sensational: the virtually invisible worktop with its surrounding metal edge has a flush finish with the fronts and gives the kitchen an exceedingly puristic air. The material mix too makes the ensemble all the more exciting: structured genuine wood meets velvety matt lacquer, the warm tone of the wood meets the cooler air of the carbon grey – a skilful combination of contrasts, also essential in the new planning concept.

This unique screened porch located in Darnestown, Maryland provides its hard-working homeowner with an abundance of outdoor space. Situated on a vast wooded lot, the views are absolutely stunning. The elevated sun deck wraps around the complete rear facade the home and features unique cut-outs and a sizable screen room. To successfully preserve the lot's lively green view, a delicate SCREENEZE screening system was used in the screened room in conjunction with WOLF vinyl railings and Deckorators Classic Balusters. The 3/4" round balusters, which are also found around the deck's organic perimeter, blend in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. AZEK low-maintenance PVC decking serves as the basis of both the deck and the top cop on the handrail system. Multiple sliding doors give access to the screened-in porch and deck, and all of the materials used in the build are low-maintenance.

Hired in conjunction with John Lum Architects, RBD collaborated in the redesign of this three bedroom, four bath home for an art savvy family of four in Noe Valley. RBD's key contributions include the design and decoration of the kitchen breakfast nook, fireplace, four bathrooms and reconfiguration of the existing master bathroom and downstairs guest room/family room. The reconfiguration of the master bathroom creates a more open layout while also featuring a custom danish modern hairpin leg vanity as its focal point. Downstairs, the guest room/family room, designed for an open, one-room concept, showcases custom built-in millwork for excellent TV watching and game storage. Finishing off the space architecturally, a custom built-in walnut entry bench and coat cabinet help modestly accentuate their secondary entry into the home given this is the family's main entrance. Working on an extremely tight budget, RBD mixed low and high end finishes and fixtures to achieve a high end overall look without breaking the bank. Kitchen - contemporary kitchen idea in Charlotte

Working in conjunction with Urban Gardenscapes who hired us to rebuild a back yard deck with Trex. We completely rebuilt this structure with new pressure treated framing and beams and topped it with Beach Dune Trex material. Extending the deck across to the fence line provided extra space for gatherings and bbqs. We built new stairs and reused the railings. Urban Gardenscapes built some new planters which enhance the finish space. In this photo you see the new interlock Urban Gardenscapes installed to replace the rubber tiles(seen in previous pictures) .

When the developer found this brownstone on the Upper Westside he immediately researched and found its potential for expansion. We were hired to maximize the existing brownstone and turn it from its current existence as 5 individual apartments into a large luxury single family home. The existing building was extended 16 feet into the rear yard and a new sixth story was added along with an occupied roof. The project was not a complete gut renovation, the character of the parlor floor was maintained, along with the original front facade, windows, shutters, and fireplaces throughout. A new solid oak stair was built from the garden floor to the roof in conjunction with a small supplemental passenger elevator directly adjacent to the staircase. The new brick rear facade features oversized windows; one special aspect of which is the folding window wall at the ground level that can be completely opened to the garden. The goal to keep the original character of the brownstone yet to update it with modern touches can be seen throughout the house. The large kitchen has Italian lacquer cabinetry with walnut and glass accents, white quartz counters and backsplash and a Calcutta gold arabesque mosaic accent wall. On the parlor floor a custom wetbar, large closet and powder room are housed in a new floor to ceiling wood paneled core. The master bathroom contains a large freestanding tub, a glass enclosed white marbled steam shower, and grey wood vanities accented by a white marble floral mosaic. The new forth floor front room is highlighted by a unique sloped skylight that offers wide skyline views. The house is topped off with a glass stair enclosure that contains an integrated window seat offering views of the roof and an intimate space to relax in the sun.

This modern home, near Cedar Lake, built in 1900, was originally a corner store. A massive conversion transformed the home into a spacious, multi-level residence in the 1990’s. However, the home’s lot was unusually steep and overgrown with vegetation. In addition, there were concerns about soil erosion and water intrusion to the house. The homeowners wanted to resolve these issues and create a much more useable outdoor area for family and pets. Castle, in conjunction with Field Outdoor Spaces, designed and built a large deck area in the back yard of the home, which includes a detached screen porch and a bar & grill area under a cedar pergola. The previous, small deck was demolished and the sliding door replaced with a window. A new glass sliding door was inserted along a perpendicular wall to connect the home’s interior kitchen to the backyard oasis. The screen house doors are made from six custom screen panels, attached to a top mount, soft-close track. Inside the screen porch, a patio heater allows the family to enjoy this space much of the year. Concrete was the material chosen for the outdoor countertops, to ensure it lasts several years in Minnesota’s always-changing climate. Trex decking was used throughout, along with red cedar porch, pergola and privacy lattice detailing. The front entry of the home was also updated to include a large, open porch with access to the newly landscaped yard. Cable railings from Loftus Iron add to the contemporary style of the home, including a gate feature at the top of the front steps to contain the family pets when they’re let out into the yard.
