It began with a huge hole in our backyard that was quickly surrounded by cement block and a promise of good things to come. It was worth it. We moved into our first-floor great room and kitchen over the Holidays. It’s a warm, bright, open space that makes entertaining friends and family easy. And it’s big enough to comfortably make breakfast on busy mornings. We even have our very own coffee and tea stations! I’ve also decided to remodel the first-floor bath. And to demonstrate my commitment I’ve taken everything out – walls, ceiling, flooring – right down to the studs. The old bath will be transformed into a warm, comfortable ¾ bath, perfectly located in the center of the first floor for easy traffic flow. I’ve decided to do the tiling myself – a daunting task that I don’t take lightly. But I find it quite relaxing. We’ll keep you posted on that!

Designed intentionally for aging in place, the home incorporates zero-threshold access from the garage, wide halls and doorways, reinforced wall blocking for future grab bars, and infrastructure for a future elevator—ensuring long-term comfort without compromising design. Clad in dark painted board-and-batten siding, the exterior minimizes visual scale and allows the home to recede quietly into the landscape. Recessed balconies and façade elements are wrapped in warm wood-look siding, adding depth and contrast while bringing warmth into the interior. At night, light spills softly from within, and the cabin glows along the shoreline—welcoming, calm, and enduring.

This graceful, curved staircase sets the tone for this elegant residence. White oak curved treads flow upward, guided by precision-crafted custom handrails. Vertical black metal balusters add contemporary detail while maintaining the traditional curved form's timeless appeal. During the holidays, the staircase becomes even more spectacular, adorned with festive pine garland and twinkling lights that follow the graceful curve. This fireplace elevation demonstrates the art of balancing bold materials with technical precision. To create a seamless, high-end look, we designed a floor-to-ceiling surround using polished slab material with strategic Schluter trim detailing for clean, professional edges. The design features a sophisticated interplay of textures, pairing the reflective, polished wall with a matte black slab hearth. Anchoring the space is a linear modern fireplace and a large-scale, sculptural tiered chandelier that adds vertical interest and luxury. Every dimension, from the 93-inch height above the floor to the specific slab grid, was meticulously calculated to ensure the fireplace serves as a balanced, architectural anchor for the living area.
