From tear out to completion, the usual challenges of steel stud & concrete construction and special condo bylaw requirements were easily handled by our team of certified professionals. The creative use of millwork beams provided hidden channels to conceal electrical wiring and thus permit the addition of ceiling lighting where there had previously been none – a much needed design element for our clients who are avid readers and enjoy their art collection. All surface materials were chosen to provide high performance and low maintenance as well as delivering a WOW factor aesthetic. This includes the engineered hardwood flooring throughout; the porcelain tile flooring in the three bathrooms and two shower enclosures; granite counters in the kitchen, bathrooms and office credenza; all cabinetry materials; as well as the fabrics on upholstered furniture and area rugs. Many families ponder the idea of adding extra living space for a few years before they are actually ready to remodel. Then, all-of-the sudden, something will happen that makes them realize that they can’t wait any longer. In the case of this remodeling story, it was the snowstorm of 2016 that spurred the homeowners into action. As the family was stuck in the house with nowhere to go, they longed for more space. The parents longed for a getaway spot for themselves that could also double as a hangout area for the kids and their friends. As they considered their options, there was one clear choice…to renovate the detached garage. The detached garage previously functioned as a workshop and storage room and offered plenty of square footage to create a family room, kitchenette, and full bath. It’s location right beside the outdoor kitchen made it an ideal spot for entertaining and provided an easily accessible bathroom during the summertime. Even the canine family members get to enjoy it as they have their own personal entrance, through a bathroom doggie door. Our design team listened carefully to our client’s wishes to create a space that had a modern rustic feel and found selections that fit their aesthetic perfectly. To set the tone, Blackstone Oak luxury vinyl plank flooring was installed throughout. The kitchenette area features Maple Shaker style cabinets in a pecan shell stain, Uba Tuba granite countertops, and an eye-catching amber glass and antique bronze pulley sconce. Rather than use just an ordinary door for the bathroom entry, a gorgeous Knotty Alder barn door creates a stunning focal point of the room. The fantastic selections continue in the full bath. A reclaimed wood double vanity with a gray washed pine finish anchors the room. White, semi-recessed sinks with chrome faucets add some contemporary accents, while the glass and oil-rubbed bronze mini pendant lights are a balance between both rustic and modern. The design called for taking the shower tile to the ceiling and it really paid off. A sliced pebble tile floor in the shower is curbed with Uba Tuba granite, creating a clean line and another accent detail. The new multi-functional space looks like a natural extension of their home, with its matching exterior lights, new windows, doors, and sliders. And with winter approaching and snow on the way, this family is ready to hunker down and ride out the storm in comfort and warmth. When summer arrives, they have a designated bathroom for outdoor entertaining and a wonderful area for guests to hang out. It was a pleasure to create this beautiful remodel for our clients and we hope that they continue to enjoy it for many years to come.

While we often see inspiration for stunning two-story foyers, smaller entryways can also be beautifully decorated in a simple yet elegant manner. Take a look at this foyer! With 9-foot ceilings, the homeowner opted for a modern flush mount light that doesn’t hang too low. Though it may not be a typical "statement piece," it serves as a stylish, minimalist fixture. The Rogue flush mount in brass by Maxim Lighting is perfect for welcoming guests and complements the hallways throughout the home. At the end of the entryway hall, a simple 2-light picture light by Quorum Lighting will highlight artwork once the homeowners move in. While the space is currently unfurnished, you can easily envision a beautiful piece of art illuminated by the stunning fixture, along with an entryway table on the left wall adorned with vases and other decorative elements of their choice. This entryway proves that you don’t need a large foyer to create a warm and inviting entryway in your home!

After remodeling their 1905 Craftsman house, the homeowners were ready to tackle the yard. The front was easily spruced up with a new walkway and plantings, but the steep, wooded backyard was a much bigger challenge. Rebuilding a failing retaining wall was the first step to creating access to the previously overgrown space. Concrete patios with natural stone steps provide space for a hot tub and fire pit, completely transforming the dangerous eyesore.

The dining rooms 200 piece custom chandelier in champaigne gold incorporates hand-blown glass shades with real gold in the glass, and acts as a mobile - the spines rotate easily into place. The table is a one-of-a-kind, 10' long, 4" thick single slab of wood atop a custom gold metal base. The painting at the end of the table is bespoke and by Atlanta artist Kelly Daniels. The marble wall covering to the left leads to the homes service areas and family entry area.

This Woodways storage unit is a creative take on mudroom storage. Utilizing internal storage solutions allows for a sleek and uncluttered look. This Timber Tech low maintenance deck and Belgard paver patio were custom designed and built by Bolingbrook, IL deck designer, Archadeck of Chicagoland.

We shared the Living Room of this Highlands home with you last week, and now it is time for the Foyer and Dining Room. As you recall, we flipped the Living and Dining Rooms to make a better flow for entertaining. The Foyer is a large space so we added a sleek console with a marble top and flanked it with two shaped chairs that can also serve as dining chairs. We added a lovely hand knotted rug at the double front door that sets the color palette for the entire Main Floor. In the Dining Room, we went with a 54″ round table with a leaf. We updated the fireplace surround with a smokey carrara marble while retaining the original mantle. We added marble consoles in the recessed areas flanking the fireplace for display. My favorite piece in the room is the china hutch with antiqued glass back and leather clad drawers. There is a Sunroom off of the Dining Room that also serves as an Office. For privacy, we added functioning drapery panels that can easily hide things when entertaining. For a bit of drama, we painted the walls Sherwin Williams’ Moth Wing (SW9174). We wanted to preserve the original features of these spaces – rich hardwood floors, antique lighting, and ornate mantle – while updating the furnishings in both style and function. All of the spaces work well together – whether it is a quiet night at home or pre-Derby party. Enjoy!

Reminiscent of gabled stone and shake houses found dotted across the picturesque countryside of The United Kingdom, Two Creeks brings the best of English Country style “across the pond,” and updates it for functionality. From the European courtyard at the front of the house, to the sweeping circular staircase found just inside the entrance, everything about Two Creeks speaks of the quality and style of the past. This "Dream" room was designed for a young girl, which she can easily grow into with a few simple changes in bedding and accents. Cole & Son's Woods and Stars was selected as a feature wall in a pretty pale blue, a nod to the surrounding woods and adding an ethereal touch. The ceiling was painted to match the walls, for a fully enveloped feeling. Rainbows and Unicorns abound in this fantasy forest. A secret playroom hides behind the spare closet's doors, with a dreamy sky overhead, complete with a fluffy cloud pendant. The loveseat pulls out into a twin bed for sleep overs.

Nestled in the pristine beauty of the north woods of Wisconsin is the natural landscape of majestic trees, clear spring fed lakes, fascinating wildlife and exhilarating outdoor recreational activities. It is inviting to many families, friends and couples throughout the year The lakes in particular provide for an enormous amount of fun and relaxation. For those so fortunate to have a property it is customary to have a boathouse to store your swimming or boating gear and equipment. Recently Parrett was selected to provide windows and doors for a new boathouse and replacement windows and doors for an existing home. The boathouse windows consisted of folding windows and doors allowing for opening the windows the complete 10 foot expanse. These same doors were backed by a full length horizontal pulled screen. The folding window system was set on the second level loft designed as an elevated viewing area of the lake. Mulled directly to the top of the folding window was a Napoleon shaped direct set. On the opposite side of the second level was a window system matching the shape of the lakeside window system. The upper mulled window was a duplicate of the window on the lake side however the window below consisted of four awning windows. Due to the awnings being elevated from the lower floor and not easily accessible the windows were set up with individual electronic motors for operation which can be operated by either a switch or a remote control. The system allows for operating all of the windows at once or individually. The windows were made out of solid mahogany to the interior and a high performance woodgrain aluminum clad to the exterior. The lower boathouse door is a four panel solid mahogany plank style folding door system with a horizontal pull screen. Greeting anyone entering the boathouse is a custom designed entry door which has a carved pattern to the exterior emulating an owl. The owl door was made out of solid white oak and bordered with a 10 inch wide flat casing with a 12 inch keystone and plinth blocks located on top. Parrett was proud to be part of this fun, picturesque and very functional project.

Harbor View is a modern-day interpretation of the shingled vacation houses of its seaside community. The gambrel roof, horizontal, ground-hugging emphasis, and feeling of simplicity, are all part of the character of the place. While fitting in with local traditions, Harbor View is meant for modern living. The kitchen is a central gathering spot, open to the main combined living/dining room and to the waterside porch. One easily moves between indoors and outdoors. The house is designed for an active family, a couple with three grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. It is zoned so that the whole family can be there together but retain privacy. Living, dining, kitchen, library, and porch occupy the center of the main floor. One-story wings on each side house two bedrooms and bathrooms apiece, and two more bedrooms and bathrooms and a study occupy the second floor of the central block. The house is mostly one room deep, allowing cross breezes and light from both sides. The porch, a third of which is screened, is a main dining and living space, with a stone fireplace offering a cozy place to gather on summer evenings. A barn with a loft provides storage for a car or boat off-season and serves as a big space for projects or parties in summer.

The client purchased a mature, small, NAPA Valley vineyard to be their home and for personal enjoyment. Once they began converting their new "hobby" grapes into wine, they soon realized they needed a place to "age" their labors and a place to then enjoy them. They decided to design such a place within the confines of their home where they could entertain family and friends. The structure was modified to allow storage of more than 200 individual bottles, cases, and magnum size bottles. A cask room was added as was a well-appointed tasting room. The storage area is separated from the tasting and social area by a tempered glass doors and windows. The space to be converted was a challenge. No surface was plumb or level, therefore, the remodel involved interior walls, new floors and ceilings. Until these issues were addressed, the beautiful cabinet work, and a complete temperature and humidity control system to store, maintain, and enjoy the wine could not be started. The floors had to be floated out and chases with faux finishes provided for HVAC and electrical. Lighting in the tasting room is provided by a series of recessed and puck lights. The bar/counter area is highlighted by a custom, Tiffany style chandelier. Enough space was left in front of the bar to accommodate two serving tables for food and snacks, with plenty of room to move about the space. Discreetly hidden behind the bar is a large capacity cooler that can chill several bottles at once. The bar is capped with eight lineal feet of Calcutta Gold Marble and sports a brass foot rail. The bar has grape panels between Acanthus Corbels and the bottle storage cabinet areas are a unique blend of Acanthus overlays under precisely cut and mitered grape design crown molding over and around a cleverly designed bottle storage system. Traffic flow is achieved through the multiple points of entry through any of three pairs of 6' custom double doors which, when weather permitting, can remain open while entertaining. The host and hostess can attend food and beverage service from behind and around the bar through a separate doorway. The temperature controlled cask storage area is large enough for the clients' current needs, and can accommodate a larger number of casks should the need arise. The floor and walls of the cask room are designed for easy maintenance.. Both rooms are delightfully decorated with earthen tone faux finishes on walls, ceilings and floors reminiscent of a nonspecific European wine making region. This effect is extended to the soffits in the tasting room. A unique wine racking system is easily stored, providing even greater ability to maintain and move about the storage area.
