Excessive storage closets along the back wall consumed valuable real estate that could be repurposed for more engaging uses. In essence, the basement was spacious but disjointed—functional for family use but falling short as an entertainment hub. It didn’t align with the sophistication of the rest of the home. Our clients envisioned a transformation: a fresh, organized space that would not only serve their family’s needs but also shine as an inviting arena for entertaining friends and hosting gatherings – especially sports-focused gatherings! Design Objectives: Reimagine the basement layout, creating distinct zones for varied activities. Expand the workout area to accommodate new equipment, including a Smith machine. To create a dining area with a strong scenic presence but at the same time free of excess, the choice was Cattelan Italia. Together with the client, we chose two of the Italian company's undisputed best sellers: the Skorpio table with crystal top and Brushed bronze foot and the Magda chairs in Lino faux leather. A perfect pair to add a touch of style to the entire open space.

To the manor born… or at least it will feel like it in this elegant yet easygoing French Country home designed by Visbeen Architects with a busy family who wants the best of the past and the present in mind. Drawn from both French and English traditional architecture, this two-story 5,463-square-foot home is a pleasing and timeless blend of two perennially popular styles. Driving up the circular driveway, the home’s front façade impresses with its distinctive details, including a covered porch, iron and stone accents, a roofline with multiple peaks, large windows and its central turret capping two bay windows. The back is no less eye-catching, with a series of large central windows on all three floors overlooking the backyard, two private balconies and both a covered second-floor screen porch and an open-air main-level patio perfect for al fresco entertaining. There’s magic on the inside too. The expansive 2,900-square-foot main level revolves around a welcoming two-story foyer with a grand curved staircase that leads into the rest of the luxurious yet not excessive floor plan. Highlights of the public spaces on the left include a spacious two-story light-filled living room with a wall of windows overlooking the backyard and a fireplace, an adjacent dining room perfect for entertaining with its own deck, and a open-plan kitchen with central island, convenient home management area and walk-in pantry. A nearby screened porch is the perfect place for enjoying outdoors meals bug-free. Private rooms are concentrated on the first-floor’s right side, with a secluded master suite that includes spa-like bath with his and her vanities and a large tub as well as a private balcony, large walk-in closet and secluded nearby study/office. Upstairs, another 1,100 square feet of living space is designed with family living in mind, including two bedrooms, each with private bath and large closet, and a convenient kids study with peaked ceiling overlooking the street. After staging, the master feels refreshed and a bit more luxurious. Most of the excess and dated furniture was removed, creating a sense of calm while at the same time updating the space. Clean white drapes replaced the dark blue drapes, making the room less blue. We used the existing bedding by flipping it over to the solid reverse side. To save money, the bedskirt was made from the drapes we removed.

These wonderful clients returned to us for their newest home remodel adventure. Their newly purchased custom built 1970s modern ranch sits in one of the loveliest neighborhoods south of the city but the current conditions of the home were out-dated and not so lovely. Upon entering the front door through the court you were greeted abruptly by a very boring staircase and an excessive number of doors. Just to the left of the double door entry was a large slider and on your right once inside the home was a soldier line up of doors. This made for an uneasy and uninviting entry that guests would quickly forget and our clients would often avoid. We also had our hands full in the kitchen. The existing space included many elements that felt out of place in a modern ranch including a rustic mountain scene backsplash, cherry cabinets with raised panel and detailed profile, and an island so massive you couldn’t pass a drink across the stone. Our design sought to address the functional pain points of the home and transform the overall aesthetic into something that felt like home for our clients. For the entry, we re-worked the front door configuration by switching from the double door to a large single door with side lights. The sliding door next to the main entry door was replaced with a large window to eliminate entry door confusion. In our re-work of the entry staircase, guesta are now greeted into the foyer which features the Coral Pendant by David Trubridge. Guests are drawn into the home by stunning views of the front range via the large floor-to-ceiling glass wall in the living room. To the left, the staircases leading down to the basement and up to the master bedroom received a massive aesthetic upgrade. The rebuilt 2nd-floor staircase has a center spine with wood rise and run appearing to float upwards towards the master suite. A slatted wall of wood separates the two staircases which brings more light into the basement stairwell. Black metal railings add a stunning contrast to the light wood. Other fabulous upgrades to this home included new wide plank flooring throughout the home, which offers both modernity and warmth. The once too-large kitchen island was downsized to create a functional focal point that is still accessible and intimate. The old dark and heavy kitchen cabinetry was replaced with sleek white cabinets, brightening up the space and elevating the aesthetic of the entire room. The kitchen countertops are marble look quartz with dramatic veining that offers an artistic feature behind the range and across all horizontal surfaces in the kitchen. As a final touch, cascading island pendants were installed which emphasize the gorgeous ceiling vault and provide warm feature lighting over the central point of the kitchen. This transformation reintroduces light and simplicity to this gorgeous home, and we are so happy that our clients can reap the benefits of this elegant and functional design for years to come.

Michigan to achieve Emerald Certification (the highest level possible) in the National Association of Home Builder’s (NAHB) National Green Building Certification Program. This home combines smart, sustainable design; advanced construction techniques; and integrated solar panels for renewable energy capture. The result… our clients received a Credit for net excess electrical production in July of 2014, the hottest July on record to date! The #LakesideLeisure Project was a comprehensive redesign of a lakefront property that transformed various challenges into stunning solutions. Initially, the property featured a small, high-maintenance cedar deck with minimal lake views, poorly placed stairs, limited flat yard space due to extensive tiered landscaping and excessive plantings, obstructed lake views, and privacy concerns from a neighboring home. The client’s vision was clear: they wanted a large, flat yard for family activities and hosting, enhanced outdoor living spaces for dining and lounging, increased privacy from neighbors, more shaded hangout areas, improved “curb appeal” from the lake, and reduced maintenance.

Louis G. Weiner Photography - My clients recently purchased this vacation home and quickly developed a design wish-list which included a full remodel of the master bathroom. This builder's-choice master bathroom might have been stylish and in when built in 1985, but 30 years later it has not stood the test of time. First, we opened up the room by removing the heavy soffits and the excessive corner cabinetry. We designed a more streamline, floating vanity with beautiful quartz countertops and a waterfall edge. We expanded the footprint of the shower and created a seamless beach entry by removing the shower dam. Then we choose to wrap the room and adjacent commode with white subway tile and a custom marble border. The most dramatic renovation was replacing the outdated jacuzzi tub with an elegant free-standing soaking tub. This was a must on the wish-list for the clients - not for the wife as you might expect - but for the husband. He is a motorcycle enthusiast and after long trips on his bike, he likes to take a soak. Inspired to use art that tells a personal story about the clients, I recommended creating a photo canvas from a treasured picture of the husband standing with his motorcycle helmet on a beautiful desert road. This final touch connects my clients to their space and makes them smile every time they see it.

This Master Bath was remodeled after the new owner discovered excessive termite damage that required the entire bathroom, including the sub-framing and exterior walls, to be demolished. The bathroom was re-arranged to not include a tub/shower. This photo shows the completed work just before the glass partition for the walk-in shower was installed.

Metal roofs are becoming more available and affordable for residential installations, but they are not all created equal. Our standing seam sheet-metal roofing system is assembled using a hidden fastener clip system installation method, which allows for an expansion and contraction of the roofing panels with the temperature fluctuation but more importantly, there are no exposed fasteners that can eventually fail. This results in increased longevity of the installation of the roofing system. For this project we fabricated our panels on-site and to exact dimensions. This method reduces excessive waste of material and allows for adjustments to achieve a high-end custom look and will retain the aesthetic appeal of your home well into the future.
