Serving as a weekend getaway dwelling, these clients opted for a comfortable contemporary aesthetic. “Citified with a bit of glamour” was our mantra. To contrast the linear aspects of the great room and to provide both internal and external views, a large irregularly-shaped sectional was employed. It was paired with two iconic Mario Bellini lounge chairs that provide an elegant air to the space, all anchored by a 20’ round wool rug. A hint of European sensibility is revealed with the use of bespoke lighting. Multi-globe ceiling fixtures crown the great room, while individual pendants adorn the split dining table. The custom dining table top became a true piece of art: a laser-cut brass panel with a map of the client’s Northern California hometown speaks to his passion for maps and adds dimension and interest to this table. The entryway features a bronze, stainless steel, and wood console against a backdrop of precious stone. A bold bronze sculpture in the great room draws the eye to the glass and beyond. The walls and ceilings were given a faux finish of metallic woven, grass-cloth type texture, bringing an element of glamour and drama. In the master bedroom an art piece was commissioned to hang above the bed, blending a lifetime of poems, photographs, and song lyrics into a visual representation of a classic love story. Adjacent to this art piece is a full-size print of the client’s own photography work, backlit and custom-framed to add personality to a room full of exquisite art. The seating in the front yard of the house in Al Qatif, Saudi Arabia, is accessible from the external gate and the ground floor main entrance, which makes it easily approachable. The pathway leading to the seating area is bordered with bushes and different plants and providing a lovely view for both the indoors and the outdoors, by CAS.

Designed for a bachelor, this 1000 square foot house sits comfortably on a 70' x 100' lot. A questionable soil condition suggested that we make a very light house. Hence an all wood frame structure including a raised frame floor, which was highly unusual in South Florida. All walls, inside and out, are cedar shingles, and ceilings are 1/4" Fir plywood. The floor plan utilizes enclosing forms with each external form enclosing an internal function. Inside ceilings express outside as floating planes. The floor framing also expresses outwardly. Spaces between the shingled forms and roof planes are treated as voids with no visible frames to reveal "enclosure". All furniture was built-in as an integral part of the whole. The artfully designed Boise Passive House is tucked in a mature neighborhood, surrounded by 1930’s bungalows. The architect made sure to insert the modern 2,000 sqft. home with intention and a nod to the charm of the adjacent homes. Its classic profile gleams from days of old while bringing simplicity and design clarity to the façade. The 3 bed/2.5 bath home is situated on 3 levels, taking full advantage of the otherwise limited lot. Guests are welcomed into the home through a full-lite entry door, providing natural daylighting to the entry and front of the home. The modest living space persists in expanding its borders through large windows and sliding doors throughout the family home. Intelligent planning, thermally-broken aluminum windows, well-sized overhangs, and Selt external window shades work in tandem to keep the home’s interior temps and systems manageable and within the scope of the stringent PHIUS standards.

This secluded single-family home in Great Falls, had a beautiful backyard setting. The owners recently built a gorgeous pool and surround deck on the right side of the house in their backyard. They inherited a rundown deck off of the kitchen patio doors. Our team designed a two-story outdoor living addition which offers the family everything that they can hope for in outdoor living. Our massive plan required excavation to make the lower level patio both attractive and functional for all kinds of outdoor activity. We excavated down two feet to create a nine-foot high patio, cut concrete walls to add French doors from to dark and unused side of the basement bringing improved use for the basement. The entire back wall was covered with matching brick veneer to entire front and side elevations. The roof of this patio was covered with EPDM roofing rolls to make the lower patio stay dry and protected. Steps away from pool sun deck, this flagstone covered patio turned into a prime space for entertainment. The built-in middle bar equipped with under counter beverage fridge and beer tab to make gatherings more exciting. The side steps built in with matching solid stone threads offered access to driveway and the second floor covered porch. The second floor is finished with porcelain floor tiles, stain grade ceiling panels, wrought iron rails, decorative recessed panel columns, hanging gorgeous ceiling fans steps away from the kitchen. Just outside of this covered porch, there is a deck with the same tile floor facing the pool area offering a breath taking view. Carefully selection of soft toned wood looking plank porcelain tiles compliment the knotty soft grey stain ceiling panels making this project one that shines even on rainy days. The custom-made spiral rod iron staircase offers an elegant second set of steps so that the upper level deck can reach into backyard and pool deck.
