We wanted the bedroom to feel like a calm oasis, so we kept the colors cool and airy, with some unexpected pops of bold color! We layered patterns and textures create an inviting space and our LABLstudio "Racy Lacy" removable wallpaper was the perfect wall covering. Our client had a lot of cool jewelry, so we chose to display it on the animal horns for an interesting touch. We chose cropped curtains to keep the space feeling light and airy. This formerly dark kitchen that used to provide a cramped feeling to everyone who set in there got a massive transformation with a fresh coat of paint. Using professionals to meet the quality you are aiming to achieve is a MUST in those type of projects.

I was brought in to give a serious makeover to a kitchen that had seen... a lot. Tucked inside a turn-of-the-century building full of charm (and quirks), the space came with its fair share of headaches—uneven floors and walls, a ridiculously oversized radiator in the worst possible spot, and a bulky chase cutting through one corner like it owned the place. And that was just the welcome party. The transformation created a space that you want to just relax and enjoy that gourmet cooking experience!

This Somerville, MA bedroom-to-primary-bathroom conversion showcases a freestanding soaking tub beneath a large arched window, paired with soft green stacked tile wainscoting and matte black tub fixtures. The space includes a frameless glass walk-in shower, white marble-look floor tile, recessed lighting, a natural wood ceiling beam, and warm spa-inspired details for a bright, relaxing primary bathroom retreat.

Klopf Architecture and Outer space Landscape Architects designed a new warm, modern, open, indoor-outdoor home in Los Altos, California. Inspired by mid-century modern homes but looking for something completely new and custom, the owners, a couple with two children, bought an older ranch style home with the intention of replacing it. Created on a grid, the house is designed to be at rest with differentiated spaces for activities; living, playing, cooking, dining and a piano space. The low-sloping gable roof over the great room brings a grand feeling to the space. The clerestory windows at the high sloping roof make the grand space light and airy. Upon entering the house, an open atrium entry in the middle of the house provides light and nature to the great room. The Heath tile wall at the back of the atrium blocks direct view of the rear yard from the entry door for privacy. The bedrooms, bathrooms, play room and the sitting room are under flat wing-like roofs that balance on either side of the low sloping gable roof of the main space. Large sliding glass panels and pocketing glass doors foster openness to the front and back yards. In the front there is a fenced-in play space connected to the play room, creating an indoor-outdoor play space that could change in use over the years. The play room can also be closed off from the great room with a large pocketing door. In the rear, everything opens up to a deck overlooking a pool where the family can come together outdoors. Wood siding travels from exterior to interior, accentuating the indoor-outdoor nature of the house. Where the exterior siding doesn’t come inside, a palette of white oak floors, white walls, walnut cabinetry, and dark window frames ties all the spaces together to create a uniform feeling and flow throughout the house. The custom cabinetry matches the minimal joinery of the rest of the house, a trim-less, minimal appearance. Wood siding was mitered in the corners, including where siding meets the interior drywall. Wall materials were held up off the floor with a minimal reveal. This tight detailing gives a sense of cleanliness to the house. The garage door of the house is completely flush and of the same material as the garage wall, de-emphasizing the garage door and making the street presentation of the house kinder to the neighborhood. The house is akin to a custom, modern-day Eichler home in many ways. Inspired by mid-century modern homes with today’s materials, approaches, standards, and technologies. The goals were to create an indoor-outdoor home that was energy-efficient, light and flexible for young children to grow. The family has lived across the country on a medical school journey, and this is the first home they owned. They love to be active outdoors so coming to Minnesota from their home in California, they wanted to better utilize their back yard and limited entertainment space. They wanted the design to incorporate a patio, firepit, bistro lights and bar area. The homeowners love the use of fun tiles and patterns inside and they were curious if this could be extended to their exterior space. They also loved the cozy feeling of being indoors while spending time outside.

This client’s busy lifestyle includes a pool, preteens and pets which called for a durable and waterproof flooring to run not only through the kitchen but through the entire lower level of their home. We found the perfect flooring product which spurred the new kitchen design. Our clients wanted their builder basic kitchen to have a fresh and updated feel. We started by lowering the bar to create a more open feel to the living room. We transformed their unused desk area into a function wine bar. We removed the original island and designed a larger custom island to incorporate a unique pet feeding area as well as a drawer microwave. New appliances were added throughout as well as painted cabinets, granite countertops and glass subway tile as the backsplash. Extensive lighting upgrades included numerous overhead can lights, pendants over the bar and Adorne under cabinet lighting and electrical system (allows for an uninterrupted backsplash). Kitchen - 1950s dark wood floor and brown floor kitchen idea in Wilmington with an undermount sink, flat-panel cabinets, quartz countertops, green backsplash, stainless steel appliances, a peninsula and white countertops

This 1930's Barrington Hills farmhouse was in need of some TLC when it was purchased by this southern family of five who planned to make it their new home. The renovation taken on by Advance Design Studio's designer Scott Christensen and master carpenter Justin Davis included a custom porch, custom built in cabinetry in the living room and children's bedrooms, 2 children's on-suite baths, a guest powder room, a fabulous new master bath with custom closet and makeup area, a new upstairs laundry room, a workout basement, a mud room, new flooring and custom wainscot stairs with planked walls and ceilings throughout the home. The home's original mechanicals were in dire need of updating, so HVAC, plumbing and electrical were all replaced with newer materials and equipment. A dramatic change to the exterior took place with the addition of a quaint standing seam metal roofed farmhouse porch perfect for sipping lemonade on a lazy hot summer day. In addition to the changes to the home, a guest house on the property underwent a major transformation as well. Newly outfitted with updated gas and electric, a new stacking washer/dryer space was created along with an updated bath complete with a glass enclosed shower, something the bath did not previously have. A beautiful kitchenette with ample cabinetry space, refrigeration and a sink was transformed as well to provide all the comforts of home for guests visiting at the classic cottage retreat. The biggest design challenge was to keep in line with the charm the old home possessed, all the while giving the family all the convenience and efficiency of modern functioning amenities. One of the most interesting uses of material was the porcelain "wood-looking" tile used in all the baths and most of the home's common areas. All the efficiency of porcelain tile, with the nostalgic look and feel of worn and weathered hardwood floors. The home’s casual entry has an 8" rustic antique barn wood look porcelain tile in a rich brown to create a warm and welcoming first impression. Painted distressed cabinetry in muted shades of gray/green was used in the powder room to bring out the rustic feel of the space which was accentuated with wood planked walls and ceilings. Fresh white painted shaker cabinetry was used throughout the rest of the rooms, accentuated by bright chrome fixtures and muted pastel tones to create a calm and relaxing feeling throughout the home. Custom cabinetry was designed and built by Advance Design specifically for a large 70” TV in the living room, for each of the children’s bedroom’s built in storage, custom closets, and book shelves, and for a mudroom fit with custom niches for each family member by name. The ample master bath was fitted with double vanity areas in white. A generous shower with a bench features classic white subway tiles and light blue/green glass accents, as well as a large free standing soaking tub nestled under a window with double sconces to dim while relaxing in a luxurious bath. A custom classic white bookcase for plush towels greets you as you enter the sanctuary bath.

This Award-winning kitchen proves vintage doesn't have to look old and tired. This previously dark kitchen was updated with white, gold, and wood in the historic district of Monte Vista. The challenge is making a new kitchen look and feel like it belongs in a charming older home. The highlight and starting point is the original hex tile flooring in white and gold. It was in excellent condition and merely needed a good cleaning. The addition of white calacatta marble, white subway tile, walnut wood counters, brass and gold accents keep the charm intact. Cabinet panels mimic original door panels found in other areas of the home. Custom coffee storage is a modern bonus! 30" Sub-Zero Refrig, Rohl sink.
