Small spaces can provide big challenges. These homeowners wanted to include a lot in their tiny backyard! There were also numerous city restrictions to comply with, and elevations to contend with. The design includes several seating areas, a fire feature that can be seen from the home's front entry, a water wall, and retractable screens. This was a "design only" project. Installation was coordinated by the homeowner and completed by others. Photos copyright Cascade Outdoor Design, LLC

Looking for a nice clean crown molding, but what something different? These homeowners did just that with a simple clean flat molding applied to the wall and ceiling to create this look.

This farmhouse designed by our interior design studio showcases custom, traditional style with modern accents. The laundry room was given an interesting interplay of patterns and texture with a grey mosaic tile backsplash and printed tiled flooring. The dark cabinetry provides adequate storage and style. All the bathrooms are bathed in light palettes with hints of coastal color, while the mudroom features a grey and wood palette with practical built-in cabinets and cubbies. The kitchen is all about sleek elegance with a light palette and oversized pendants with metal accents.

Bathroom - contemporary bathroom idea in Kansas City with a vessel sink, flat-panel cabinets, medium tone wood cabinets, gray walls and gray countertops

Photo: Adrienne DeRosa © 2015 Houzz After finding the set of antique doors at auction, Carpenter and Weiss removed several layers of paint, revealing the wood's natural characteristics. They were then joined to form a single panel that when opened offer a view of the master suite's sitting area. The interplay of opposites is an everpresent quality running through this couple's home, and the bedroom door is no exception. Its rough-hewn quality is offset by the surrounding walls and cabinetry, and black hardware. Although the door serves as a backdrop for art when opened, it is practically a piece of art itself.

The peaked main wall, painted in a dark gray lends understated drama to a decidedly masculine room, and acts as a beautiful backdrop for a Robert Kingston painting. Custom designed, extra long sofa flanked by period-perfect sconces, comfortable swivel chair, and leather bench. A vintage game table, also gets plenty of use. Surrounding walls, painted in lighter gray complement the custom woven tan, indigo and rust-colored Navajo rug.
